lack of nade hopping.

I know we can clamber n whatnot now, but I really want a bit more nade physics. In halo 3 if a spot was slightly too high, you’d sacrifice a frag nade for the extra boost.
I tried it in Infinite, and the nades barely give you any knockback. I would love to see a return of this classic movement mechanic, thank u <3

The new sprint crouch fall slide mechanic kind of makes this not need in my opinion.

Not sure how I feel about making myself almost dead and wasting a grenade to do what my A button could do instead.

That’s not very practical. It was a fun mechanic under Bungie, but 343 has found it’s compensation for that with the Grapple Shot and MANY access point throughout the maps we were able to play. There was no part of the map, within the “arena”, that players couldn’t get to. It a matter knowing where to go. We really gotta move forward from the old games, if you want that, you have MCC.

it’s not “needed” but I love the option, someone could just use a nade to avoid using a small platform, or just for the little boost. It’s not a 100% necessary mechanic, but it was fun. Especially when jumping off vehicles, and the explosions would propel you more.
It’s one of those things halo vets will try, and be kinda sad it doesn’t exist. And it’s balanced. A little height, but you lose shields in the process.
Even just when someone nades you, if you jumped, and ran, you would gain some distance because of the blast they created. It works damn well in the sandbox environment, and I would love to see it return.

To be clear, it’s not a large boost, but it was just enough to be fun, and paired with clamber, I could see interesting shortcuts happening.

Someone out there did manage to do it. Its not quite the grenade of the before times, but hey, its still possible and helpful.

A legendary and practical application of the nade jump is Halo 3 Citadel team slayer. You run to Overshield, nade yourself as you’re picking it up, take no damage because of invincibility frames and you land on Rockets before the other team with full Overshield so no chance of dying in the process.

Outside of that, there is usually no reason to practically use it in matchmaking. Was fun for campaign, necessary to get some hidden skulls and also great for trick jumps so overall slightly sad to see it go.

Being a Classic player I understand where you are coming from however I just think it might add too much to the movement at this point. We have the repulser for that remember.

this is what makes me love it!!! we cant rocket jump in this game, and I wouldn’t want a massive explosive “rocket jump”, but it was an interesting physics mechanic that I feel doesn’t take away from gameplay but would add more fun to the sandbox.
ANY extra physics details make me DANG HAPPY. I love how we can just run over tables and chairs and they just get crushed by my beefy spartan legs.

I wish grenades pushed guns around a little**more too. Launching a sniper off the ground to a teammate using a nade would be an interesting strat if you can’t get your hands on the hook, but would be a little random on the direction it launches.
The little things breathe life into static seeming sandboxes, and make it feel much more immersive and crazy. I for one love it.

And the repulsor is just a reflective shield, what u on abt?

ps) kinda sad i couldn’t grapple a fusion coil n chuck it at spartans in the flight

You can’t use clamber to boost a normal jump. Every item in Halo used to be bound to the physics engine. It allowed for all kinds of crazy problem solving. There is no reason clamber has to replace that. They can both be in the game.
Now if a ledge is out of reach I can’t even grenade boost to clamber on top of it, so no, clamber does not replace grenade jumping or serve the same purpose.
Gravity hammer also no longer effects player gravity. It’s just a long ranged punch now.
The “equipment replaces that” argument also holds no water. Why didn’t they get rid of it in Halo 3? Surely the portable grav lift filled that function, therefore grenade jumping is no longer fun or interesting.

I’m telling you now that the ledge, sprint, slide, crouch and then repulser will make grenade hoping feeling antique. I loved hopping the old way however being able to do so with equipment will make it more unique.

I get these kind of arguments, but those items are pickups. Grenades are an entirely separate part of the sandbox and grenade jumping was a fun tool for movement. I think in general, some things need to impart more force on other objects. I wanna see a clip of someone getting a splatter with a wet floor sign using the gravity hammer.

There are places where a good grenade jump and crouch would stop you from needing to clamber. I really like that in most cases clamber isn’t needed to make jumps, but for those few areas where clamber is required, I wouldn’t mind seeing grenade jumping being an option as well. These maps are all pretty vertical, and if you want to use a nade to get just a tad higher and reach some other areas, why not? At least that comes at a cost, as opposed to the curb slide which sends you flying across maps(though that might get patched) or the drop slide.

The curb slide makes you hella vulnerable in the process though. They intentionally know that slide is in the game. In no world did the eSport team they have not exploit that right away.

Consistency in the games physics cannot feel antique. If the physics acted the way they should, I would be able to combine clamber, equipment, and grenades to pull off new tricks we’ve never seen before. As it stands, I am being told that “you can’t execute that fun idea you had because somehow physics and ledge grabs cannot coexist for literally no reason”.
In the past players have been able to use their smarts to problem solve. Even if they didn’t have the equipment they would normally need to make a jump. How in the world is removing depth a good thing? With grenade jumping back clamber immediately becomes more interesting. Without it there are simply less possible gameplay scenarios.

So then what’s the problem with grenade jumping? That leaves you the most vulnerable out of anything else in the game, in many cases your shield is lowered, or in the OS’s case, its burned to make the jump.

This is my logic too. It’s a separate part of the sandbox. Everything should feel like it has a REAL effect, specific to what item it is. A splatter for launching a prop into a spartan would be STUPID FUNNY,AND I WOULDNT EVEN BE MAD IF IT HAPPENED TO ME! You took the words right out of my mouth man. People need to realize this is all gonna be in bigteam battle and modes other than 4v4. In a big map enviroment, you want lots of interesting little things to play with.

This isn’t about making some overpowered boost jump, this is just a little tweak of physics that makes nades feel like they actually explode, and lets people gain a tiny bit extra velocity.
ps) I really miss bubble shields… throwing a spike grenade in a bubble shield, and watching enemies get spikes rebounded all over them… priceless.
