Lack of maps in MM playlists

I don’t know if this is just me or what so I want some feedback because maybe I’m out of line, but I don’t feel that I am.

As the title says, I feel like there is a complete lack of multiplayer maps in MM. No, I don’t play infinity anything anymore so I’m not sure how many maps are used in their playlists. My favorites now are big team skirmish and Legendary Slayer (LS). I notice the lack of maps especially in LS where you have Haven, Abandoned, Solace, Adrift, and Shutout I believe. And if you get suuuuuper lucky you might get the option of playing on either Skyline, Monolith and one other DLC map every once in a blue moon.

So basically, you play on Haven and Shutout all the time because the other maps are pretty much sub-par. I don’t understand how a “AAA” game can have such poor map selection at this stage of its life especially when it has a map editor built into the game to create new maps or remakes.

All in all I don’t understand why there aren’t a bunch of maps from Halo, H2, and H3 that aren’t thrown into MM. Does anyone else feel like this or is this rant unjustified?

I blame Certain Affinity. They made a few maps for Halo 2 and Halo: Reach, and it’s my understanding that they made all of Halo 4’s maps (I could be wrong). Very, very few of their maps I’ve liked. Even the ones I do like, I don’t like very much. There really aren’t very many good maps in Halo 4, even including DLC, which is why we only see a few in matchmaking.

I hope 343i doesn’t let CA make the maps for Halo Xbox One.

Halo 4 needs more forge maps in all playlists. Team throwdown is pretty much the only playlist with a decent amount of forge maps.

Not a solid idea, if anybody is playing split-screen, they’ll be DOOMED to horrible lag, jumpy game-play, bad frame-rate, and insta-ragequit.

Part of it is the voting system. I would much rather just get put into a game and go. Voting wastes time and leads to the same 2 or 3 maps over and over again.

Oh and Certain Affinity needs to take a hike. I can’t stand their maps with the stupid lighting that gives 1 side an advantage along with the dust and haze. Sure it looks cool but it’s terrible for gameplay. I miss Halo 2 maps.

Yup, they’re all “Style over substance”.

I remember in the bt skirmish feedback forum they said that overtime they will add more gametypes and maps, but its been a while so we should be seeing some new maps and possibly extraction soon.

I completely agree with you OP on this. I can only play for maybe an hour or less before I’m completely bored. I’ve switched over to LS but like you said, the main maps that are played are Haven and Shutout. Adrift or Solace every now and then or Abandon. I personally feel that’s one of the major factors why the population dropped off in this game. The maps are just not very good compared to the predecessors (Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3).

There are plenty of good community forge map remakes of these old maps, and I downloaded quite a few just to play in customs. Really customs is the only way I have any fun with the game at this point. All of my friends stopped playing before or right after the TU in June, so if I do play, I’m left to play solo, which is not very fun. Every couple of months, we do get together for old fashion LAN party customs, and we just play forge maps.

I have yet to play Monolith, Skyline, or Landfall on LS. I haven’t played LS a ton, I’m only at CSR 12 in that playlist, but you’d think by that point I would have played one of the DLC maps. For this reason, I dont see any reason to purchase the DLC in August because frankly the maps will never show up in rotation, so what’s the point. I was curious last night so I played some Action Sack because that is actually one playlist where it lists a ton of maps that can possibly show up in rotation. Action Sack, CTF, and IS are the three gametypes that list the most possible maps in rotation. Guess which ones I ended up playing? Played for an hour and I think I played 6 games and only played 4 maps maybe.

Really? As far as I was concerned they did abit of Forge and Majestic + Castle (and now, the Bulls eye Map-pack).

> Certain Affinity’s work on the Halo franchise spreads far beyond Halo 4 though. In fact, dating all the way back to Halo 2, the studio has created just a little less than 30-or so maps for the franchise.

The Halo 2 Blastacular map pack had 2 maps and the Halo: Reach Defiant map pack had 3 maps, so we could say that CA has created just a little less than 25 or so maps for Halo 4. Including the first 3 map packs and Forge Island (but not including the Bullseye map pack), Halo 4 currently has 23 maps. So we can safely assume that CA has created at least almost all of Halo 4’s maps.

I have to agree the maps look good in this game, but they are incredibly terrible like you said “Style over substance”. I would rather play on forge remakes of classics with the same gray walls everywhere any day because I don’t play to look at the pretty backgrounds, although it’s a nice bonus. I stay for the gameplay, and without proper maps…the gameplay is terrible.

Don’t expect to play on them much at all because I probably have played them twice in this playlist. For that reason I will also not buy more DLC maps because I don’t get to play on the ones I already bought. Why would I pay for more maps so I can’t play?!?!

What stops them from implementing community made forge maps into rotation? Excuse my ignorance…is it really that hard?
