So one thing that really bugged me about the fall of reach. How the orbital defense generators fell from GROUND fighting… With a population of over 700 million and god knows how many millions are trained soldiers, easily the most important military structors on reach should have 1 million + soliders defending it. Even as cannon fodder it doenst matter, everyone on the planet should realize they are getting glassed regardless if they lose.
Unfortunately, Team Beta was unable to stop the Covenant, who attacked in swarms of thousands. The Orbital Defense Generators were compromised, and the Covenant (after eliminating the powerless, immobile ODPs in geosynchronous orbit around the planet) began the glassing of Reach.
That is unacceptable and the generals shoudl have been shot imo. Millions of soldiers went to waste to die in the glassing instead of being on the front lines.
Dont give me supply issues either.
While Earth was rightly seen as the UNSC’s commercial, political, and cultural center; Reach was undeniably the hub of its military power.
In 500 years the military hub planet should EASILY be able to supply millions upon millions upon millions of soliders no questions asked. I understand that with air superiority ground troops are worthless BUT so many MAC cannons were destroyed from the ground and that is just plan idiotic.
Like I said tens of millions of reservers should have been ready to fight within a few hours if the entire damn planet is the military hub…
> OP, I suggest that you do what I’ve already done. Disregard Reach as a whole. The Fall of Reach story was much much much better without it.
I know what you mean, but still even that link the other guy posted showed NEARLY 400 MILLION in manpower. You could use those men as a fricken wall and it would have taken the covanent longer to move all the bodys and get to the generators…

I think if they did that the covenant would laugh, Send a cruiser and just kill everyone at once

but see if that was true the cruiser would have destroyed the generators instead of sending ground troops! so it shows they had adaquate AA defense to stop the Covanent from doing so, it was there ground troops that failed

You know the book makes Reach look pathetic right? The planet fell in less than two hours according to the book whereas the game says they held off for weeks. Besides that the game and book fit together just fine and I’m tired of people saying otherwise.

Yes, because in WWII we totally bombed Germany into submission from the air without sending in a single troop /sarcasm.
Troops will always be needed to finish a fight. It doesn’t matter how awesome your air power is. Bombardment can kill millions and then troops are sent in to pick off the stragglers.
