If there is already a topic on this, i apologize but…
As i understand it, someone somewhere in 343i noted that there would be no playable elites in MM. Does that imply that there will also be no Invasion gametype included in MM? I understand that it was a “Reach” gametype by definition, but it is still quite fun and has a large enough following to be included in this next game. I would be very discouraged to lose Inv…
Oh noes. No invasion. Honestly invasion was in my opinion, horrible. You got to play on like 2 or 3 maps and it was the same game every time. I don’t blame 343i for scrapping it.
I am seriously disappointed too, But I mostly played invasion for the added story, which we’re getting now in Spartan ops, so there is a bit of a tradeoff, and frankly, Spartan ops sounds ridiculously awesome.
343 could always make another Invasion-style (“War Game”?) gametype with multiple objective phases in one game.
Killzone 3 has something Invasion. During the course of a match, different (random) objectives pop up throughout, varying from killing a V.I.P., destroying/ protecting an objective, or holding a propaganda radio. There’s an offensive team and defensive team.
The basic concept of Invasion doesn’t restrict it to Spartans vs. Elites.
I agree. You and Able always have such strategy behind your maps and gameplay, and it’s always great fun playing with you guys and learning the techniques behind a true game of invasion. The general player population doesn’t seem to understand the teamwork that goes into an actual game. It has so much more potential than people give it credit for.
It would be a huge loss for the community if it was taken out. Unfortunately, I don’t have very high hopes. Hopefully there will be something similar that requires an equal or greater amount of teamwork.
> The basic concept of Invasion doesn’t restrict it to Spartans vs. Elites.
Well actually, it kind of does…
Maybe not in the specific case of SvE, but in the sense that you put a Team of spartans versus some team of [insert species].
Spartan v spartan invasion is just a meaningpess bro-jective game… If i want that i can go to btb. There is no story, no motivation, and it doesnt stand up to the definition of Invasion.
Spartan Ops does sound like a worthy replacement, but i will miss the 6v6 combat… If nothing else, i hope we are still allowed to forge a proper invasion game. Im not asking for another FW, but a template big enough to house a proper inv game.
> Yes, it would be completely un-logical for Spartans to fight each other in an invasion gametype. sarcasm
remove the sarcasm b/c thats actually quite accurate…
The unique part about invasion(as bungie intended) was that it attempted to bridge the gap between Story and Multiplayer in a semi-logical manner. Why on earth(or any other planet) would spartans be fighting other spartans?? Is one team a group of traitors sarcasm?? No, spartans are highly trained military personel, hand chosen because of their mental and physical attributes. They would, however, battle it out with those blargs for control of a data core!
Why do we put the generators in front of the shields, idk… But it makes frlor an awesome cross-species battoe!

I think you are forgetting the part of Halo 4 multi-player where all the combat is training exercises and not real. “Real” war in many cases involves more than just running around shooting each other in the face. You would need to capture critical locations and data and whatnot. So the Spartans would need to be prepared for that, no? SvS Invasion makes perfect sense.

When I first got Reach, all I played was invasion for a week. Then I started to play Team Slayer.
But I would miss invasion but maybe 343i has a plan to include a similar gametype.

What you just described is simply a bro-jective game, NOT an invasion game. As i stated earlier, invasion incorporates some backstory to the multiplayer experience, more so than just a theme to the map. There is a logical reason for capturing each objective past just getting another point on the scoreboard.
T1: you need to deactivate some outer perimeter shield or defense mechanism to gain access to the main compound.
T2: shut down the security measures for the core structure, or blow the doors up!
T3: bring the core to a predetermined extraction zone where a pelican/phamtom waits.
The individual tiers go into far more complex detail, but i have no interest in explaining that here… The point is invasion adds another element to the game, story. The orignal battpe between humans and covenant. SvS just doesnt fit the script…
As for the fact that MM is a “simulation”:
When our military runs battle simulations, do you think they consider everyone to be US military? No each enemy is analyzed with the traits and arsenals provided from very reliable intel. It would only make sense that a futuristic military simulation program was capable of applying the characteristics of some non-human species. Moreover, it would make logical sense that the military runs battle simulations to the greatest degree of accuracy as possible…
Keep in mind i am only considering Invasion. Other competitve gametypes do not incorporate the story to this level, therefore i am not suggesting these gametypes fall under the same requisite…
It was neat idea (one i liked) but it didn’t become a hit like Bungie wanted it too. It’s never been a dead playlist like lolArena or Squad DLC but 343 felt that it just wasn’t going to work for Halo 4.
It wasn’t popular enough in simple terms and it’s not coming back (so far).
