I really think the lack of covenant/promethean weapons will hurt halo 5 in the long run. At this point we only know how Unsc weapons play with this whole smart scope thing. Is anyone else concerned by this?
We have seen the Light Rifle in teaser gameplay videos and what we’re are playing isn’t meant entirely to balance the sandbox. We’re getting a core weapon experience, seeing how it’s balanced to the core, BUT most importantly we’re stress testing the engine code, servers and gamemodes.
And… Smart Scope applies to all “race” types. We don’t need to know how the Carbine or Plasma Rifle will work with Smart Scope before we go Gold, we have the SMG and AR to balance in their specific roles and then need to see where the PR and Suppressor are going to fit after the (human) weapon balances are approximately set in non-fired clay.
Would it be nice?? Sure. Is there a need or conspirator??? Of course not. There’s no need to extend our testing reach before we find ourselves comfortable with our core.
No one really uses the other weapons in multiplayer…also Halo 4 added way to many weapons to the game.

It’s not that there were too many, it was just that they were all basically the same.
Promethean weapons I’m not sure… They should be mostly finished.
However, the reason Covenant weapons aren’t in the game yet is actually quite simple… Either they didn’t finish them yet, or they realized that most of them aren’t viable whatsoever anymore.
There’s no way the plasma pistol, needler, storm rifle, or even the concussion rifle, are going to hit anyone consistently now. The only hit-scan Covenant weapons right now; the Carbine and the Beam Rifle, are the only ones that could possibly be viable in Halo 5, because of Sprint and Thruster Packs…
Theyre trying to balance the human weapons. Once thats green its easy to balance the covie and promethean weapons. Its much easier to balance against something stable than trying to do everything at once. Covie weapons just have to balance against 2 weapons.
Wonder how the promethean weapons will be this time around. Hope they arent the reskinned unsc weapons they were in 4. They can literally do anything to them.
Yeah. To me I won’t feel bad if the Covie sandbox in Halo 5 is just:
- Plasma Pistol
- Needler
- Carbine (that should be the reskinned H5 Beta DMR, because as of now the LR has made the DMR redundant, and since the UNSC has already one precision rifle, we don’t need too many. One per race would do.)
- Energy Sword
- Beam Rifle (that should be repurposed to not just be a Sniper that has a Halo: CE/Halo 2-ROF).
- Some new heavy weapon that isn’t a Fuel Rod Gun again. Perhaps a Fuel Rod-Spartan Laser hybrid like the fuel rod cannon the Hunters used in Halo 2 and Halo 3, where one has to also charge the weapon up first?
As for vehicles, Ghost, Banshee, Wraith and Phantoms are enough.
Yeah I am cool if it’s just that for the Covie sandbox; they ought to place more emphasis on the Forerunner one primarily for a fresher feel to the Halo franchise, then UNSC second, and Covie third.
