Aim assist doesn’t work. Aim acceleration can’t be turned off. Put those together and you’re randomly overshooting targets because your controller’s sensitivity randomly got increased two fold. Doesn’t matter what Look Settings you use to minimize acceleration, it stays and there’s no way to get rid of it.
So many people have been complaining about the controller vs keyboard thing so they just deleted controllers as a viable option.
The aim assist is pretty strong (at least on controller on PC) from what I can tell. I think the poor aiming feeling comes from a few factors.
1.) Strafe speed is pretty quick with no slow down when switching direction making it hard to read movement. This is a big advantage for K&M players since they can quickly spam ADADAD. (As much as I wish this would be changed to be more like older halos, I have little hope it will since it’s “more responsive” )
2.) The lack of Red Reticle absolutely ruins any chance of actually aiming on a PC with controller. To explain, RR is for more than just knowing when a target is in an effective range. It’s also an indication of when Aim Assist actually kicks in.
So ultimately, you can be aiming at someone (out of range) and have no aim assist so your cursor is moving entirely based on your input. But the second they get in range, your aiming goes from raw input to Input+aim assist which is why it feels like your cursor is fighting against you.
You get used to your raw movements just to abruptly switch to having aim assist without any indication to adjust HOW you’re aiming and it’s difficult to smoothly make that transition on the fly in the middle of a gunfight.
P. S. Player Collision, Friendly Fire, Progression, and the radar need to be fixed.
Nah, I use the modern advanced aim settings in MCC, Fortnite, and I even just set them up on Apex last night. Took me only a few minutes to make them feel comfortable in those games, all I had to do on Apex was set deadzones to zero and was good to go on that. Spent hours adjusting the settings on Infinite and never found settings I liked, even just looking around feels off compared to other games. I think there’s something wrong with aiming in Infinite in general, it flat out feels clunky.
If it was only controller vs controller I would not complain.
I strongly disagree. I want playing with a controller to feel great and be fun. Balancing with MnK is a secondary concern that isn’t really a concern of mine since there are dedicated playlists. Halo was built for controller and Infinite has made it much less fun to play, regardless of controller vs controller or controller vs MnK.
The bullet magnetism is Halo 5 is turned way up compared to even other Halo games. Easiest example to see is with the sniper, there are times where your reticle is not on target but the bullet still hits them. You can look up videos comparing it. I just think people might need to use a different control scheme like the one I mentioned. I also think the aim acceleration is the biggest problem for people that they may not know about because I know it throws me off big time and if someone expects a linear response as most older FPS games used then that will cause big problems.
I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking this. The aiming just feels weird to me, I played both flights before this and it seems to have gotten significantly worse somehow,.
Because it’s painfully obvious when playing in game and see enough k/m players bragging about it. Also the fact that people should be firing at the same fire rate as them with the same accuracy so there’s no way in hell there using a normal controller unless there cheating.
I think this Beta is, and correct me if I’m wrong here, defaulted to cross-platform only which has Aim Assist disabled? If not, then I’m at a loss because I too have noticed aiming is significantly harder than past Halos.
Text chat is a thing. I stopped and asked them. Hell, I have messaged folks through xbox just to ask what inputs they were using. M&K users told me they were using mouse and having a pretty good/easy time. Controller users told me they were using controllers and it was very difficult for them. They were all pretty nice about my inquiries and understood the issues at hand.
It’s a small amount of folks who think this sort of thing isn’t an issue. A very, very small amount.
So… you don’t really know. You got out shot and automatically thought “hey that person must be an M&K user because they’re better than me”.
So you talked to 10 people? Maybe 20? I’ll even say 50 people to give you the benefit of the doubt. So, out of the tens/hundreds of thousands of players that have played the game and this is your basis to say that a “very, very small amount” of players think it’s a non issue? That’s quite an interesting take.
I have a buddy who said he M&K was harder and switched to controller and was doing way better. Can apply my very small sample size to the greater population and say that controller AA is over tuned and M&K is way harder because of this? Of course not, it doesn’t make sense.
I can guarantee you that 343 is monitoring the data and hit %s of each input and will/can adjust from there. But anybody other than 343 claiming they “know” is full of hot air.
I’ve been playing Halo for almost 20 years now.
The lack of aim assist is a deal breaker for me.
It’s simply no fun at all playing on controller. And, this means everybody playing on Xbox Series S/X is simply not having a good time.
Great job 343!
