Lack of aim assist in Infinite

Yeah I think the game could use more aim assist though I’m not sure if I feel like that is the exact issue. I’ve played a lot of FPS on my PC with the controller and Infinite’s aim feels all over the place. I said it before but I’ll say it again here. I think even if they give controller users an aim assist boost M&K players are still generally going to have the advantage. I agree with others there’s a lot more to skill then just aiming at your opponent anyways.

There’s also the fact that a large portion of the Halo fan base plays with a controller. It’s largely been a controller game up until lately. You don’t want to alienate that crowd if you want the game to last. I personally think if they want the game to survive they will have to tweak aim assist or fix whatever the issue is.

yeah, bring a f2p game to 20 million gamepass subscriber but make it a chore to play. Great strategy.

No offense, but it’s funny to see that in Mcc controller players had an overwhelming advantage to the point that 95% of players used controller, now in infinite you actually have to aim, people start complaining because they don’t have the advantage anymore over MnK. A friend of mine is a beast on controller on mcc and he’s still a beast here. Keep playing and practice

Strongly disagree. You know that even if you increase the aim assist better players are still better players right? Look at destiny 2, tons of aim assist yet good players can still get 50+ kills in a control match

I played with MnK yesterday and it felt good to use, I had to decrease the sensitivity a bit.

Trust me. I haven’t played Halo 5 since it came out and regularly still play the older games. Something is off with this games aiming.
Console competitive games have always had aim assist so people saying competitive games need to remove it are just plain wrong.
And this ain’t a keep practice thing, especially with so many players having years of experience in Halo. The formula for aiming should have just never changed. Besides MCC adding more axis for aiming, the game has always had brilliant aiming.

Yeah…I kept playing and do you know what happened? I had to tense up my arm so much in order to precise aim that it is physically hurting me now. No, I am not exaggerating. In the last 20+ years I’ve been gaming this has never happened to me. This is a real problem that many people are having. Do not let your biases get in the way and cause problems for others. Additionally, this problem isn’t likely to be limited to just multiplayer. It’ll probably show up in campaign too. Proper aim support is crucial to gameplay on a foundational level. Getting this wrong can kill a game.

I am a PC gamer and you are completely wrong. Plug in Controller and try to compete against MK… you will get completely trashed. I had MK user in my lobby and he was trashimg me hard so I threw it away and then turned the match around and won. All I had to do was using MK again.

Some games have really strong aim assist which turns almost into an aimbot, but its not a case here at all.
Aiming with sticks is like 50 times harder than using MK. Sure I am new with controller and I am certain that some crazy players will trash you with controller without aim assist but it will be such a small margin that it isnt even worth mentioning.

I personally believe that for competitive playlist (controller only) there should not be any kind of aim assisst.
But when you have Xplay with MK in it… controller users simply need to be viable competition if you have Xplay…

But there is aim assist, it isn’t as high as in Mcc which has insane aim assist and is dominated by controller players, but it’s there

I put close to 70 hours of play time into the flights, and played 40 matches today, and aiming for controller on PC still feels atrocious. In fact, sometimes it feels worse than it did in the flights, which is mind boggling. 343 clearly has everything they need in order to make controller feel like it does in MCC on PC, and until they do, I just don’t think controller is even a viable option for anyone trying to have an even remotely consistent experience.

In Mcc,different game has different situations.H4 is easy to win with a controller but I think H3 is fair for each side. Why cannot go back to H3.

Aiming feels strange in this game for sure. Veeery unlike other halos. Aim assist also seems to differ per weapon, and even zoomed in vs zoomed out. Weird experience.

My biases? I played halo with a controller for 16 years until Mcc came out on PC, I think I have good knowledge on this subject. You can hope that 343 increases aim assist again like they did after the last flight, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen, I’m watching pro players on twitch right now and they don’t seem to have any problems using controller, 343 want the game to be successful in tournaments and I agree with their philosophy

Very true, it’s been like this since first flight

Halo has always had a competitive scene which was at it’s strongest with Halo 3.
Competitive play is about playing at the top level with the tools given to the player, aim assist, melee lunging and bullet magnetism are just part of the player’s tools.

ahh that is why i never play halo anymore. Its not as good as it used to be.

The whole game is a unfair game like every halo. Certain players will have advantages if your on pc against xbox.

I was saying to my friends it’s so hard to get a kill but I feel like I die so easy and games on 89 ping on btb. Still unplayable

Right? The only thing they accomplished is they convinced me to download Apex and give it a second chance. Took me 3 minutes to get my aim to feel good in that game compared to the multiple hours I spent fiddling with Infinite’s settings over the last few tests. I think I’ve spent more time adjusting settings and testing them against bots than actually playing the game and having fun.

Of course there is. If the Competitive Scene doesn’t like aggressive aim assist (or at all), then remove it in MLG/HCS game spaces. It’s as simple as that. But the baseline game experience should be focused on Fun, not Rank, and for a lot of people just wanting to play Halo and relax, having to sweat and stress just to land a shot is not fun.

That crap doesn’t belong, and this is why HCS never should have had as big an influence as they did.

I might have figured out where these complaints are coming from as I think it feels smooth and almost perfect for me. The only thing I don’t like is that the max sensitivity is too low.

Try this controller set up. I made it too feel like the older Halo games while still being able to zoom with something other than clicking the stick in. Maybe this will help.

A: JUMP
B: MELEE
X: RELOAD
Y: SWAP WEAPONS
RT: SHOOT
RB: EQUIPMENT
LT: THROW GENADE
LB: ZOOM
LEFT STICK: SPRINT
RIGHT STICK: CROUCH
DPAD: set this up how you want to to drop weapons, swap grenades, use the AI pulse, and to ping targets

Also MAX OUT AIM ACCELERATION!!! In every game I play I either max it or turn it off if possible. For those that don’t know: aim acceleration is the speeding up of the turning of the camera the longer you hold a particular direction. This always throws me off as growing up every game seemed to have linear aim acceleration which means it just always turns at whatever sensitivity you have it set to instead of ramping up to that sensitivity the longer you push a particular direction so maxing out aim acceleration should make it feel more linear as it starts closer to your chosen sensitivity. Maybe that is where a lot of your problems are stemming from and I think if you make this change it would help a lot. Turning it as low as it can go doesn’t turn it off in Infinite so don’t do that. Aim acceleration, when not linear, has always made me either over aim or under aim which I am willing to bet the biggest problem so it feels like aim assist or bullet magnetism are too low.

As a 20 year veteran of Halo who has been playing since I was 5, I would say please give this set up a try as I was able to do really well and get multiple games in a row over 20 kills on BTB and was able to pull off some really good sniper multikills along with finishing top 3 if not top place on the leaderboards. It will take a few games to get used to probably but it has worked for me. I am also not a sweat at Halo, I’d say I’m good but not great.
