Lack of aim assist in Infinite

It was mentioned a ton during the tech previews and they decided they wouldnt do much about it I guess

You can have a lot of fun sure but that’s no excuse to add aim assist to a game that has a competitive scene, any competitive game that takes itself seriously doesn’t have any kind of aim assist or bullet magnetism while I understand not all of us are sweats that take the game too seriously you have to recognize that there are some game mechanics that are just plain unfair or unbalanced, aim assist is one of these and killing someone without any kind of assist to your aim is really rewarding, that’s why I find playing with controller really boring since the game does all the aiming work for me if not most of it without barely any conscious effort, people who play on m&kb also want to relax and have fun but I don’t see them complaining about having to aim, really if you want to relax and maybe have fun please don’t play Halo for your own good.

Only on ranked tho, I wish it was for casual because I don’t necessarily want to sweat and play against sweats.

Aiming still feels very clunky, even on kbm.

You don’t understand the issue I think. If it was only controller vs controller I would not complain. The undeniable truth is that without aim assist, mnk players have a huge advantage. If anything aim assist makes the game more competitive.

You are extremely clueless and it’s very cute.

Not.

Oh trust me I perfectly understand the issue, m&kb and controller shouldn’t be competing to begin with, yes we can have crossplay but the only way to fix this would be by forcefully making matchmaking input based (campaign and firefight is fine if it’s not input based) “oh but i’d split the playerbase” not really since a lot of people play Halo on both platforms and we still have crossplay so even Xbox people can play with PC as long as both have the same input, if anything forcefully making both inputs to compete against each other makes a lot of players drop the game, that’s why Halo MCC had a massive player loss after the aim assist vs mouse aiming controversy with only 5k players on Steam right now, Halo could’ve been really big on PC if not for balance issues like this.

This is not true at all and you might not know what “competitive” means, you don’t give a disabled man with no legs robotic legs that are superior to normal human legs so they can compete with able bodied athletes that are still limited by their human nature, it’s not how this works and they shouldn’t competing together at all to begin with.

If anything, less aim assist or no aim assist on controller makes players who have higher skill to really shine in this game, the point of having skill is by doing it with by your own means, doing it this way brings you more satisfaction when getting a kill, it’s time for console games to let players aim even if they’re playing against players with the same input.

I loved the feel during the tech previews. The aiming and hit detection felt tight compared to Halo 5. However, during the beta tonight the aiming felt terrible. All over the place, but I’m not sure it’s the game or the lag. Pretty frustrated as to me it feels worse than the tech previews.

I really can not seem to hit anything, glad to know I’m still not alone. Having lag/fps issues, so that might be contributing, but something just isn’t working.

The aim assist feels okayish to me but it wouldn’t hurt to give it a slight buff if needed. After all this game is meant to be for fun and everyone. 343 should make aiming as easy as possible.

Aim assist does indeed make the game more competitive. Aim assist is necessary for controller users as aiming is too hard without. Sure it can be done but forcing everyone to handicap themselves is not how you keep a playerbase. This common misconception of “Aim assist for noobs! Aim assist makes the game non competitive” is just wrong. There is a reason why it’s there: To make aiming feel natural and easier on a gamepad. Aiming with a mouse is easy but that’s considered skillful, yet controllers users have to gimp themselves to prove who’s better? How does that make a lick of sense?

Furthermore who really cares about how good you are with sticks? Aiming is not the only skill that matters in competitive FPS. Positioning, strategy, movement, crosshair placement, game sense, map knowledge are super duper important, yet console users just boil it down to “Aiming must be harder and annoying to prove I’m good”? And this notion that aim assist does all the work for you is also so wrong. If you sit there and don’t do anything or if you are bad at aiming, you’re bad. That’s all there is to it. Removing or toning down aim assist will do nothing but create more problems and make the game feel like garbage.

No, it doesn’t. Are we going to forget there were competitive tournaments for Halo 2 and Halo 3 where the aiming and aim assist, etc was just fine and literally ANYBODY could play without struggling and yet there were still professionals who were exceptionally better by a wide margin?

I’m good at Halo. Infinite’s aiming feels really off for controllers and even though I’m getting those kills, something is really janky. It feels off and I am not about to sit here and bust my -Yoink!- and break a sweat trying to kill one guy with a sidekick for 20 minutes. I shouldn’t have to work so hard just to kill a guy point blank in my face and have to sit here and watch him struggle against me, either.

Even with any form of Aim Assist (which controllers need) to make them game playable and easier to control, it’s still you putting in the work. You’re the one giving input to even make any actions on-screen happen. Stop pretending everyone has to struggle in multiplayer to show their skill. Skill comes in many more forms than just “crosshair on enemy”.

Lack of knowledge on aim assist and the many types of it is what fuels this kind of thinking.

Ah yes, someone just broke a sweat fighting with the same guy for what felt like an hour and they’ve hardly contributed to the score or the objective. They must feel very satisfied.

Most of them are probably frustrated out of their minds it took so long to finish off one dude. Now they’re expecting to fight with the controller again more than the enemy ahead of them. At this rate, people will drop the game if it’s not addressed properly.

Hold on, you’re telling me up until this exact moment, console games have never allowed anyone to aim in their games? Especially against the same input devices they’re using? You mean to tell me this entire time, console games did all the work for us and we actually were just pretending to play? All those epic moments in our lives… all those crazy clips we’ve made of really wrecking house… was just the game playing itself? We had nothing to do with it?

That’s just as bad as finding out your dad/brother let you play their console games when you were a kid, only to find out your controller was never plugged in…

Yeah, no.

Idk what they did, but this game feels worse the the last flight. What really gets me tho, is when 343 posted that page on all the feedback. They talked about how they wanted to make aiming a learning experience, which I find is BS. If you make the game difficult to start with or to even learn, it’s going to push players away. Aiming shouldn’t be a walk in the park, but it should definitely feel natural.

I for 1 like the aiming, I turned all my dead ones to 0. After that things were near perfect. I play cod with no aim assist so that could be a reason too…

I had a hard time even getting a handful of kills in any match. I felt like I was playing people who had played for years, they hardly ever missed any shots. Not sure if I just had bad luck with who I was matched with or what, but I definitely could not hit my shots, no matter what I did. I guess it may just be the game being a little messed up for the controller players? I was just surprised because everyone I played against was consistently hitting me, so much so that even when I used an AR at close range, the guy I was shooting at would still beat me with a sidekick.

I am not sure where this sentiment comes from but my guess is mainly H4 and H5 players and some Destiny players. I play on Xbox with a controller and aiming in Halo Infinite feels great. I think people got used to H5 especially which had way too much aim assist and bullet magnetism so it made aiming and landing shots very easy. Now in Infinite it is to a normal level and I was consistently getting pretty high kill games. For me if they up it to be similar to H5 and people start using precision weapons like they did in that game I’d probably just stop playing because it gave people way too much help. Some things need to take time to get used to so give it some time and I’m sure you will get used to it.

Honesty it’s super upsetting. Waited all these years for a new Halo and they decided to cater to the PC crowd and make the worst feeling Halo ever on console. It’s pretty bs honestly.

Forcing crossplay and play against keyboard and mouse IN SOCIAL of all places is just freaking ridiculous.

And that’s just the surface level. Beyond that barebones matchmaking choices and god awful battle pass makes you wonder why we should even play Infinite.

probably going back to MCC.

i think it feels a lot better then the beta’s but still needs a bit of work

Was uber -Yoink!- excited for this Halo multiplayer. Then I played a couple games with a controller : It’s unplayable.

I might just give up. Having absolutely zero fun whatsoever. Doesn’t help that the Battle Pass progression is beyond stupid.

I tried fiddling with the settings; to no avail…

I don’t think I have ever felt that bummed out before about a game and I started playing way back in 1986. :-1:t2:

I think it’s all in the settings. Just tried out somebody’s custom settings from reddit and i’m going to be honest, it feels a lot better than the stock settings that are given. At least I’m hitting the targets on a consistent basis now.
