Lack of aim assist in Infinite

All the pro teams are on controller, so it’s probably just a case of the opp being better than you. It will be volatile until more games are played.

That makes no sense. I’ve literally been saying the person was aiming about the same or worse and yet the person did not fire first. Also I seriously doubt that all ‘pro’ teams are using controller. Just sounds like you’re just ignoring what I said then trying to blame it on anyone else to avoid criticism. If I was firing at a fair distance then sure I might get it but when the person is front of me nearly and I can clearly see where my shots are going then I think I have right to say something was off. :pensive:

I reread your post and the only thing that makes immediate sense is that most ranked KBM players are spamming A/D to wiggle and it makes a decent amount of shots miss.

Edit: you could also have input lag issues

When starting up a new FPS game for the first time, many of us on controller have a sort of ritual - go into settings as soon as possible and start tweaking what is needed to have a smooth experience that works for us. The firing range in Halo: Infinite is great for this purpose, in fact.

While going through the settings, though, this one was shocked to not see anything at all about aim assist. This is pretty standard fare for consoles with controller input devices, isn’t it? Scrolling through the options twice, then three times for good measure did indeed turn up a lack of aim assist options. They were not under accessibility settings either. Questions raced: does this game have built-in aim assist? Is there just no aim assist? What’s going on?

Through matches and gameplay, this one finds the gunplay fine. Whether there is or isn’t an aim assist, the game has been fun and can’t complain about the aiming.

All the pro teams are probably on controller because most of them have been playing Halo for 15 years, and controller was the only way to play Halo until 2 years ago, and was still an advantage in every Halo until exactly 2 days ago. They’re much more comfortable on controller, and 2 days is not enough time for the competitive team to abandon their preferred input method.

Oh my god THANK YOU. This is the first thing I tried that actually worked. The AA still feels weak but it’s not longer entirely broken

so ive done some research and turns out if you are playing on pc but using a controller, if you press enter on the keyboard on the start screen, it can (bug) out the aim assist, making the game think you are using a Keyboard and mouse, even tho you are using a controller, if you go on YouTube, and watch XQC reacting to aim assist or “Esports Talk” video on the matter, you’ll find the aim assist is actually stronger than any of the previous halos with video evidence.

mouse and keyboard players get NO aim assist at all (controller you aim at someone and they move your cursor moves slightly/moderately depending on their distance to you and the guns max range, were on keyboard and mouse due to the lack of aim assist it is very hard to kill a strafing target (without the practice to keep up with their movement), and to players in the forums unless you can prove they are on mouse and keyboard, i feel like many of you are using it as an excuse and not realizing you are in-fact just playing against controller players while the game is bugged on your side.

as an gamer, not PCMR, i own alot of consoles Xbox/PS/Switch/PC i have had the chance to compare and i agree, things do need to change but bugs also need to be weeded out, but please remember, multiplayer season one, is still beta, just this beta wont close, it will follow through to final release  happy slaying everyone and good luck

(ADVICE)

make sure if you are a controller player, you press Start on your controller rather than enter on your keyboard

keyboard players, if your are struggling to keep up with aim assisted players try going into practice mode and train your tracking skills,

controller players, try to take fights from a distance with br’s, AR with close range  (and dont forget to strafe)

Oh please, every Halo game that has ever had a competitive scene has had aim assist in some form and no one complained back then.

As a controller player I think there might be too much aim assist right now.

I think the level of aim assist was better in the flights.

I certainly don’t want more aim assist on a controller.

i use a controller on my pc, and i believe that it is perfect in this game. yesterday i used my xbox controller for 4 hours straight and did not encounter any issues with the precision weapons. i do want to note that controller aiming might be different on pc than it is on console, as my brother (who only plays on xbox) was consistently complaining about bad auto-aim. i would like to note that i believe framerate plays a big part in your aim, as my monitor is 144hz and i do much better when i get 144 fps, and so i think that some players may need to disable some options to get better fps so that they may aim better. perhaps the older xbox ones are under performing?

I found a solution to the missing controller aim assist on pc:

unplugging M&K on pc to play on controller, as well as pushing the Xbox overlay button every round/ every few deaths “fixes” the issue (for me).

the game seems to get confused about which input is being used, shutting of aim assist completely.
this also slightly reduced game stuttering.

Good luck ^^

they need to implement switch of input in the settings like COD does it. If you selectg controller the game will not allow you to use MK while ingame. You have to finish the match and change it in settings again. That is imho the best choice and should also keep AA consistent…

Even though Halo started competitive on Xbox on controller but go off kid. Show how little you actually know about Halo.

after playing 10 hours on the series x, the aim assist is not working . Aiming is real bad in infinite. You will aim a lot around the person and overshoots because it speeds up

After reading a reddit comment about Infinite aiming and spending 45 minutes tuning my control settings on Xbox: setting deadzones to 0 (center deadzones as low as possible to prevent drift), Max thresholds to 0, acceleration to 5.
I can finally say aiming feels GREAT! I guess it’s the default settings that are straight up bad. I’ve been playing Halo for 20 years and never messed with anything other than the button layout and sensitivity.
At it’s core, Infinite aiming is very similar to MCC. So why does it feel so bad with default settings?

I had to research then spend ages tuning my settings just to feel like I could hit anything. There has to be something wrong here!

I think the sensitivity is just too low; I like the lack of aim assist and people are going to get perfect at it, they always do. Give it a year, or even five years, but eventually people will be getting headshots with every pull of the trigger. I’m glad it’s at least a little harder in this game.

@ECHOE10 That’s true but that was a different time and on different machines. There’s no room for aim assist in a competitive PC environment. It’s why mcc never took off on PC. Counter-strike is still king after all this time, zero controllers among pros. Overwatch league had zero controller players. If halo wants into the PC market, which it clearly does, it needs to drop aim assist.

Aim assist is only competitive in an all controller setting. It should therefore only be in the controller playlist. It’s just a free aim bot in the other playlists.

It’s still a highly Xbox game, so they need to keep it if they continue with crossplay. If they don’t keep aim assist, the only fair option would be to mothball crossplay

Then go play CS or Overwatch.

If you ever wondered why console players don’t want their exclusives to come to PC, this is only reason I can think of. Halo’s been a console-only shooter since Halo 2. MnK players have had access for ten minutes and they’re already demanding that the game be made unplayable on controller so that they can dominate players who can barely fight back, which they can already do in most other shooters.

No offense. You sound like the kind of person who sends hate messages after beating a team. Halo always been about having fun with friends
