I have to admit I’m surprised. Halo has been my long standing favorite franchise since the release of Halo 3. But sadly I never got that feeling I once had playing halo since 2013 on Halo Reach before I moved on to the one.
Dont get me wrong I love playing halo 5 but it’s a different love. It’s the love of competition and wanting to play against strong opponents who could put me to my limits at my skill level. I lost that innocent love of just wanting to play and having a laugh while doing so.
I thought it was gone and that feeling would never return but today I decided to try castle wars for the first time. I’ve played it before in Customs on older titles so it didn’t mean much to me it was burnt out for me due to long stale mates and the such.
But I launched it and I noticed myself playing with a grin on my face and wanting more laughing at random points through out the game.
So to that I say Kudos to you Halo 5. I thought I would never feel that way playing a game again and you proved me wrong. This is one of the many reasons why Halo still stands as my favorite gaming franchise of all times.
See you on the battle field Spartans.
Halo 5’s Forge and what it can do is mind-blowing. I mean check this out. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg with what these forgers are coming up with. Take all the crazy, fun stuff people were coming up with in every previous Forge and multiply the possibilities ten fold. For every cool custom game I played in Halo 3 or Reach, there’s a Halo 5 version of it on steroids.
If you play with friends (or even not, if the population is up), the custom browser is the place to be to find more stuff like Castle Wars.

Trust me I know what Halo 5 Forge is capable of. Though when I browsed through the custom games browser I couldn’t find anything interesting except maybe a few game modes but they were all the same for the most part for me customs are meant to be played with friends. At least that’s how it is for me I can play with randoms and love doing so I just can’t find the urge to do it as much
I thought this was going to be a ‘goodbye’ post when I pulled it up and your opening lines scared me lol
I too have had a lot of the old Halo charm return from Castle Wars. It’s been a crescendo and decrescendo of passion for me really. I love the social, silly antics that can be found in the mode, but I have realized I dislike the basic structure- specifically the fact the only spawns are directly next to the only entrance to the bases. It becomes a weird mode where capturing the flag isn’t the hard part- once you have the flag it’s pretty easy actually. It’s just getting into the enemy’s base is tricky. The problem seems to be compounded by 30m autolock spartan charges, and swords that have sniper range on them.
But perhaps I’m being whiny. The mode is still top notch, and I am addicted to it and love playing it every chance I get.
Kudos to who ever made the snail assassination in ion strip club in customs… Such a awesome map and fun game. Always said I don’t use the custom browser enough!

Castle Wars with a party of 8 is some of the best Halo fun I’ve had in a long time. Great stuff, glad you enjoyed it!

Haha well I would be lying if I’d say I thought the mode was perfect. Things that irritate me are energy snipers and people who spartan charge me from one side of the map.
of course teammates who don’t know what their doing when they get in my way can be a little annoying but to be honest I think this is one of the only gamemodes I actually love playing with randoms.
i’ll load up into the lobby everyone spawning and I’ll give my best bad motivational speech and at the end yell “are you with me!”
at times I get no response but most of the times I have a good portion stay behind and crouch really fast or the ones with mics yell “yeaaaa!” Back
and then we charge forward. I will admit I think it’s refreashing I missed talking to randoms like that and making new friends on Halo I feel like it’s been far too long.
I may of got off topic a little there haha my bad mate
I never made it a secret how H5G disappointed me, but Forge? This version of Forge is the reason for why I came back again and again and again. Really, kudos to Tom French and his team (it was him, right? I’m terrible with names
)!
I hope 343i can build upon it even further in the next installment. A mirror tool for instance!^^
…
If you put AI in there I will -Yoink!- the cover of Halo 6 though, so be warned!

I could go on for hours with my eccentric and, frankly, weird opinions on the things that forgers do in this game - your link being a fine example of: amazing but why?
That aside, the general issue of “fun” in Halo is an important one and I’m glad that Castle Wars brought that back to the OP, and I agree with you that forge is the first very important step in reclaiming this game on behalf of fun, something which is entirely missing from the bulk of H5 multiplayer. But forge is only part of the equation. Custom games is the other side of the forge coin, and I don’t know what everyone else finds there, but about 99% of the time the browser is an ocean of stupidity and lameness which has the added handicap of absolutely no skill restrictions at all (obviously). So, for me anyway, fun continues to be a very hard-to-define and elusive characteristic of Halo. A firefight mode that is not team-based would be a good start. Oops. There’s me being all weird and eccentric again.
Halo 5’s forge is the absolute best in the series there is no argument and no competition while halo reach or 3 may have had some good game modes halo 5 has them and then some. it is very fun although the whole clan recruitment games on the custom browser is annoying but you will find some good games every once in a while

Yeah, a lot of those gametypes people come up with are pretty weird … like the one where you have to jump over pigs or wind up in hell if they hit you. They’re interesting, but only fun for about 3 seconds. The good ones are the types that wound up being Halo staples that people came up with in the Halo 2 days, like Infection & Juggernaut. I was suggesting the browser in case OP hadn’t explored it and was into that kind of stuff (like Jenga, for instance … another neat idea where you only to play one round to go “ok, I get it”). What makes them fun is rounding up a handful of friends and going in mostly to troll each other and not really take the game seriously. Whenever I play a competitive mode with friends I do terribly (which I blame on being distracted by them on the mic, I usually don’t play with one), so we tend to play the goofy stuff like Jump Rope and Rainbow Road.
When I play Halo 5 solo (which is 90+% of the time), I tend to hang out in BTB, Team Arena, Slayer, Infection (a wee bit), and Firefight.
And don’t worry about being weird & eccentric. People have been calling me those things due to my interests, appearance, mannerism, diction … basically everything … for decades and I’m proud of it.
Halo 5’s multiplayer is pretty good my favorite game types are super fiesta and castle wars, i just hope they add more weapons and vehicles from other halo games also warzone is pretty good too.
