In past Halo games there were always laughs to be had (partly because we enjoyed the game) like killing Cpt Keyes straight away on The Pillar of Autumn, killing Sgt Johnson over and over again throughout CE, finding the easter eggs and skulls like Grunt Birthday in Halo 2.
There is no humour in Halo 4. Sara Palmer and the other menile new characters are uninteresting. Grunts aren’t funny or quirky anymore.

I lol’d when I took h4 out of my console and didn’t bother to put it in the case. Thought about it then decided it wasn’t worth the 2 seconds of effort, just threw it on the floor. I’m not sure where it is now, I haven’t even looked for it
Usually in Halo the marines and soldiers tend to say some funny things when fighting. I haven’t really looked for it, but has anyone else seen them say anything in Halo 4?
I agree, Halo 4 took itself too seriously. I know everybody wants a dark, “gritty” game/story nowadays but sometimes it’s good to just unwind a little bit.
I think there were a few scripted humorous scenes.
The first one that comes to mind is in the first level when Cortana is explaining how some parts of the ship are not stable and Chief almost falls to his death, followed by “right…”
Not hilarious but the kind of dry humor Halo has that is amusing.
What else like that happened, trying to remember…
Also when Lasky orders a fully armed Pelican to “chase down Chief” in case he got away.
And the one inshutdown where a Marine is testing out the Mantis. The guy tells him to look up, but the Mantis looks down. The marine cries “aww! Who inverted the looking stick!”
This is pretty much the only thing you can do with Lasky.
There’s no easter egg associated with him like there was with Captain Keyes (“Hi, my name is Keyes”, Megg, Proto-Gravemind’s pipe) and Sarge.
Worst part is that he deloads before the Mammoth even reaches any enemy. So we can’t have Lasky running at Grunts. Remember Johnson in Halo 3? How you could bring him unarmed and have him running and screaming?
When Halo moves away from this invincible NPCs nonsense that was reintroduced with ODST and brings back Halo 3’s tried and true resurrection system for them, that’ll be the day I have fun.
