King of the Hill is great

I actually like the new scoring. Unlike Crazy King in the past it is an actual center of attention. So you don’t end up having people staying close but not too close to the hill so that when it moves they have an edge. You know when it’s changing and that’s good. Technically it’s still a “Score 750 points to win” game, it just feels different.

I really don’t like this mode. It really feels like most of the maps weren’t made for it, and getting through a match is a real slog. (plus, why put it in quickplay if there’s a whole playlist for the game type??) I never got to play the KotH of older games but whatever this is. Is not fun.

Why put Slayer in quick play if there’s a whole playlist for the game type??

Now I’m the bad guy.

No the thing is I don’t think slayer should be in quickplay either lol

That makes sense, but it also applies to what I said within my first post: use the new scoring system in Custom Games at the HCS tournaments, and keep the classic scoring system that everyone has enjoyed for more than a decade in online matchmaking.

Glad this triggered some discussion.

Criticisms I can understand:

  • 100% it should have already been in the game on release
  • Scoring system uncertainty (although I think it’s been well explained that it makes a comeback more possible)
  • Disappointing when the hill doesn’t move far from previous location

Criticisms I’m less on board with;

  • What the hologram looks like
  • It’s just a mosh pit that everyone moves towards. For me, that’s half the appeal.

100%
The KOTH implementation in Halo Infinite is very good. You need a good tactic and it plays very well on the maps.
Its now one of my favorites in inifnite

If everyone’s just charging straight for it, something’s not right . I often hang back a bit, or make detours to pick up extra weapons or grenades. If my three teammates are heading straight for it, it doesn’t make sense for me to do the same.

Haha sure I get that. I think I mean; it’s a fun mode because getting to the action is easy, and in unranked modes you’re less likely to get done from behind because everyone is focused on the hill. Obviously there’s plenty of tactics you can use and in ranked in particular it plays more like a good strongholds setup, where you’re watching lanes, controlling spawns etc

Do you get more score for staying in the hill?

That’s the thing, you need to be in the hill to score. It’s not like Strongholds where you can capture the zone and then get to a better position.

I think you get 25 points every few seconds for staying on the hill

Thanks. Wasn’t sure if I still got them outside the area or not if my team had the hill.
