KINECT: Voice commands /Best Idea!

So why is this idea so good?

  1. It focuses on and brings forward teamwork.

  2. It makes people want to get out of their parties (As they will understand the importance of teamwork).

  3. It allows for players to teach beginners where weapons are placed (Removing the weapon-markers on their spawn).

What is the idea?

As Kinect is mandatory on every Xbox let’s take advantage of that use it within the game-boundaries of Halo. Every place on the map has a call-out and is written on your screen somewhere.

Just like in Halo Reach:

While someone is calling out to the Kinect, the part of the map the player is calling out would highlight to let other players understand where he is talking about.

This would obviously be a feature that you could turn off and on in your menu-settings.

Muting someone would specifically turn the feature to light up parts of the map with a given call out off so you can’t “see” their call-outs.

It would only highlight for a couple of seconds and look like this to not clutter the screen too much.

On bigger maps with more players, only players within a certain range of the player himself would see the call-out he is calling out.

That sounds like it could be a very useful online.

Either that or have an app for call outs. (tablet brings up map, tap where you want teammates to go.) The new kinect voice commands might be as bad as all voice commands. Stuck myself so many times in Halo CEA when I said reload.

That wouldn’t work as you wouldn’t be able to call out and play at the same time. It would suck if the game highlighted another place than you meant when you called out, but as the Kinect and Voice-commands have been one of their biggest advertisements I don’t think so. It must be pretty pin-point on.

It does, and that is why I am hoping for more community response.

This is a good idea. Although it might be actually better to not have the mute-option automatically disable the highlight, so you could see when they call out a place but you don’t have to listen to them otherwise if you don’t want to.
I can definitely see 343 putting something like this in the game, especially since there were voice commands in Halo CEA.

It is meant as security for anyone who would try to abuse the call-out system. If you for some reason muted them from the start, they most likely aren’t calling out either.

But maybe we could have two different mute buttons if that wasn’t the case?

That’s what I was thinking, actually.
Mute: you don’t hear his voice.
Callout highlighting disabled: you don’t see his callouts.

In the other thread about Kinect i posted something similar about gestures:

> > The Kinect needs to be left out in terms of gameplay.

> If you’re talking strictly shooting and stuff, then yes. But I quite like OPs suggestions (not so much the nade one) also we perhaps we can see gestures like pointing towards an objective and your spartan points and tells people to go for it.

It would be good if 343 considered something like this for halo 5.

Also, I forgot about this thread i made, but these were some of my ideas for Voice commands for AI for like firefight/spops.
Vancouva also made a nice thread about the posibilites of voice commands.
There have also been some older and more amusing posts about the idea of voice commands, even this one which noted how anniversary had it for a wish list for halo 4.

I’m not trying to overload you with threads here, but some of the ideas are worth bearing in mind. Its a shame but threads about Kinect don’t seem to last long so they’re not long reads.
