I know this shouldn’t bug me as much as it does, but i’m kinda finding it hard to get over this.
It was pretty much obvious when 343 announced that there would be no legendary edition for the game that they knew how most gamers felt about multiple special editions and bonus content for the game itself. Clearly the bonus content divide does kinda keep everyone out from all the content (cosmetic or not) and the divide with the whole “preorder from different stores” thing is kind of a pain too.
The thing I really hate though is the Recruit (super odst) and the Fotus (unicorn) armor sets. Its kinda opinion based but the fotus is a cool looking armor set, but now its only limited to the console edition of the game. I might have thought about buying the console but I’ve already dropped $300 some on the Gears 3 console last year and I don’t think i’m willing to shell out more for another xbox (awesome looking as it may be). Why couldn’t they just be the same, maybe its just for incentive I guess.
I’m bothered with the different stores have different add ons. I suppose if they can do that, they can limit the fotus to the xbox edition. I think you’ll be able to unlock it eventually though, so it doesn’t bother me too much.
I don’t think they’ll be exclusive forever. But the point of having bonuses for expensive stuff is to get people to spend more money, and to make people feel better about having spent that money. Their way of keeping it fair for players who can’t afford special editions is by making those differences cosmetic in nature, so they aren’t getting a different experience than you.
And like I said, I doubt it’ll be long before 343i offers them as DLC for a handful of points. They might even be in the game as unlockables at higher ranks, and buying a special edition just gives you earlier access to something everyone will have at some point.
That would kinda defeat the purpose of having it along with a limited edition in the first place… and I gotta be honest, not alot of companies actually release the preorder content later on if its just a skin or anything else cosmetic.
Recieving Fotus armor for completing every specialization sounds like a good idea to me.
Would take forever, but not like reaching inheritor in Reach.
Although we don’t know how fast you actually rank up in H4.
Its all about marketing. Im getting both the LE Box and LE game(really need a new box). For those out there looking for exclusives, what better way to sell a soon to be out of date console then to throw some one of a kind in game item in with it.

I think you can cease your vigil on that one, man.

-Yoink- no. They should stay exclusive period. If you don’t buy the le or console you shouldn’t get it. Sounds harsh but its true.
I think Frankie mentioned something along the lines of there not being a reason that the pre-order skins wounldn’t eventually be released although I am not sure if this applies to the LE and CE versions since they come with it regardless of whether you pre-order, and are therefore not a pre-order bonus.
Here’s a quote from bs angel in my mailbox. Interpret what you wan’t from it, because it’s not an official yes or no.

Do you know if the exclusive content will be the same regarding the armor and armor skin? They have announced that the console comes with an exclusive light rifle skin and the limited edition has an assault rifle skin. But, what I really want to know is if the armor and armor skin will be the same?

Honestly, I feel that the LE should include all exclusive items, including pre-order bonuses. That would drive more people to buy the LE (a lot of people love to be completionists), which would mean more money (for them).
If you cant afford the Limited Editions or the Console, or have just purchased a console recently and dont feel bothered buying another regardless of it being a collectors item with nice exclusives, then I dont believe you truly have any reason to slap those in the face who have decided to purchase it. Your whole argument is toward the Armor, my god its Armor, its not going to change your gameplay or make you any better at the game, theres no reason to cheapen the exclusives or throw them out for everyone to have eventually just because you dont, it would put a sour taste in those who have purchased the Limited Editions mouths. Pre Order Bonus DLC is fine, its not exclusive to a collectors item, and I could see it coming available in time. But having something Exclusive to the Limited Edition merchandise become a hand out for everyone when its sentimental to those collectors who spent quite a bit extra to get their hand on not only the DLC but the other content as well would be a very foolish move for 343i.
I myself held off from buying the Gears of War 3 console even as a fan, because I felt to me the Halo 4 edition would be of more value and appreciaton, I prefer the art of Halo in general. Its all about the choices you make, and if a choice keeps you from getting something you may want at that time, whether it be career or lack of funds thats hurting you the most, then just take the time, wait, and get that item when you can. Evidently some people on this forum believe the DLC, Extras, wont still be there by the time they make the purchase, this is simply false and there will be left over Limited Editions out there for a while. There is simply no reason to be selfish and so needy as to ruin others oppurtunitys, both Halo 3 and Halo Reach and games like Mass Effect trilogy, Crysis 2, Gears of War trilogy, have had exclusive content from purchasing certain items or pre ordering, I have no clue why Halo 4 cant continue this and keep exclusive content actually exclusive. Otherwise I dont see why companys would even bother with exclusives anymore if everyones going to rage over them, and just get them handed to them eventually anyway smh.
By the way, there is a thing called Ebay, people will be selling the DLC codes if it matters that much for a much lower price, and without bothering with purchasing the Limited Edition merchandise, just go stalk it a few days.
I am still going to ask politely if 343i will let me have fotus. Ether by buying it or releaseing it I really like the armor and my gf does too so it would be awsome to get it without spending $800 dollars for the both of us just to have armor. Plus when is anything ever exclusive I.e. recon in halo 3.
343i unlocking Recon for everyone was a simple gift to the community after the game remaining played for 5 years and for Halo’s 10 year anniversary, and was always available regardless if you had the friends and time to take out to get the Achievements. It was never a Exclusive content and never came with a purchase, its the same as the Haunted Helmet in Reach just a extra permutation for dedicated players. So I dont see why your even bringing up Recon, it has no bearing on anything and is just another unlockable armor. You should definately check Ebay every few days after the game releases there will be many people just selling the codes instead of keeping them if its truly a item you desire. I do feel ya though lol I’m buying 2 consoles one for myself and my gf since were holding off on getting the Halo 4 headset for a bit and my current xbox has been beaten down over the last couple years pretty good so its time for a new one to find its home for sure.
