Kills for xp or completing game?

Should you get XP based on how many kills you get in the game instead of just finishing it? If it was like that then you would earn your ranks instead of being able to sit in a corner and get XP when match ends or in gamemodes like grifball if you score that gives you a good bit of XP and then it adds up how many kills, assists, scores,or infections you get and take away XP from the game (not your total XP) for how many deaths except super fiesta

XPs for finishing the game.
No need to punish bad players (like me) for not getting so much kills.

Maybe a bit of both? Lets say when you finish a game you get (out of the context of Halo 5 because I forget how much XP is alot) 2000-3000XP depending on whether you win or lose. Then every kill you get earns you a bonus 50ish which means if someone carries a team they can get an extra few hundred points (or even a few thousand in some cases) but in a game where everybody does equally as well they could all get an extra 500-600 XP.

Maybe it could change depending on what game mode you play. Getting kills in CTF could get you a measly 10XP while capturing a flag could get you 300.
Something along these lines would be cool, reward the winning team and give the MVP a little bonus.

You need to be careful when you start making incentives for kills - while it may sound good in theory, you usually just end up with people stat padding (especially in objective games). What you want to do is find ways to promote and incentivise (is that even a word ? <.<) team work and game wins.

Yeah that would be a lot better. like EdgeHedgehog said there’s no reason to punish bad players but it would make the question “how did you get to 152,you are terrible” a lot less common and if you get an extermination, unfrig, perfection,or something really hard to get in the game you get like 1000 XP

The spartan/XP rank is nothing but play time based, the ranking system itself is what is meant to sort out the good players from bad and getting the most kills isn’t always what determines a good from a bad player.

also as another said you need to be careful how you promote giving incentives on kills, you don’t want people to stay pad or boost cause in the end you’re adding more frustration to the game.
