Killing Off Master Chief

What do you think the chances of them doing this are? personally I really doubt they will, And what would you’re reaction be? Id hate them kill off John, the saviour of man kind several times over, he is by far my favorite character and not for the obvious reasons either. But, this is just my opinion, what is yours?

Spartans never die, they’re just missing in action.

:stuck_out_tongue: true, but seriously, what if he did?

I don’t see him getting killed off. He’d have to have a massively badass death or else the fans would riot. Bungie already cornered the market on badass death with Noble 6, and anything above that level would be so ridiculous it’d be comical.

I actually find that as a character, he has run his course and needs to be retired. That’s just my opinion though. Playing through ODST and then Reach showed me just how much Bungie improved on their characterization after Halo 3. Though for the most part Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, and Alan Tudyk sold the ODST’s to me for characterization.

If they chose to have him die, Which seems unlikely given the Microsoft presidents belief that ODST and Reach were missteps solely for stepping away from Chie’fs shoes, They would need to give him a proper Heroic Death. Though they Shouldnt’ overshadow Noble 6’s death, He died fighting to the last breath against assured annihilation.

Spartans don’t die… They respawn (extremely overused joke)
OT: I don’t think he will die. Not now, not in this trilogy.

His death occurring at the end of Halo 6 could work - in fact, could make for an amazing ending - so long as 343 do it right. By this, I mean it can’t be a last-minute “oh noes I must stay behind and detonate teh bomb!” kinda death, that’s cheap. Nor should it be Noble Six style, in which his actual death was pointless. There would have to be something intrinsically vital about the specific act of 117’s demise that’s pivotal to the plot, similar to how Harry had to let Voldemort kill him in the Deathly Hallows.

Of course, for this (or any) ending to work, the characters and plot will also have to be good enough and build up to the point that the player cares enough about ‘winning’ that they want to make the ultimate sacrifice for it. And sadly, there’s no easy way of making a quality story, 343 will just have to hire great writers and put a lot of effort in.

Unless Chief becomes a well written and rounded character his death will simply feel like it was on the check list.

Getting alot of brilliant responses, but I still believe, once 343i has explored John’s personality more like they claim they are going to, I would like to see him live, as a hero, maybe the sacrifice of another character which we build up to knowing in the trilogy could make just as much of an impact as a noble death of the chief himself, kind of like Johnson’s death but an even more important character?

I think it’s possible at the end of this new trilogy, but for Halo 4, no I don’t think so.

Spartan’s never die? If only that were true…

It was a reference to the books.

Yeah. I think in Halo 6 he should die. He has been around for awhile, and I think it would be better if they killed him off in some heroic fashion.

I’m fine with them retiring the character but if the only way they can do that is by killing him in a very obvious way then they need some more imagination.

He was quoting Halsey

MC and Cortana must die together, if ever.

When Chief dies the franchise dies.

And John 117 is never MIA he’s just in a Cryo Chamber resting…

I was finishing off the quote. Halsey is told about the protocol for Spartan death is labeling them MIA or WIA. and wishes it were true.
