Kill zones on forge

Does anyone know how to make a kill zone work on forge? I have several placed, and they are in box shapes to match where I want them. Is there a particular thickness that they have to be, or is it a time thing? (By time thing, I mean it takes x seconds in a kill zone to kill you. This makes the difference between jumping through a kill zone and sitting in one.
Any help is appreciated

They are only active in Customs…

Kiil Zones come into 2 flavors: Soft and Hard. Soft kill zones offer a 10 second grace of time for the player to return to the battlefield before being killed. Hard kill zones (just named kill zones in forge) will kill a player instantly if they go within the zone. a general rule of thumb for soft and hard kill zone use is to place soft kill zones in areas inside the map you wish players to stay out of, and to place hard kill zones in areas that prevent the player from leaving the map unscathed (or breaking the map).

The amount of “zone” (size/thickness) you would want to put up is dependent on where you want to place it. For example, if you have a tower on the map, and you wish not to allow players on the roof of that tower, you would place a hard/soft kill zone that would best match the size of the tower’s roof. If the tower is square/rectangular in shape, a box shape would be good, and if the shape of the roof is roundish, a cylinder shape would probably be preferable. You could also use multiple kill zones if one kill zone is unable to cover that particular area.

Generally speaking, a kill zone’s thickness is up to the forger. It should be something that would not interfere with the flow of the map (unless that is the intention of the forger). For example, the tower of the roof. The width/length should contain the area of the roof, whereas the vertical measurements of the kill zone (top/bottom)should be determined where the kill zone is placed. I would suggest placing the kill zone so it is touching the roof of the tower, and placing it in the middle of said roof.

Let’s say the roof is 5x5 in area in the shape of a square, so a kill zone set to box shape with width and length set to around 5.0, set the kill zone in the middle of the roof, and adjust top and bottom measurements accordingly (if you wish the players to move around in the tower, you may wish to make it so the bottom of the kill zone is not in the tower).

And of course, test the map in a custom game to see if the zone(s) are working. If you’re setting up for competitive play (aka using the standard game types the game ships with), just fire up something like Slayer (which doesn’t require objects to be forged into the map to be playable). If you’re building for a custom-based game (something you came up with), make sure to test it out with that game type (and make sure you have made it if you already haven’t).

I hope this helped, and if you need more answers, I would suggest a forge forum (as they cater to helping/exploring forge more than a general Halo forum).

Forgehub is a good place to start
