What do you think about kill times in Halo 4? Kill times in Halo have been getting slower and slower. Halo CE had fast kill times. Halo 2 had slower kill times and Halo 3 made kill times slower. Reach continued this pattern. So what do you guys think would be the best kill time?
Quick Halo CE style kill times?
Slower Halo Reach kill times?
Or kill times that we haven’t seen yet.
I would like to have kill times like Halo CE’s or somewhere in between Halo CE and 2. The reason is because with slower kill times, Halo has been really slowed down. Gunfights may get boring sometimes. It also makes it very easy to run away from every gunfight with sprint. I liked how the fast kill times made the game more fast paced. I don’t want CoD style kill times of course! Thats just my opinion though.
Slow kill times always in a team game the “teamshot” must be taken into account Br should not come back unless they can balance it and make it a more elegant weapon like the dmr should have been, I go back to the BR now and it looks crude. I understand there are lot people who thought being good with BR meant you where good at halo. not the case
The ideal kill times would be between Halo CE and Halo 2 for the utility weapon. Then based on the difficulty of the utility weapon to use compared to other weapons you can deduce how quickly the other non power weapons should kill.
The key point is perfect kill times vs average kill times. Perfect kill times should be quick like the Halo CE Pistol but very difficult. Using CE again as an example - the Pistol had a perfect kill time of about 0.6 seconds within 3 shots, however a 5-6 shot kill was much more likely to happen because it was difficult to land those shots (for various reasons; the actual aiming mechanics were more difficult and hitboxes were smaller but players also were able to strafe without having to accelerate back to top speed when changing direction).
On the other end of the spectrum you have the Halo 2 BR which was incredibly easy to land shots with and had a significantly slower kill time (>1 second). Hence kill times should be relative to the ease of use of a weapon - if it’s easy to use it should take longer, whereas if it’s difficult to use then it should kill more quickly and everything else in the sandbox should be balanced around that.
It’s not that simple. The kills times for weapons have been changing but not all in the same direction. The “medium to long range weapon” kill time has slowly increased whereas the needler and plasma pistol “kill times” have decreased. If we are to discuss “kill times” we need to look at the sandbox as a whole, vehicles included.

Start with the utility weapon then build everything else around that.

This. Exactly my thoughts, I just didn’t want to type it all up. I agree with everything here, like I state in this thread
Agreed, I think kill times should be between CE and 2. The utility weapon should also not be easy to use. It needs to have low aim assist and low bullet magnitism and with some fast strafing.
Either a 1.5 second four burst kill time like the BR, or a 1.2-1.3 second four bullet kill time somewhat similar to the pistol of Halo CE. I would personally refer the former as burst firing just gives a bigger skill gap in online conditions because the need to keep your reticle at the opponent to hit all the shots in the burst compensates for the big amount of bullet magnetism and aim assist needed for online play. It also deals better with hitscan which is a necessity for balanced online play (on part of host advantage).
Something between Halo 2 and Halo 3. I like using guns in combinations. If you can kill ultra fast the need or effectiveness of that will drop or disappear completely. I also loved setting people up with frags in Halo 2 and Halo 3. I want to see that return.
I want quick kill times, but not Call of Duty quick. I’d say Halo 2 kill times, because even a 3sk magnum sounds like too much. That’s only 1 more shot than some of the single fire weapons in CoD. Even the jump between Reach and 3 is drastic.

The “teamshot” factor is exactly why I want H2/3 killtimes back. I remember playing halo 3 and stumbling onto the entire enemy team. I walk away with an extermination and half shields because of the balanced kill times. Halo has always been about “lone wolfing” for me. A good player has nothing to fear.

Your completely missing the huge difference in skill required between Halo and CoD.

Agreed. Any teamwork that does happen online is accidental, seeing that 95% of players don’t callout/search alone/lone wolf (yes I did just make that number up but it’s probably fairly accurate). I’d actually go as far as a hybrid between CE/H2 kill times. A utility weapon with a perfect kill time of 1.0 second, with a high difficulty to compensate, and all other weapons balanced accordingly.
