Kill medal.

Bring back the kill medal.

Some of the reasons as to why I think they should come back.

  • Reach had a multiple kill medals. I see people using reach as a ‘perfect medal’ game, they had a headshot kill medal, as well as random medals for simple kills like: Kill someone in the air with a jetpack, kill someone USING a jetpack while he’s in the air, kill someone while they are reloading, etc. - Knowing you got the kill will stop people from advancing forward If you’ve already killed the team on the other side of the battle, why would you continue to advance? You wouldn’t normally, unless you were gathering ammo/grenades, or weapons. Knowing you killed the other person while he was rushing behind cover will stop unnecessary advancement, or camping on the other side of the battle. - Knowing you got the kill will stop ammo/grenade waste/spam. Ever just keep throwing grenades, or continue shooting a dead body because you didn’t see the kill medal? Knowing most of you guys have played Halo CE-Halo: Reach, you have ran into that problem. Granted, you always got the medal from Reach forward for grenade kills. - You allowed for the toggle of Spartan Chatter, why not the same with medals? Due to the criticism by the players here on the forums, and those at the live demos, they reduced the chatter, added a ‘on/off’ toggle in the menu, and removed/tweaked other suggestions to make things easier for us players. We can do the same with the medals, either a ‘turn on/off all medals’ or a ‘turn on all/turn off simple medals’, because they also took out the assist medal. - The addition of the kill medal will keep the game running smoothly, and faster paced. I believe that with the kill medal put back on the game, it will allow for us to keep the games running quickly, smoothly, and stop unnecessary stalemates from those who are worried they didn’t get the kill.
This is just my thoughts on the matter, feel free to make a comment below, please keep it constructive, even if it’s disagreeing with me.

Its funny. Seeing many people complain about the time to kill then i see you with ideas to make the TTK even faster. How ironic.

I think some medals are justified for certain situations
For example, in H2 H3 and I believe reach, you only got a sniper kill medal if you killed an opponent with a headshot, I don’t believe there needs to be a generic kill medal AND a headshot medal for the same weapon
Random weapon kills such as hydra kill rocket kill etc etc just seem gratuitous and unnecessary

That being said I do like some of the new medals, for example the perfect kill medal, or the hat trick medal, special medals that “typically” don’t happen often

I honestly think the solution to all of the things you just mentioned is putting more importance on team communication and situational awareness

But you got a sniper medal, regardless of the kill. I think Halo 4 is the one with a sniper, and a headshot medal.

What are you talking about? Knowing if you got the kill has nothing to do with TTK being quicker, what are you spouting off about?

Perfect kill was a medal before H5? can someone please verify this because as far as I know its a unique medal to H5
Unless you mean the perfection medal which was of course getting 15 or more kills and no deaths ona slayer game type variant an winning that game

Confirmation that you got the kill comes in the in game news/update feed which is part of the situational awareness I was talking about

It shows who killed who and how in the kill feed, which is broadcast globally. This alone negates every point you tried to make.

Half of what you said if not more kept pushing the idea of stalemates out of the gameplay which in turn would mean you would know when or when not to advance. This only increases the time to kill as you don’t have to worry about whether or not you got the kill which would cause the player to have to take the time to make a judgment call. I don’t disagree with you im just pointing it out.

Perfection: Going 20+ kills and 0 deaths is old.
Perfect Kill is new, which iirc from beta was for landing 4/5 headshots in a row on an opponent without missing and getting the kill with a precision weapon.

I take TTK as the time it takes for a weapon to kill someone, not adding in the people hiding, or running away, etc. My apologies, I took what you said a different way than you intended.

It’s not that hard to tell if you got the kill or not in Halo 5. Especially now that you have the kill feed at the bottom left of the screen that you can easily check and the little sound it makes with the hitmarkers when you kill someone. You don’t need the kill medal.

Halo 1,2,3 and Reach did just fine when you got a generic kill. You didn’t need to have a medal to tell you.

The only medal I would agree on returning in Arena gameplay would be the assist medal. Makes it easier to tell if a teammate cleaned up your kill if he got away.

15+ kills is perfection, and you’re right, I misread what you said as perfection, not perfect kill.

Is there no longer a kill feed?

There is, but considering it’s small and requires you to read what happened, which in the middle of a fire fight might not be the most advantageous, I’d like to be able to turn off/on the medals. Thanks for your sarcastic comment though buttercup.

Wasn’t sarcastic there, skippy; I was legitimately unsure.

From what I’ve seen the killfeed is still there, it’s just really small, to the left above the radar, and honestly doesn’t seem like a great way to check if you got a kill in the middle of an intense game. Granted, there are plenty of slow gaming moments that would allow you to use it, but then again, if it’s that slow, chances are you don’t even need to use it. I just really don’t think a kill feed is better than a medal for the person GETTING the kill, although it certainly helps the teammates of those who got killed/doing the killing. My apologies on taking your comment sarcastic, this board is full of sarcasm.

It’s no smaller than a medal pop up, and as I said, it’s broadcast globally. Whereas medals are not. So you’d still have to communicate to your team “He’s already dead.” Which isn’t including the possibility of them not returning the same courtesy to you because either A) They don’t have a mic B) They have the medals disabled or C) The don’t care whether you live or die.

From what I saw from the Gamescom footage, the audio cue you get from a kill is still present as well. So even if you aren’t looking at the feed because of heavy combat, you can still hear the sound file play.

1. It inherently IS smaller than a medal pop up, and as I said, the medals are just being turned off/on, NOT turning off or replacing the kill feed. Where did I say this?
C. Most teammates don’t give a ~ if I live or die, that’s sort of the point of randoms.
2. I want the medal. I don’t care if it counts at the end or not. I just want the frickin’ medal to show me I killed someone. WHY is this such a big deal? You won’t even frickin’ see it if you turn off the medals. WHY does it matter?

  1. Actually, if you want to get technical a medal measures only 75x75 pixels. Wheras a line in the killfeed measures 330x30 pixels. The killfeed has a larger displayed area per line than a medal. I never said disable killfeed either. Please reread.

C. Then why try to make it a point in your original argument about how it would be beneficial to teamplay and all this other BS.

  1. Now you show your true colors.

Increasing the number of medals just decrease their value. I can’t imagine anyone having that much difficulty understanding if they’ve killed a player or not after a couple of games, if they’ve had problems before. Was never a fan of the plain kill medal in the first place.

Also, wouldn’t this be a perfect time to tell you that you’re only being nostalgic, or that you should play older Halos?
