"Kill Assist" Threshold?

Hey all,

So after playing a few Warzone matches over the past few days, I’ve been wondering something.

What determines whether you get an “assist” on a kill? There have been times where I will hit a target with maybe one round, and I’ll get credit for the assist. Others (especially bosses), I’ll put round after round into them (rockets, plasma cannon, etc) and when they finally go down, I don’t get any credit for the kill, only the “your teammates have downed ______”.

There have been a couple times where I’ve seemingly done most of the work, and yet don’t get credit.

Is there some sort of pre-determined damage threshold you have to hit to get credit for the kill? Am I just unlucky? Or does it depend on the type of enemy/type of damage? (I.e. I take down the shields on an Elite Ultra boss solo, but if someone else headcaps him I don’t get any credit. This has happened a few times to me.)

Just trying to satisfy my own curiosity.

Honestly, I can’t tell you.

But, from what I’ve learned, it seems timed, where if you don’t get a shot in on the last 4.5 seconds or something, even if you’ve done the most dame he, you get no credit

Yeah, Halo 5 is like that. I hate it how does that, but 343 makes it like that because it’s 343…

You have to get a shot within the first 5-10 seconds right before you kill the boss. Or right when it’s about to die, try shooting the boss with anything.

Interesting…thanks for the replies!

I honestly hadn’t thought about it being purely a time thing, though that would make sense. I’ll see if I can test it out when I get home from work.

It’s definitely annoying, but workable…
