I know we’re all speculating whether or not this game is Halo 5 or another project, Kevin Grace was in an interview (written) and here’s what he said: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=166367
I’m still certain it’s Halo 5. Why get our hopes up that the next major installment is coming, and then disappoint us later? That would be bad marketing and communication on 343’s part.
If it’s about Chief, which is implied in the Teaser Trailer, then it should be Halo 5.
What else could it be?
In the Prologue to Halo 4, there were several Spartans who looked just like the Chief.
Maybe this is a story about other Spartan II’s.
Maybe at some point between Halo 3 and 4?
One of the guys from Microsoft shortly after E3 said the same thing. The announcement for Halo Xbox One wasn’t necessarily an announcement for Halo 5 but to tell people that Halo is coming on the Xbox one with dedicated servers and 60 FPS in 2014.

By that logic, we could face a time skip before H5, where nothing too story altering happens, thus creating a spin-off, while still using the main character.
I’ve heard speculation that it’s going to be a Halo 2 Anniversary, despite the trailer.
2014 may be a coincidence, but maybe not.

So halo 5 then is basically what your saying.
It’s Halo 5.

Yea, but it’s not part of the main story. I want H5.
If the trailer is of any hint to what the story of this game will be… and if the theories surrounding it are close to correct… then this game’s story will be big and important.
Thats not the kind of thing you put into a spinoff, or else the main game will have a gigantic gap in plots from main installments.
Even Corrin Yu and Don Mattric referred to it as Halo 5. There’s no question here. The reason they haven’t announced the name is because they haven’t announced the game. The trailer was for Halo, not for any specific game. The only wildcard is if they want to add a subtitle.
“We’re not done with Masterchief, obviously the big teaser we had at E3 there’s more fun coming for him. Whether that’s Halo 5 whether that’s something else we’ll talk about that later, but we’re not done with chief in the shooters not by a long shot.”
The fact that he said were not done with chief by a long shot is what makes me really think this won’t be 5, maybe it will be a subtitled game, then we’ll have 5, then another subtitled game, then 6, that’s just what I think will happen though.

I really hope not. I know there are a lot of story elements, but that’s just milking the franchise.

More Halo = More happiness.
Even if the games aren’t incredible.

Perhaps if 343 truly takes their time with each game and makes significant improvements. I don’t want the same game every year.

If it were about the other SII’s, then why are we seeing this “other Spartan II” holding Cortana’s empty datachip?
Personally I think any game that stars the Master Chief should be a numbered game and anything that takes place in between should follow different characters.

Chief’s a good character… but he isn’t the only one.
We also don’t want Chief milked. Don’t want to come a time where a lot of people are saying “too much Chief”.
FPS starring master chief set after Halo 4 using a new engine (it has to what with the new console). Its Halo 5 whether that ends up being the final title or not.

Well it depends on much story there is to tell, if they make 4 more Chief games where the story is spread thin, that would kind of suck. On the other hand they could make 4 more chief games packed full of story, which would be totally expectable in my opinion. It really all depends on how much they want to do with the Chief before his grand finale.
