Halo 5 has a lot going for it, but it’s starting to show some wear around the edges. If it really is another year and a half minimum before Halo Infinite releases, here are some common-sense moves 343 could make to make sure Halo 5 doesn’t go stale before the new game releases.
1: Firefight has grown a little stale and remains unbalanced from round to round. A minor tuning update to make certain rounds more playable and to increase diversity would be fantastic. Maybe it’s just me, but I haven’t had a Phantom boss fight in months, and I really enjoyed them. If they were removed as I suspect, I’d like to see them make a comeback, or at the very least rotate in.
2: Cut the number of playlists to the following to ensure smooth matchmaking times: In Social Arena- Super Fiesta, BTB, BTB Objective, Infection, and the weekly rotated playlist. In Ranked Arena- Slayer, Objective Slayer, SWAT, FFA, and Elimination, perhaps with a rotating playlist of its own. This cuts out redundant playlists like Team Arena, Core Play, and Quick Play in favor of allowing players to get to the types of games they enjoy more directly.
3: Complete the req roster. A third Grenade Launcher, a second and third Sentinel Beam, and a potential second Plasma Turret and Splinter Turret variant would be lovely. A third Phaeton- perhaps on par with the Wasp in terms of power, weaker than the current Phaeton- would also round out the vehicle list nicely. I’m not even asking that these items be particularly useful- I just want something new to shake up the game play a bit. The Overtime update was quite a while ago, and it didn’t really give us much new to work with.
4: Put more game types on more maps. Don’t limit, for example, Super Fiesta to the same few dev maps and a few throwback Forge offerings. Variety is the spice of Halo right now, and I think we could use more spice.
5: Maybe another special armor or something- a Halo Infinite armor and emblem to get people back into 5 and hyped for Infinite.
What do you all think? I would love to see any of these things done to keep Halo 5 rolling!
EDIT: As is so kindly stated below, this is a clear and obvious hypothetical, which goes without saying. Furthermore, if people cannot address the ideas presented here instead of making a straw-man argument of the premise, I will happily delete this post myself. What was meant to be an enthusiastic exploration of improvements to Halo 5 is no longer fun for me after only an hour or so of ‘discussion’. Enjoy.

I’m not saying that there will be, only that there should be. Besides, they’ve surprised us before, and some of these things have been in the works before now anyway.

By that I mean they’ve explicitly said there won’t be any more major updates. It’s kind of like somebody saying, “I won’t buy you a puppy.” and you saying, “These are the things I want in a puppy and you’ve surprised me before with stuff.” I don’t particularly want the to deal with the aftermath when the people who convince themselves they are going to get a puppy when they’ve been explicitly told, ‘No’ come to realize that they aren’t.

Okay, fine. They won’t do this, but I think they should and that doing so will improve the game. I am expressing this in the hopes it will drive discussion and perhaps fuel ideas for the future. What’s your point?
I like your enthusiasm OP, it’s nice that people are keen to see things improve or see the current state of H5 continue in a healthy way until Infinite comes out as that would makes sense… pity things aren’t going to change…

I thought I’d already made it? My point is hypothetical discussions are fine, having the expectation that this will actually happen isn’t.

Thanks! That’s really what this was about- and who knows? If there are enough people interested in even a minor update, it might lead to some improvements! I’ll remain optimistic!

When did I say this was going to happen? When was I being more than optimistically hypothetical? And why do I continue to let this discussion get dragged off into the weeds on an unrelated tangent?
Please stick to addressing the ideas as initially presented based on their merit. This whole exchange is enough to remind me why I don’t tend to get engaged with this community anymore.

And so you should remain optimistic! I support improvements to H5 also as it seems to be going on a downwards spiral, there’s enough posts by players dissapointed at how this game is degrading and how bad it has become to play. Yes something needs to be done to ensure that H5 being the current Halo title can be sustained right up until Infinites release…

You made a post. I reminded you and any other person reading that there aren’t going to be more major updates. That is the way things are. You can discuss what you want out of a proposed update as much as you’d like, but at no point should be people expect (nor is there a particular reason to be hopeful for another.) Continuing to question reality isn’t really doing you any favors if all you want is to discuss the specific merits of your wishlist.
Also, please refrain from posting multiple times in a row. You can edit your posts to add information and respond to more than one person in a single post.
I guess there’s a fine line between minor changes here and there vs. full-on updating. Some of the things on the list seem completely reasonable to me - a few lines of code and suddenly my WZFF matches become a lot less repetitious. The more resource-intensive ideas do seem pretty unlikely given the amount of resources that are being put into MCC these days. Which is too bad, imo. I’d much rather see 5 get a life-span lengthener than MCC. But that’s just me.
WZFF tweaks sound somewhat reasonable. I’ve seen some Phantoms recently, but those rounds are basically break turrets, shoot until done.
What I would like is a nerf to Goblins. It’s ridiculous for them to have as much health as they have. I was on Apex 7 the other day, and I was dreading the final round because I thought it would be a Goblin. To my surprise, a Temple Wraith showed up. I didn’t even have time to approach the Wraith (from halfway across the beach) before it was down. Grunt mechs should not be way more powerful than tanks, especially since they have homing shots that blow up vehicles. (Yes, I know about the headshot trick. The cockpit still has more health than a Wraith, though).
I’d also like a fix to the kill Warden and kill Goblin commendations. As they stand now, you have to get the last hit on the boss to progress the commendation, so the boss takedown medal is misleading.
I don’t think we should have quite as few playlists as you say, but more objective and less slayer would be nice.
We don’t need more REQs.
I would like a map refresh. Maybe put more community members on reviewing Forge submissions? But there’s no reason to have so few maps in Super Fiesta ( I only get 5 or so maps). Most maps would work with the gametype.

The only reason I would cut down on the playlists is that so many are redundant right now, and it can lead to slower, less balanced matchmaking. I also like the idea of pure separation of objective and Slayer so that people like us that prefer one or the other can get the games they want more consistently.
I always want more reqs! More options, more customization, more everything!
I agree about the Super Fiesta maps. I’m getting tired of the maps in rotation; any map works with it, so why not have all of them?
