Keep up the armor criticism

I love that the first free helmet you unlock is at 81.
8 helmets before the first free one are locked behind the battlepass. Nice 343i

I have tried it; I have 6 hours so far, but that’s all I can stomach. I don’t support the monetization in the game, therefore I refuse to play it, but not only that, I actually don’t think the gameplay is any fun. We can argue all day about what makes Halo “Halo”, but at the end of the day, I don’t think this is anywhere close to Halo.

What I’ve come to realize is that; with Halo 4, Halo 5, and now Halo Infinite, I don’t like 343’s footprint on the franchise. It’s like COD; some people think Infinity Ward makes the better games, some people think it’s Treyarch, some people think it’s Sledgehammer, but at the end of the day people have their opinions and they’re gonna like what they like and dislike what they dislike, and for me; I dislike 343’s footprint on the franchise and I prefer Bungie’s (well except for whatever the ffuck Halo Reach is - that game feels like Bungie had a mid-life crisis).

Mechanically that game did feel like a testbed for Destiny.

I agree…like paying for the game isn’t enough anymore and they charge you for colors!? Everyone understands that correctly I hope…colors…absolutely ridiculous and greedy as can be…this world is expensive enough and some people play video games as a little escape from all the craziness of life and now video games are just as greedy as everything else in this world it’s sad…and I still can’t believe you have to pay for certain colors…incredible. Love the game…borderline addicted but come on…make a great game, charge 60 bucks for the damn thing and im ok with charging for every season, but to charge me for everything!? Im super pissed about it tbh. Guess I’ll just wreck kids using the items I unlock cuz I assure you, this guy will not be paying $10 dollars for a color…343.

But they’re not going to redo the entire customization suite to mock what Warframe or even something like Anthem does, not at least until a major title update. Unlocking coatings and visor for universal use is a flick of a switch, introducing full color pallets and reworking armor to have adjustable primary, secondary, and tertiary color keys is a huge undertaking when being done after the fact.

It’s am unreasonable ask. What isn’t is allowing unrestricted use of the coatings and visors. Across all cores, weapons, and vehicles, even cores from kits (HCS exclusives, etc). That would be a massive improvement to what they’re doing now and one that wouldn’t require any real work on their behalf.

But you’re not getting charged for anything, the entire MP suite is free. All modes, maps, playlists and matchmaking are available for free, without even the seasons pass. Only thing Infinite is charging anyone for is campaign, seasonal pass, and premium purchases, both of which are purely cosmetic.

I don’t think its unreasonable to ask and patiently wait for it to arrive in a major update. a good bandaid to the issue right now is to make it universal, no one likes being restricted when it comes to what colours can be used on what armour set, even with this Destiny-esque shader system.

To have it eventually become like Warframe’s wold be a wonderful compromise of Player expression and Monetisation of customisation, while I don’t expect that to happen tomorrow or in a few months, I expect it to happen in the future, as of right now however the coatings for the armours are not good.

as for weapons and vehicles, im fine with them as they are, since they’re tools you use and pick up throughout the match, temporary tools you can swap on the fly with other guns.

The Armour however is a permanent piece of player expression, to restrict it so severely is never a good things.

That argument of “its just cosmetic” doesn’t work when there is clearly a better alternative out there when it comes to monetisation, compared to the one we currently have.

Its why I keep on referencing either Warframe or Anthem, they are good alternative examples of monetising colour customisation without taking away the freedom of expression on our armours. one of them is even a FTP game.

You’re taking what I said out of its context. The comment I was replying to is talking about being charged for colors after buying a game, no one has been charged for Halo MP. I’m not excusing the game from criticism, just correcting a factually inaccurate statement that seems to mirror the attitude that quite a few have about this games seasons pass approach and premium shop.

Keep in mind that even though Warframe is fully FTP, that game effectively nickels and dimes the hell out of the player by making you pay premium currency for damn near everything, including weapon, frame, gear slots. You cannot functionally progress in the game if you do not eventually buy platinum or take part in their market and earn some via trade. Warframe is also a HUGE abuser of FOMO where premium purchasesare concerned, so in some senses it gets a lot right, in others there are things I’d just as soon see stay away from Halo.

While this end of Infinite needs a lot of QOL tuning, I think its biggest hurdle is that this is just so starkly new to Halo, and that feeling of irritation is being fueled all the more by a bit of misinformation (people asserting the game actually costs money, or that what 343i is doing here is grossly out of step with other FTP/seasons pass approaches) and those are things that won’t go away without a lot of communication from 343i and a fair amount of reasonable concessions from the fanbase.

While you are not charged for participating in the multiplayer, that doesn’t excuse the way the free base armour core everyone gets, is grossly monetised, while the Reach armour core is locked behind the premium BP, in that case its fine since its Reach themed, so it makes sense.

Mark VII as of right now is just sorely limiting if you don’t pay for em.

the Platinum currency is used as a time skipper, yes, but you can also trade for it in game, so you don’t have to pay for that currency, ive gotten platinum by just trading prime parts.
the FOMO only comes in with the Prime versions of the warframes.

ive also progressed fine in warframe without having to resort to platinum, though that might also help that the game encourages breaks, so I don’t feel as exhausted by it, but just because of the faults in the game alone, does not excuse the fact that a good compromise exists.

it also doesn’t help that with how it was advertised, the coating system gave the impression of a Shader system like Destiny, a preset colour scheme you can assign to any armour core, I was on board with this.

It just amazes me that consumers in general have been conditioned in such a way that they’ll accept being ripped off. All of this monetization solely exists for corporate benefit, and it directly hurts the game. But hey it’s “free to play” I guess…

I thought they said it was going to have a lot of customisation but apparently not.

Oh it does, if you cough up enough . Its ridiculous

Hey in my opinion I agree but they should add a core that is Called Custom and that should let you make a non lore accurate core for MP

yeah the customization in this is extremely limiting. Armor corse was the worst idea ever as if the colour coating wasnt bad enough the armor cores add a hole layer of restriction to the customization 343 promised us the most robust customization ever and what we got was one of the worst customization systems ever so much for my CQB helmet with Samuira shoulders and belt with Mark 7 body and reach legs guess ill never be able to mix and match like a real Halo game

Surely it’s accepted this is where the problem lies.

I said all this during the flights. And the forums and sycophants ridiculed me about “ITS FREE 2 PLAY”. Wonder how many of the people complaining NOW defended this BS during the flights. It was clear from the start the customization was too curated to make the player feel unique.

They absolutely need to unlock armour pieces from being restricted to cores, rn everyone looks the same and it really feels like it takes forever to make your Mark VII look even slightly different

I originally didn’t really care because I was never into cosmetics and figured I’d just use whatever was available. After all their talk about focusing on customization and improving on reach and MCC customization they released with something that seems to be trying to do the opposite lol. I was happy with Halo 3s when it came out. You had to earn certain armor by actually completing certain things and I could choose my own colors with whatever armor.

There’s a saying in the automotive community “built not bought”. Basically saying you accomplished a large majority of your vehicles look and feel through your own wrenching and custom work and not just a dealership or check. I feel like there should be at least some recognition for certain pieces being earned and not just purchased.

I hope they let us just choose a helmet, whatever color for whatever body part and swap out the armor pieces as I see fit including attachments.

I also don’t know what “stay tuned” means. If it isn’t even available why show it.

I was under the impression there would be at least a couple options at the start but it’s mostly paywalled.

Stay tuned means its a cash shop item
