343 still hasnt even aknowledged our feedback of this disgraceful customization system. And likly wont until its impossible to ignore any longer.
My main issues are these
Armor cores are restictive, theres so little options to customize that everyone looks identical. Either this needs to go or there needs to be a way to earn credits.
Armor coatings are bound by core. There is absolutely no reason i should have to unlock a coating more than once. Ffs its just colors why do they need to be paywalled, its just greedy
There is blatant false advertising. The armor for the Tenrai event that has been on all the promo art for a free event, the kabuto armor, ISNT EVEN FREE. Why the heck did you use it to promote a free event if you were gonna paywall it? Thats a load of bs.
At first my main issue with the game was progression. But every day things seem to be getting worse. Mcc was better in terms of freedom, reach was in a league of its own. Being f2p is no excuse for this. 343 you should feel ashamed.
I definitely hope they address these problems; they’ve been pretty good about answering feedback thus far, albeit slowly. But game design is a slow process; gotta be patient I suppose.
Oh 100% i dont expect it to be fixed next week for the event. I just want them to aknowledge there is a problem. Honestly if the coatings were universal, kits gave you parts instead of an uneditable skin, and there was some kind of ability to gain credits over time id be able to overlook the core system and cash shop.
They’ve been so hard headed about the coating system since they first revealed it years ago. I don’t think they will change it tbh. I agree with all of your criticisms btw. Especially when it’s so hard to get coatings in the first place via the battle pass- to not be able to apply them across armor cores is such a kick in the nuts I just got to 11 and got that green and white coating. But can only use it on mark VII not mark V which is the core I’m progressing on now. So frustrating
I fully agree. They said this game would be even better than Reach in terms of armor customization, but it’s actually significantly worse than Reach and even H3 MCC. My idea for coatings is for them to make color palettes and textures unlockable/purchasable so we have color freedom. Similar to the systems Anthem & Warframe has. They could still monetize it.
Cores just should restrict armor mixing, period. The only exception should be for specific pieces they know will cause clipping issues. Anything else should be free game, like it always has been.
I don’t necessary hate the cores but I do wish we could use armor on all cores. However I like the lore behind it. What I don’t like is that the coatings, and visor colors aren’t available on all cores, when it should be. I also believe there are even emblems that aren’t available all cross the board. I believe if I pay money for a visor color or armor coating it should be accessible to all cores and not limit to a core or kit. If they want set coating then they should treat them like they have done weapon skins. Example like how they had different paint jobs or patterns on the Halo 5 armor. Then with those paint jobs/patterns have set colors like they have with the emblems. Emblems should have more color chooses as well.
I totally agree with the armor color criticism. It is more petty and greedy when you think about it. MCC and Halo Reach don’t have to go through that ridiculous process.
Yes please there’s so much else that can be done to monetize customization without also restricting us as much as the current system does.
Please 343, allows us to change our own colors, sell us the textures, extra color palletes, decals, patterns, special coats, etc. But just let us have some control over how we look like in past games.
Please get rid of the armor core locking out certain pieces so we can have more customization and do more and have more reason to buy things from the cash shop
It’s never going to work like that. they have the fomo shop front from fortnite, you will never be allowed those freedoms. monetisation like this has been researched and honed to an incredible degree and they know exactly how to extract money from you. Freedom to choose would result in less money. Can’t you see it? Literally will never happen. This is late stage capitalism, and it will only accelerate.
First of all you are misinformed, because the Tenrai event is 100% free…Not sure where you got the info that it was paywalled.
Second, I much prefer the armor cores to be restricted. Design-wise it makes sense, lore-wise it makes sense. That being said I won’t fight for it because I don’t really care all that much.
Yoroi is 100% free, please don’t spread misinformation if at all possible
This requires a type of solution I like to call “turning knobs and flipping switches”. The elements of the solution are already there, they just need to turn knobs or flip switches. The only reason we’re dealing with this is either an arbitrary creative decision or corporate pressure.
There is no technical reason for a coating to be armor core specific. None at all. They just need to flip a switch and boom.
There might be a technical reason, of their own making, for gear to be armor core specific. This might be trickier than flipping a switch because the armor core 3D models may be designed to fit the gear, but time will tell how this plays out.
But unique armor core like the samurai armor? It’s highly unlikely that’s going to get extra pieces for that core. It’s basically a skin. A skin that can’t accept other coatings. The problems just cascade from there.

Fractures: Tenrai will start next week on the 23rd. There’s only one Tenrai Event pass and it is entirely comprised of Yoroi armor and attachments. The Kabuto helmet is one of four helmets that are part of the Tenrai Event pass.
Thing is, I don’t think giving players more options with what pieces could be mixed and matched would lose them money. Be honest, would you be more willing to buy an armor coating if it was locked to one armor core, or if it worked for all? I’d be more willing to buy one that worked for all. I think I’m not alone. Also, if they did what another user proposed and had customizable coatings with colors and textures you could buy, well, they’d get a lot more money out of me at least. Just because they doing something for monetary reasons doesn’t mean it’s making them more money than alternative which gives players more freedom.
