One of the things I enjoyed about Halo 2 was that in every Cut Scene it showed you with the weapon you were using. I Get that Chief has a thing for the AR and All but there is just no way he is getting through every missions in Halo CE,3,4, and 5 with just an AR. Show Chief with the weapons he was actually using, please.
That was one of the things I disliked about Halo 3. No matter what weapon you had at the end of the mission, the Chief would always mysteriously have an AR in his hands in the following cutscene. Some would say that it is a petty and small thing to dislike about the game compared to others, but it was quite lore breaking in a way.
That would be cool again

While we’re at it, how about the inclusion of variable opening cutscene battles, as seen at the start of Keyes and ONI Base? The one on The Covenant was static.
Also, it’d be cool to see in-game stuff appear in cutscenes again.
In HCE, H3, and H4 (a cutscene on Requiem) you could have live NPCs. In H2, only vehicles showed up, rarely NPCs (after Tartarus’ death). Not sure about ODST/Reach, can’t remember atm.

I agree. Little things like that would be cool in cut scenes. Having the weapon you were using appear and/or your customized armor showing up in cut scenes like Halo Reach. I’d imagine that the protagonist is going to be Master Chief but for co-op, players could have the option to fight in their customized armor rather than playing as a member of Blue Team.
I have to disagree.
This would mean that 343i would have to re-do every cutscene again and again and again with every possible weapon,
which IMO, is a waste of resources since the AR has always been Chief’s to-go weapon anyways.
Well that depends largely on how they make the cut scenes. If it is rendered in engine that could happen but then again the animations might all be jacked up because even the MC wouldn’t hold a rocket launcher the same way he would hold an AR.
The cut scenes are not that big of a deal anyways. They are just there to fill in the gaps of the story that can’t be told by the game play mechanics. Much like in cinematography of the mantra show, don’t tell for narratology you can take this a step further as play, don’t show (or do, don’t show). Now could weapon in cut scenes be a consideration, sure perhaps those working on the cinematic should keep that in mind, but in the end it is just to complete the story. It is not like the numerous deaths and restarts at checkpoint ruin the story anyways, the Master Chief is an avatar type character.
I really liked that in Halo 2 but the difference is that the displayed weapon could be the primary one unlike in Halo 2 where if player had a heavy weapon the secondary weapon would be displayed, with exception to that if player had 2 heavy weapons the cutscene weapon became SMG. At least when I played/play it on the original copy on Xbox.
Though few edges that pre-selected cutscene weapons have are such things that it displays the canon choice of weapon for the character & usually it fits better in the situation that has been designed.
So the other option is player focused while the other is focused on the situation and canon itself.
So I could basically be fine with the choice either way.
i think this would be cool, but ultimately wouldn’t bother me if not included.

In Halo CE. if you were really good, you could fly the Banshee into the control room, while your partner opened up the final door before the cutscene, then the cutscene would start, putting Chief in the control room, right in front of the door. Well, if you were flying your Banshee up and boosting towards the door before the cutscene, it would still be carrying that momentum, and could actually kill Master Chief in the cutscene. The cutscene would still continue, however, and all of the camera shots were still there, just no Chief! And none of Chief’s lines would play either. It was so funny. Just dead Chief on the bridge while the cutscene played.

Not only that, if they did so, then they would be wasting time that they could be using to make good gameplay or a good story

Motion Capturing software makes all of this much easier now than it was back in 2004. They wouldn’t have to do with every weapon as many weapons are held the same way. They would have one for assault rifle sized weapons, one Sniper sized weapons, one Pistol sized weapons, and one Rocket Launcher sized weapons. Also The People that do Motion capture and Cut scenes animation only do that part of the game. They don’t have anything to do with gameplay or story telling.

Actually, it all depends on how they do cutscenes. They could simply shoot the scene once and then program the cutscene to register every available weapon in the mission you’re on. Now if they do it where, as you said; they do the cutscene several times, then yes, that would be a major waste in resources and time. But there’s a lot of things that are possible today with our current technology.
The choice of utilizing the Assault Rifle has probably got more to do with the fact they tried to make Chief as basic as possible. Considering we were meant to project ourselves onto him, it only makes sense that’s he’s practically a blank sheet kind of character by design. Army green as the basic armor color, MJOLNIR Mark V/VI armor being his preferred armor, and the AR/BR as his main weapon.
Hopefully that’s will happen that would be more realistic.
It’s not really an issue, to be honest, and it could be difficult, depending on the weapon you have equipped. The cutscenes are canon, whereas gameplay isn’t. So the weapons we see Chief with in the cutscenes are the actually weapons he has.
I don’t think this would be possible with the cinematic Halo 4 style of cutscene, but if they’re going for a cutscene rendered in-game, there’s no reason for this to not be implemented other than time restraints.
On a pragmatic level I agree. But I also find the AR/Chief iconography to be pretty awesome. And while a lot of players find it immersion breaking or annoying to see the AR in every cutscene regardless of what they were using (totally understandable), I actually find myself a bit charmed by it.

YES, this is the kind of attention to detail I love, small things make a big impact on immersion.
Metro Exodus is a great representation of that
If any of the cutscenes feature live-fire, then you having any possible weapon could be… interesting.
Chief turns around to let a few bursts of his AR out and… oops. Energy Sword. swoosh. swoosh.

Then they should not have any cutscenes feature live-fire. Live-fire should be in the -Yoink- gameplay. lol If Master Chief is gonna shoot, then let us be the one to shoot. We don’t play the game to watch the Spartans shoot in a cutscene.
