A feature that I really loved in Halo 5 was the ability to issue orders. Tell your squad to pick up weapons, target an enemy, all that stuff. I really hope they keep this mechanic in infinite, but extend it to account for marines too. Imagine how much more enjoyable fighting alongside marines would be if you could order them to prioritize targets. What are you guys thoughts on this? Do you think this mechanic would be good to have in infinite? I’m talking strictly about giving orders to marines, spartan fire teams are a conversation for another thread.
It is definitely a mechanic I would prefer to be renovated rather then removed. A lot of people hated it, but they mostly found it useless for commands and frustrating for the “downed” mechanic.
That being said, I would like a way to organize the marines with what vehicles they go into. Especially after playing Halo 3 recently, it sounds like an excellent idea.
I thought the idea was good in H5, but it ended up being a total gimmick. Your squad never actually followed commands other than the one for telling them to go away to the other side of the map. Even so, they never stayed there and came back within a few seconds.
If it worked right in Infinite (something H5 has a problem doing properly for a lot of its content), then I’m sure everyone would have a more immersive experience. Being able to coordinate marines is something that would build upon the older mechanics of Halo, eg., marines jumping into the same vehicle as you, stopping for you if they have an empty seat, etc.
I think the squad mechanics were a good idea not very well implemented. The main inspiration for the squad thing was from Star Wars Republic Commando, where the orders were essential to the combat. In Halo 5 you can play the entire campaign without giving a single order, because it is not always necessary and the AI is not very intelligent too.
I still would like to see it returning in some way. Even though you playing alone as the Chief, you can tell Marines or other allies to do something at your command at some point.
Needs more tha. One button for the commands, and better ai teammates
Agree completely to refine the feature more. they could even have a unused button pull up a command screen with multiple commands (IE. hold position, fall back, move forward, cover fire). It was a very promising and overlooked feature in H5 IMO.
Although its implementation left a lot to be desired. Cant really say if it will be in Infinite. It honestly all depends on the story, if chief is alone then the feature would kind of be useless

What about giving commands to marines that you’re fighting with? I don’t really think we’re going to see much if any spartan squads in the campaign, but if we’re fighting alongside marines then I think it would be great to be able to give them orders.

I’m basing my hope off of the very first Infinite trailer, we saw some marines in it so I’m really hoping we see them in gameplay. I loved fighting alongside marines in the Bungie games so much. We really haven’t had as many experiences with marines in the reclaimer saga so far.
