Keep sprint and AAs (Just not in Matchmaking)

Lets face it; we cannot get rid of Sprint and Armor Abilities, nor should we. Too much of the best parts of the Casual/Social community rely on it. So many of the amazing Custom Games and Mini Games rely on having Armor Abilities and sprint to work, and these Mini-Games have become such an integral part of our community that we cant afford to lose them… However the fact remains that Armor abilities and Sprint are ruining matchmaking.

I think that we should keep Sprint and Armor abilities and Custom Loadouts in Halo, but take them out of matchmaking, or put them on maps as if they were power weapons. Maybee a playlist could be added that allowed Armor abilities. This way everyone can have their ideal environment for playing.

I agree they should stay in custom games, I have had a lot of fun in custom games on halo 4 with sprint and AA’s. There just not good on the competitive side of halo.

I see the phrase, “Keep it in Customs and it’s K!” far too often. Eventually what you’re gonna end up doing is making customs completely alien from Matchmaking. They wont even feel somewhat the same.

Customs is not an Area 51 that we can dump failed or unpopular concepts into.

Have you played Custom Games? They’re nothing like matchmaking.

> Customs is not an Area 51 that we can dump failed or unpopular concepts into.

Agreed, and moreover, sprint and AAs are pretty core and big game mechanics to not include in any default modes.

Indeed I have. But essentially with this dumping of Infinity elements into Customs, you are creating Halo 4 inside of a limited portion of Halo 5. I get that speed halo isn’t something you’d ever encounter in MM, but when you are moving around or in combat it still feels like real Halo (in 3/Reach).

The day we have Golf in Matchmaking is the day I concede my point.

I’m surprised Speed or Nom Nom isn’t in MM. They should be in Action Sack if you ask me, considering that’s the point of the whole playlist.

Besides, didn’t we have Haloball and soccer in AS during Reach’s “Heydays”.

Action Sack has always been the scraps that rarely show up in Custom Games lobbies. Never has the actually really fun and well-enjoyed gametypes made it to Action Sack.

We had Hockey, but it got boring after they removed the ability for players to endlessly stab each other in the back to encourage people to focus on the objective. I don’t really remember Haloball, was that the annoying gametype where you sent Holograms into goals?

It was the terrible one where you flung golfballs into skiiball targets, yes.

Was it that one? I think I remember playing it once or twice, and that one wasn’t that difficult or bad to play. It’s a damn shame that 343i killed off the Action Sack playlist in Reach, that had more variety and fun than all of Halo 4.

I’d almost agree if Halo 4 didn’t introduce me to flood. But even so it’s a damn shame.

Armor abilities are something unique to the halo franchise and a good selling point for it. Removing them would be a very bad move I’m confident 343 won’t make.

They already removed dual wielding and Equipment. At this point Halo developers can do whatever the -blam!- they feel like.

> Agreed, and moreover, sprint and AAs are pretty core and big game mechanics to not include in any default modes.

1. Turn sprint back into an AA.

2. Put Equipment and AAs on the same button, and allow players to only have one or the other at a time.

3. Standard Matchmaking gets Equipment only. Customs gets Equipment and AAs.

Armor Abilities are a (detrimental) evolution of the Equipment feature, so if Equipment is used in Matchmaking, then the absence of Armor Abilities won’t feel as significant. (Some of the AAs can also be used in Campaign every so often, so that new players have the opportunity to get used to how they work.) If Sprint isn’t its own feature (and if it’s kept entirely out of Campaign), then its omission shouldn’t feel so major either.

And now we can avoid throwing the baby out with the bathwater. People who need AAs for mini-games have them, as do people who need Sprint to recreate anything Reach-era (e.g. Alpha Zombies) – the baby is safe. However, AAs and sprint will no longer undermine standard gameplay as they have since Reach – the bathwater is gone.

Bungie originally removed duel-wielding and equipment not 343.

> Have you played Custom Games? They’re nothing like matchmaking.

Yes but you’re missing his main point.

Custom games, as he so well put it, isn’t just a trashcan where we throw anything anyone disagrees with into. A line has to be drawn somewhere, you can’t feasibly have ‘Halo’ in Matchmaking and have Garry’s Mod levels of customization in customs.

The phrase “just put it in custom games” is so overused.

Anyways I wouldn’t be opposed to a sprint toggle, but the game is going to suck if the maps are designed with sprint in mind yet don’t utilize it, or vice versa.

> Action Sack has always been the scraps that rarely show up in Custom Games lobbies. Never has the actually really fun and well-enjoyed gametypes made it to Action Sack.

It amazes me how out of touch the developers are with the customs community.

But to be fair, you can’t regulate something like “cops and robbers” without honor rules, which wouldn’t be feasible in a matchmaking settings. Some games will only work in a custom lobby.

For the sake of machinimas, if people are even going to bother anymore, they should stay in customs.

I’ve yet to see any reason why Custom games shouldn’t have as many options as possible. Halo 4 removed simple things like forced player colors, I don’t see why Halo 5 should remove all the options that were unpopular in MM from Customs. You don’t see shield vampirism/leeching in MM, and if it was it sure wouldn’t be popular, but that doesn’t justify the removal of it. Same with Personal Ordnance, granted there’s only a single gametype from H4 Customs that incorporated it successfully, but I can’t think of any Customs in the past that used shield vampirism/leeching in a successful and fun way.

They should definitely put them in customs.

Why should they take things like sprint and thruster pack out of custom games, when it allows people to make fun gametypes with obstacle courses and things like that.

Why would any one want to limit customs?
