Keep in mind, no one asked for a free multiplayer

They’d keep a lot more players if they’d quit farting in the elevator

Players wallets are first

You should keep in mind that neither you nor any other users of this forum needs to be asked.

On the other hand no one from us needs to ask them anything.
I don’t know about you pal, but frankly, I can’t recall that anyone ever asked neither 343i nor Bungie to have the MP not being F2P.

I mean I bought the BP without hesitation, without looking at what all is included, and I’m kind of regretting it honestly.

I bought the $100 credit bundle, and I’ve not spent a single one aside from the BP and like an impulse purchase of a sticker pack on day one, again impulsive before I even mathed out how much that translated to in real world currency. Beyond that, I don’t intend to purchase anything else until some pricing adjustments are made.

Play the game for fun is the best advice I can give anyone.

If 343 sees people are playing the game, but not buying anything, there’s bound to be change.

Free to play invites nonstop cheaters. Which stinks.

This is the exact kind of attitude that encourages and enables companies like 343 to get away with extremely scummy F2P monetisation. You’ve just dropped roughly double the amount of money on this game as you would have done if it was a regular full-price “premium” title, and that’s before factoring in the campaign (which you may or may not also be purchasing) which IS the price of a ‘premium’ title but with the multiplayer ripped out and sold piecemeal for way over the odds. It doesn’t matter if you never spend a single penny on Infinite ever again because they’ve already managed to rinse your wallet for way more profit than they would have if they adopted a sensible consumer-friendly attitude.

Everyone who touched Halo 5 also remembers it.

You’re right now one asked for it but the most popular games tend to be the ones that are free.

I did. I wanted Halo to be F2P to remove as many barriers as possible for people to be able to play. I also wanted it on as many platforms as possible, not just xbox. I can’t see it happening but it would be awesome if they got it on PS as well.

I would guess that these issues aren’t directly caused by the game being free to play. If a monetization system exists, it’s obvious that the developers wish that a such system is as accessible as possible and we can simply see how the monetization systems across the Halo games has evolved.

If I recall correctly, the first such system was a map pack disk for Halo 2. Since then, the monetization system evolved to include items in an external marketplace (incl. map packs).

In Halo 3 and Halo Reach, there existed a Marketplace where few premium items could be purchased like Map Packs (nowdays free) and some Xbox 360 Avatar items, Picture Packs and Xbox 360 Background themes.

When we instead look at Halo 4, there existed few additional premium items for the game and the external marketplace got a bit more accessible by placing it in the main menu. The store included similar items to Halo 3 and Halo Reach with the addition of few premium player customization items. However, the in game customization items and Map Packs has been made free post launch similar to Halo 3 and Halo Reach.

The next step in the evolution of monetization in Halo was Halo 5 with a much more accessible system with an internal store instead of an external store. However, the game had the distinctive difference that none of the Map Packs where behind a pay wall, the introduction of an unlock system where you could unlock most of the items either be purchased by real world money or through an in game currency that was obtained by playing the game. This meant that the player could indirectly purchase in game benefits like single XP/RP Boosts or single use items in Warzone and to speed up the unlock process through your wallet.

The next an current step in the evolution with monetization in Halo is Halo Infinite (if Halo Wars 2 is ignored) with an in game currency that can only be obtained with real world money and are used to purchase premium items. This includes exclusive customization items, battle passes and tokens that makes it possible to swap challenges, increase xp payouts or speed up the process to unlock season based items and to get an additional challenge slot.

Based on this evolution, I would consider the system in Halo 5 to be the most intrusive due to the existence of Warzone which was indirectly a pay to win gamemode. After that, the title should probably go to Halo Infinite with the caveat that none of the items directly affects the gameplay unlike seen in Halo 3, Halo Reach and Halo 4 that used to have premium Map Packs.

I mean considering I spent over 2 grand on H5, they are losing out on me this time.

Christ, and you’re surprised that they decided to monetise Infinite even more? Again, people with your spending habits are the problem. As long as people like you decide it’s a good idea to spend thousands of dollars on microtransactions - especially in games that also ask an upfront premium price, like Halo 5 - then companies will continue to chop apart games to sell in little tiny pieces for outrageous sums because they can point to you and say “see, clearly we are doing the right thing because look how much money we’re making”.

343 handed you a shovel with Halo 5 and you happily dug your own grave with it.

Yeah I’m fully on the let PS have multiplayer but keep Campaign to Xbox only.

I dont think 343 asked for it either. As they were too busy making a quality multiplayer game only to have a tacked on monetary hustle causing all the problems. This is obviously Microsofts doing. If all these posts were moved over to xbox dot com youd possibly have better luck

The new Forza is another in-house expensive AAA flagship Microsoft title and is very generous with giving out cars to players and the customisation with their livery editor is absolutely mindblowing, so I’m not entirely convinced that this is Microsoft’s fault.

that doesn’t make it any less excusable though

I could live with the dopey customization options, (I have before) but let me level up in a meaningful way based on my time invested and skill.

Vote with your spending.
I cannot stress this enough. If they see a massive lack of sales because of their bad system, they will change it up.
