KDA explanation?

Can someone please explain to me the KDA stat column showing up in the post game stats? I understand it is supposed to be the kill/death/assist ratio, as in kills + assists / deaths.

When I look at my games however I’ll see something like 15 kills, 12 deathsKDA 8.7. (This is taken from the stats in my “recent games played” page from this site)

That makes no sense to me. At least give me an option to see how many assists I earned.

I have no idea ether! I can’t even figure out if it’s a ration or a spread… That’s probably really dumb I know. That is for the post game report. I tend to look at accuracy and damage dealt as indicators of how well I played.

I believe the formula is:

(Kills + (Assists/3) - Deaths] / Games Played

for all of your games played if I’m not mistaken

Edit: ^^

Josh Holmes gave this formula out

^ This. It’s not a ratio. It’s a spread. And it’s a per game average.

====================================
[ Kills + (Assists / 3) - Deaths ] / Games Played

The exact formula for KDA likely has variances between those Halo games that have used it, but I believe the base formula is (K+A/3)/D=KDA

Meaning kills, plus assists divided by 3, all over deaths. In effect every 3 assists you have are valued the same as one kill. The full equation being used for H5 may be more complex and may have modifiers for certain gametypes. (For example, the number of assists in SWAT is crazy low, so they might factor in other aspects of performance in that case)

And using a random game for reference, it certainly seems to fit.

That makes sense, but I’m talking about at the end of the played game in the post game carnage report. In the link below I have the stats page for a BTB game I played last night. 16 kills, 13 deaths, KDA 4.7
https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo-5-guardians/xbox-one/mode/arena/matches/1e6a94a4-ec60-435a-a80d-3bdec2784d31/players/pugstacio?gameHistoryMatchIndex=1&gameHistoryGameModeFilter=Arena

I don’t think 343 would include the aggregate stat in the postgame stats, I would assume the KDA quoted in the post game reports would be unique to that one match. I was hoping to see how many assists I earned for that one game because I thought that I might have gotten a lot, but then when I go to check I get this weird figure seemingly pulled from a grunt’s bunghole

The KDA is unique to the match. He was attempted to give the formula for average KDA, which would be all individual KDA’s / number of individual KDA’s

But [(Kills + (Assists/3) - Deaths] is correct for the match KDA. In that match you got six assists.

Given what I already wrote and what looks like more or less the same from everyone else, let’s have some math time:

given what you wrote, solve for x:

8.7 = (15 + (X/3))/12

Skipping ahead, x = 268.2 assists

This leaves three realistic possibilities:

  1. The equation myself and others wrote is not correct, or is incomplete. (as I mentioned, the full equation may be more complex)
  2. The math I just did doesn’t account for total number of games, so it could be correct for multiple games collectively, but not a single game.
  3. The numbers you provided are not correct.

Feel free to check my math. It’s been a while since high school algebra.

I don’t get this formula…

So 16 + (6/2) - 13 is supposed to equal 4.7? Ummmmmmm

16 + 5/3 - 13 = 4.7 … You had 5 assists. the 1.7 is really 1.666666666 being rounded up. Make perfect sense to me. Don’t see the problem.
