KD v MVP

I see KD gets flaunted in your face a lot with Halo 5. Especially after an arena match, the first stat presented is your KD. Now I try to stay strong and be proud of that flag capture. But I do catch myself not running out there to finish off that stronghold capture knowing it’s a death sentence.

Was it Halo 3 that prioritized MVP on the stat screen after a game? A combination of flag defenses, escorts, captures and grabs. Who captured the most strongholds and defended the teammates?

I think this was a winning formula to encourage objective play. Really gave a sense of reward knowing you had been recognized as a team player.

What do you guys think of this KD centered game?

i really hate when people can see my K/D in game, it makes me care about it more. wish it would go back to halo 3 where you could only see everyones K/D on the website and only the website.

Yeah. It would be nice if objective-oriented play was emphasized in the respective modes. K/D obviously matters in Slayer, but not so much in anything else. If you got the objectives and the win, that’s what matters.

Even when someone checks your waypoint, they are presented with your KD almost first. Slayer does matter but that’s 1/3 of the gametypes. Anyone worried about KD (Which the game encourages you to be) won’t really want to sit in a stronhold box waiting for a grenade. The hero of a CTF is the sniper who sits in his comfort zone and goes for kills.

MVP was better. KD was taken into consideration, along side a combination of relevant mode specific medals etc.

I agree, they should bring it back.

I agree. I really liked mvp. I definitely hope they bring it back.

Also as far as know, MVP was unique to Halo (Don’t play many other shooters). Not only did it suit the gamemodes but also contributed to make Halo it’s own kind of shooter.

Cheeky bump  Keen to hear more impressions on this.

K/D in objective games is highly situational. But if you’re going -10 getting flag pulls that only make it 5 feet then you aren’t a net benefit to the team. Getting kills is extremely crucial to winning objective games. Respawning players are useless players.

I’m sure extreme failures wont earn MVP.

In Halo 3 if you had 3 teammates with 12 kills and 5 deaths and you had 13 kills and 30 deaths you still got MVP if you had the most kills that game. So yeah they do.

Stop caring what people care about your K/D. Rank and win rate matter more than K/D. Having a 3.0 K/D in gold division means nothing compared to a 1.0 with champion.

A fined tuned, modern MVP lets say. Not a carbon copy.

The game makes players care about KD, by flagging it to them. Thus the reason…

Just stop caring. I don’t give a damn about my K/D which is probably why its negative;I just play to have fun.

Actually right now my goal is to have a positive win/loss record before my thousandth game of Warzone(mostly Assault). I’m three games back, 480 wins to 483 losses. I’ve only got 16 more losses I can afford while trying to get a streak of wins in order to go positive, 17 if I’m good with being even at 500 a piece. Still, going for it.

Aaaand this is why KD should be disposed of entirely. Were playing a game that pits you against players of your own talent level so what’s the point of showing KD

As long as you can see kills and death you can quickly use your brain to guesstimate someones KD. Halo 3 had the best system for quickly seeing an entire lobby of K/Ds. Wish we could go back to that.

When you can see a lobby of K/Ds before game, its very easy to take advantage of the knowledge. Well good players would at least… For example:

Lets say you notice a certain player on a team always throws stickies first. What do you do? You remember the player and keep a distance from them when fighting them.

Lets say you see a player with a low kd and a player with a high kd on a team before game. What do you do? You remember their names and expect a certain type of fight from each one. Avoid the high KD player and KILL the low KD player.

Have you ever seen one kid doing all the work in a slayer game? You avoid him at all costs and kill the others.

How about seeing a team of high KDs that you feel threatened by. You play the game defensively. KD is a huge aspect of shooters and it should never be abolished from pregame lobbies like halo 5 has done. Its just BS.

This is because so many players are stat whores. They think stats are the only thing that matters. To me, winning is the only thing that matters. Stats are just to gloat if you actually win the game, if you ask me.
