Kazuma Jinnouchi, the right step in the music?

Kazuma Jinnouchi did pieces of the Halo 4 soundtrack, of which he did a very good job. Probably my favorite piece of music in the game is 117, which is done by him. I think he has a very good understanding of having some very familiar sounding musical pieces from the earlier games, yet also moving forward. Knowing that he is the composer gets me very excited to see what he has in store. While it would be awesome to bring back Marty and have he and Kazuma work together, that’s probably not going to happen (unless in a few years when a new game is in development and Marty shows interest in returning). I’m very stoked to see what Jinnouchi and cannot wait to hear the music he comes up with for this game. Do you think Kazuma Jinnouchi is the right guy for the music?

Absolutely. 117 is one of my favorite soundtracks in the whole series.

I like Arrival, Awakening, 117 and revival…

3 of those May be Neil’s…who I think is an 10/10 Halo composer…Kazuma is 10/10 too.

Not really. If you listen to Jinnouchi’s work on the H5G beta soundtrack, it sounds far less like Halo than even his H4 work did. The score sounds more like Lord of the Rings meets Star Trek, with a touch of Davidge on the side. So far I’m not greatly impressed with Jinnouchi’s H5G compositions.
I’d rather have Tom Salta compose for H5G, since he has a much firmer grasp of the Halo sound.

Tom?! But all of his stuff sounds literally the same…

One thing the halo community can’t seem to grasp is that old halo themes wouldn’t fit with this new era of halo. The epic space opera music doesn’t fit with a more personal story with the chief. The only times I think old halo themes should kick in is if chief is on a halo or the ark. The only old halo song that fits with these halos is Never Forget/Unforgotten. Let 343 and Kazuma do their own thing.

Yeah, I wasn’t too impressed with Halo 4’s soundtrack. It had some alright tracks but not much that stuck to me.

I loved the music in Halo 5. There was choir at the right times (like showing the Halo on Truth) and just good music in general. I hope we get the Halo theme like in last year’s trailer.

That’s fine, but come on. The monk chants NEED to be in there SOMEWHERE. Main Menu, some epic cutscene, whatever. They NEED to be there. Go crazy with everything else, Kazuma.

Not all of it, but yeah, his music definitely has strong similarities between tracks. His SA score still had some good variety, though.

Yip, he’s good. He has done some great music for Halo so far.

I felt like there was a lot of filler or not that that great as people make it out to be music in the originals.

So far so good, though I hope the best songs haven’t been revealed yet.

Listening to all of Kazuma Jinnouchi’s work I can say that it sounds great. I am confident in his ability and if Marty is able to participate in some of the soundtrack then all the better.

Implying classic Halo didn’t have emotional music aside from overrated tracks like Unforgotten/Never Forget…

Bruh. Do you even Ashes? Do you High Charity Suite? Pretty much any track from Halo 3 ODST?

It’s not a step in the right direction. Not at all. Not in any way, shape, or form.

It’s a step in the perfect direction.

I am strongly in favor of Jinnouchi’s continued work. I think he brings enough new to the table to give his work in the Reclaimer Saga its own personality, but with enough awareness of the previous trilogy’s sound that it still feels pretty cohesive. He’s also just a great composer on a technical level. His tracks on the H4 OST are some of the best, where I feel Davidge was most comfortable with soundscapes and percussive sections and feel short on orchestration. I would also be happy to see Salta contribute. His work on Spartan Assault in particular is pretty great.

Alright, sure… Halo 4’s soundtrack doesn’t sound like the established Halo music.

But I gotta give it to Kazuma. the track “117” playing on the beginning of the level “Midnight”.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt such a heroic tone in Halo before.
It felt Hero to me. It spoke Hero to me. It sounded like… Master Chief. Hence it being called 117.
Chief was going to save Humanity once again and the track definitely fit the picture PERFECTLY.
More than any other Halo. I sort of wish they play that track again if Chief is doing something incredibly epic in Halo 5 or 6.

I think Jinnouchi should do what Martyy did: find something that’s sounds good, stick to it and build upon it. Marty did that with Halo theme, which can be heard in 75% of his work. Kazuma got a good theme in Halo 4 (can be heard during the beginning of 117 and all off Wreckage), and he should, imo, start from there.
