K/D why so Serious about it.

So i here the Word K/D thrown around a lot and I have experience this one trend when a team loses theres usually one guy who trash talks the stats of someone on the winning team. Now im not one to care about K/D i just wonder why some people take it so serious, Not to be rude but to someone to me it comes off as if you have no life and all you do is play halo all day and pride yourself on that as your greatest achievement in your life.

I can understand why some junior high kid may seem this way he really has almost no responsabilities. But i hear alot of adults do this.

I just wonder and want to find out for my own curiosity why people take it so serious especially for something that doesnt actualy affect life unless it does and please explain why if you dont mind just to get a better understanding as to why you feel that way

im just trying to figure out why its so serious like i cant get my head around why it even real matters in the grand scheme of life.

also why not make stats a private thing you know only let certsin people see them or no one at all its my stats right.

Because it shows we are GUD at gayming. Also because its a competition, you are supposed to want to be good at it. To be completely honest modern gamers dont seem to care at all about how good they are. Im in my mid 20s and i still like actually being good at something even if its a video game

K/D isn’t as big of a deal here as it was during the Reach days, but I agree it means nothing. W/L is the only stat in Halo that means squat (well, K/D SPREAD is important too I guess).

In the grand scheme of life, it doesn’t. In the FPS world, it is one metric that provides you with a quick rough estimate of how good a player is.

Because the majority don’t want this. Seeing stats is a positive evolutionary step in online gaming

ok what about making them resetable i for one dont care for stats so i usually ignore the ones talking trash about stats but at one point they just became this weird thing to me.

This would be a BAD idea, but I wouldn’t be opposed to being able to hide stats from the public.

K/D ratio in FPS games is like a resume at a job interview.

I dunno, but it sure makes it fun to betray your team mates! (; Remember, an ally left unteabagged is a wasted opportunity.

K/D has no bearing in the real world aside from as it has been said a quick glance to gauge how you fair as a gamer, are you a liability? Can you hold your own? Will you single handedly destroy the opposing team whilst I kick back and enjoy my beer? However what people tend to forget is that k/d is dependent on whether your an objective player or not… Some people can’t shoot but are great at planting bombs, carrying flags or holding hills. In the past I’ve witnessed people in objective games such as KOTH where 7 of 8 players are going for the objective and the odd one out is hanging back with his BR, DMR picking off easy kills.
Regardless higher K/D = harder to kill, lower K/D = grunt birthday activated

I disagree, W/L in halo doesnt really matter as its a game most people just sit down and play for fun. Seeing the number of people leaving games etc etc reinforces this. Also, even if your good at the game, you cant really carry your team to victory in halo. As theres no benift from out playing people besides a few points that can quickly be evened out by someone on your team going 2/15. KDA spread shows how well you do over all in every game.

I currently play halo with friends of mine who get 0.3 kda during games that i get 2.0+ and still lose.

So from my own personal experience, KDA spread is a better way to define how good you are at halo than win/lose

When Slayer is the only thing available, K/D is a pretty accurate measurement of a persons skill. Especially since KDA factors in your assists as well, it can even identify if you’re even a contribution at all.

Interesting now as far as the comments of the particular player who loses a match and instantly bash after the match on the winning teams worst player i sure i know the reason for this but would like to hear others comments on this particular behavior.

It doesnt seem like the ones posting back are to heavily obsesssed with the KD and i do understand people getting mad because there team is not holding there wait or carrying there own but if its in a social playlist id say thats no time to be angry since your not playing againsy people with a common goal some are there just to grind out achievements that why when i went for the plasma pistol achievement i stayed in lone wolf.

But an after match trash talk of your team probably wont get you your teams good side which will equal more team kills or your team may say FTG and play even worse.

See to me a social playlist is like a volenteer thing you go to be there but you dont go to deal with or take someone else -Yoink- i usually hit ignore though counter productive to team work i still dont feel like hearing peoples rants when im just playing for fun or just to kill some time.

Im also sticking with a suggestion of adding your amount of matches you have quit and your betrayals to your stats so if stats stay and they are a glimpse of how you play you also have a view of how many times this person quits and kills his own teammates kind alike a game history credit check a bank wouldnt trust someone that defaults on a loan so why would you want to play with someone who quits when it looks like a one sided game or maybe you begin to lose.

Im not going to paint a picture perfect image of me i have quit sometimes and usually when im losing or its me vs one but then i stopped for a bit because i was in one match agaisnt this clan in a social list so you know we were losing. it was me and my kid with the extra controller she was 2 and a hallf at the time so you can see how that went. well aftr the match i got a message and it was from the other team i figure it was a trash talk message but no it was one of hey your pretty awesome for sticking around and playing it through i felt kinda good for a little even though if i had quit it would have been whatever you know.

Yeah, for a solo player K/D spread (not KDA IMO) is the best way to gauge player skill, while for a team player win/loss is a better gauge.

Because it looks good on a resume.

Proficient at Microsoft Word
Good Understanding of Excel
5.6 K/D Halo Reach
4.8 K/D Halo 4
High School Diploma

It’s because it relays your skill as a player. The win/loss ratio means nothing unless you are playing with a dedicated group, then that makes sense. When a players is completing games solo K/D is the only thing that matters.

I would argue K/D SPREAD is more meaningful for solo gamers.

Before I start my rant on your post. I just want to address that I am not defending trash talkers on this matter. Yes it’s annoying with someone bashes your KD and blah blah blah-- Welcome to the internet.

Now for my rant I just have to ask even if someone plays halo all day. Or any video game for that matter. This does not mean they do not have a life, it means they do what they enjoy. As my parents for their time went outside and played bowling, football baseball watched movies. I for my time play video games online with my friends because it’s what we enjoy. I have a full time job, part time college, my car to pay off, insurance ect ect. Yet after work I come home and play xbox the remainder of my day. Of course occasionally going outside to watch a movie or go bowling, w/e. I can’t speak for everyone but come on man, try to understand other peoples wants/needs. It’s 2015 for crying out loud.

Once again I want to state, I do talk crap sometimes but I am not defending them lol. Just the now a days ignorant opinion where someone like that would have “no life”.

Because for the most part, having a good K/D ration is the biggest indicator of how good you are. There are exceptions, of course. Some people camp in corners in order to get 5 kills and 1 death, and others just don’t even care.

But really a higher K/D ratio generally means you win more often.
