I certainly agree that if feels more powerful with those S rank sounds and the precision damage but the AR before was nothing to scoff at, it just sounded like someone was crumpling paper at you menacingly. Also back then skill was the mos sought mout prowess meaning that precision weapons we’re the ONLY way to play back in the old Halos.
Honestly it isn’t worth praise but what is, is that BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS! It rivals or beats the CE AR sound. I miss that glorious beast of spray and prayness. But yeah they did make it so the AR wasn’t hold RT to win so that’s nice to some degree. People have their opinions on it and mine are kind of in the middle

I agree, to a point. The accuracy in SS and headshot damage bonus are absolutely crap though.
The AR would be a lot more balanced without these features.
I think its effectiveness at long range could be reduced, but otherwise, I like it.
I usually (if given the chance) use the SMG over the AR but I agree 343 have done the AR justice and made it a semi-viable option in Arena.
Whether it takes skill or not is an entirely different debate.
Reduce effective range or get rid of the bonus’ it gets in smart scope and I think it would be perfect
id like bonus in smart scope to be removed for all autos come to think of it
AR needs to have its headshot modifier removed. You can’t consistently hit head shots. The weapon just doesn’t allow for that. Having a headshot modifier when you can’t do that makes it random. Person A might hit more headshots than Person B so Person A wins, but both used the weapon identically so it shouldn’t have ended up like that. That’s not healthy gameplay. I also wish that it was moved back to 32 rounds to make it so that missing shots is less forgiving. Lastly, the cone should be widened a little bit to make it less viable at longer ranges. To compensate, the Magnum’s red reticle range should be dragged out a little bit.
The AR in Reach was useful and it had its uses in Halo 3.

It’s not OP or UP. It never got buffed or nerfed. You got good

If you got the drop on somebody the Halo 3 one was useful, otherwise it was terrible.

Don’t even get me started on Destiny.
On topic, it was always one of my favorite weapons but now it is great. It absolutely destroys in Breakout. This is one of the only Halo games where the starting weapons aren’t completely useless.

It’s definitely better than it was in the Bungie games - outside of maybe CE. Thing was a beast in that one!

The assault rifle in CE is leagues better than Halo 5’s in terms of weapon balance.
