Just starting Halo 5

I just got an Xbox One with Halo 5 and I was wondering how I should start. Campaign or Multiplayer?
Also if there’s any advice on how to “not suck”, that would be much appreciated.
I’m very used to using armor abilities and fighting AI and players separately.
I feel like if I jump right into Multiplayer, I will get absolutely destroyed but if I start the Campaign, I won’t be able to stop and it will take too long.
Opinions and comments?

Well, that depends. Many people, myself included, were extremely disappointed in the campaign’s story and feel like it leaves a negative first impression of the game. It is easily the worst part of the game, and by far the worst story out of any Halo game to be released. That being said, I always play and finish a game’s campaign before playing multiplayer, and I would find it hard to break that tradition.

Plus, Halo 5’s campaign is disappointingly short as well, so I wouldn’t worry about it taking too long.

Play the campaign. It looks great and is fun to play and it won’ take that long. The story isn’t the greatest but who cares, just shoot aliens in the face and have fun. I don’t know your skill but in multiplayer I would start in arena. In warzone you will struggle because players who have been playing forever have tons of every weapon.

  • Campaign first to handle the game mechanics and get to know the weapons. Don’t mind the story the story sucks -yoink- for a Halo game. - Warzone or Arena is down to you. If you need some help to get better I recommend you to watch Luke TheNotable videos to improve your skill.

Traditionally I like to play Campaign first.

Always play campaign first.

As others have said: play the campaign first to learn the game. Then I’d recommend going to Heroic Warzone Firefight to get some fast and easy RP to get some packs so you get better gear like BRs and other loadout weapons. Then once you feel confident enough go to either the social playlists or SWAT to teach yourself to aim for the enemy’s head. After that you should be fine on your own and know your way around the game pretty well.

Campaign (learn Halo 5’s movement style) -> Firefight (learn Req system) -> Warzone (intro to large scale Halo battles) -> Custom Arena with friends (nostalgia galore!)

I’d say do some Campaign to get a little bit familiar with the Spartan Abilities… also watch some YouTube videos about them, see some of their uses and applications. Also look up some map strategies and jump videos, and you’ll start to see and get a general feel of how you need to think about H5’s maps.

Then maybe play a little more Campaign, play some MP too, and just practice… Play with friends, or hit up some new ones to party up with when you log on. I’d be willing to show you some MP stuff too… But one thing I’ve always done when I am unable to sit down and play Halo is watch gameplays, or even just montages. I gives you a sense of how you need to play and move around the map, and montages can be good inspiration when it comes to wanting to hit some sick clips!

Just some little ways to instill some personal drive to play and improve…

I DO care. It was for the story I bought Halo 5 and it is for the story I play Halo in the first place.

Campaign first. I started it on legendary, but you may want to start on heroic. Anything below that is too simple.

I started with Multiplayer because I, personally, don’t play the Campaign in most shooters but it’s up to you on whether or not you like to play the Campaign in games.

Halo 5’s story was pretty clearly thrown together as well, Cortana’s presence alone is a testament to that.

Thanks all. I just played the first two missions and it was amazing. I really did need to get used to the controls (ground pound is really hard to control). It was definitely the right choice for me. Looking forward to finishing the rest and moving on to Multiplayer.

If the controls are a little weird, you could try one of the other control schemes. I use the Halo 4 layout because the default one doesn’t work for me.

Play campaign on Normal or Heroic to train a bit. Then start playing Multiplayer.

I disagree. Halo 5’s story was a disaster, and I quite loved Halo 2’s story. Was it the best that it could have been? Maybe not. Did it follow its advertising? Not quite. But what it did do was flesh out the Covenant immensely, give us an interesting new protagonist and well-written supporting characters, and drove the story forward in a logical and fascinating manner. Not to mention the great writing. Halo 5 gave us none of that, only leaving us with one-dimensional characters, an illogical and unoriginal plot, flat writing and badly-handled fan service.

So yeah, no. I respect your opinion and your right to have it, but I cannot agree with you at all.
