Just how much do you really like Halo and 343?

I pondered on the thought of the two for awhile now and in the end after playing through Bungie’s originals and 343s Halo, I just couldnt see how this series came down so badly. We know that Halo had a solid foundation it stod on and to what point were things needing to be added, like Sprint, Clamber, Slide, Spartan Charge, lack of proper UI, armor design change, ADS and so much more. Watching ViDocs and other videos made from both Bungie and 343, I see that Bungie were more passionate about Halo than 343. They knew if something didnt work, they would fix it as best as they could and not call it a day. They wanted a experience that players could enjoy time and time again, year after year if they wanted to. With 343, I feel they just want to create something that seems good and just go from that and call it quits without actually going back and seeing if anything needs real change or stress testing things to see if they work properly.

Im not calling 343 a bad developer but a developer who cares very little of a series that was amazing. I cant recall any memorable times whenever I played any of 343’s Halos. None. Sure call me a Bungie fanboy but in the end, the original Bungie, the one’s who made Halo, those are the one’s I am a fanboy to. I just feel that 343 come up short with their choices and make a lot of mistakes. You would kinda think after 3 games… I feel they care more about their design to Halo than what really makes the game fun to players. Too competitive and no real social aspect to it, way too many glitches and bugs and just so much more.

But if you want to see my point watch this ----------------------> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qfx9eoB-88

Please take 12:50 of your time to watch this. You will see my point.

And if you somehow believe that what you’re doing is the greatest thing ever all the time, it’s absolutely not gonna be the greatest thing ever.

  2. I wish 343 would actually make halo games and no longer make call of duty xenophobic warfare.

Im not able to post links yet.

Watching that video made me wish Bungie was still around making Halo.

Who would’ve thought Bungies focus on making things fun would be something we’d take for granted? You’d think every dev would prioritize making things fun.

Unlike you though, OP, I do think 343 are bad developers. I don’t mean that in a harsh, “these guys -Yoinking!- suck” way, I simply say it matter-of-factly. While perhaps not individually, as a whole, they are uninspired, uncreative, refuse to communicate with the fanbase, make mindbogglingly stupid decisions sometimes and lie way too much, to be honest. The only undeniably good thing I’ve seen come out of 343 is what they’ve done with forge.

Again, not trying to be disrespectful to them, but at a certain point these things have to be said because it’s been four years of dealing with all this. It gets tiring.

Especially since halo is the flagship title for the Xbox. What really grinds my gears about that video is when the hay H2A will be exactly the same but then add the assault rifle and suppressed smg.

No I understand your point and I didnt want the post to come off as something non-constructive here, personally I dont like them at all as a developer, never have and never will and that is being nice but t he Forge team is the only amazing thing about 343.

They’ve made good things (Forge) and bad things (campaign) with Halo 5. Overall I like the game, 343 are clearly a talented developer, but there’s also a lot of mismanagement and strange decisions going on there. Maybe if they shift their priorities a bit and be a tad more communicative with the fans, it would bring out the best in them, I’m sure.

Well while I wont agree 100% maybe 10%, they seem to think otherwise that their design make the game great but as a lot of people have seen and said, tells a different story. I just dont think they have the HONEST approach here whenever it comes to making a Halo game, that everyone loves and considers fun.

They were referring to the classic version when they said that (though even that wasn’t true for a number reasons).

I’m still waiting for that explanation of what went wrong with the MCC, like Frankie promised us. Maybe by not giving us one, that’s their way of acknowledging it’s not fixed…

There had been four proper Halo shooters years ago. The formula people loved was there, but 343 intended to change it and they did. In my eyes, 343 is refusing to follow the path that older Halo games settled, which is bad mentality for developers that suppose to follow it as long as they are producing the same brand. They are bad and incompetent developers when it comes to developing a Halo game. The wish I have for 343 is to drop their new vision and philosophy, then creating a true Halo game.

I really like Halo, but 343 seems to be trying to make me not like them sometimes.

Man… Watching this really makes me miss Bungie. Their design philosophy was perfect, they aimed to make the game fun, a game that they as gamers would want to play. Because of that, every single Halo game made by Bungie was special. I know that people had issues with Reach, but when I play it, despite its issues it feels like a labour of love. They had all of these fantastic ideas, and Reach was their way to show them. And the original trilogy? An epic tale that was fantastic to play through over and over and over again. ODST was also an incredible side story which showed a more human side of the war. But no matter what, every one of Bungie’s Halo games came off as being filled with passion, passion used to create something unique that stands out. Even Destiny (yes, I know many of you have issues with that as well) feels like it was made by hands who wanted to make this fantastic experience. Did the original story suck due to unfortunate rewrites? Yes. But now, the game is really a Bungie game.

But 343i? Man… Their Halo games just lack that special feeling. No longer is Halo a game made with love and passion, it’s just made as a business tool to make money (I’m not saying that Bungie didn’t want to make money). No longer is the franchise fueled by people who want to make Halo and stay true to the original Bungie vision, it’s not a mainstream shooter built to make cash from the modern shooter fans. Are their games fun? Sure, they have their ups and downs, but they lack that magic of Bungie’s Halo games. They don’t stand out, they aren’t “Halo”. Sure, 343i has supported Halo 5 decently well after its release with the addition of classic weapons and stuff. But I can’t say that I love Halo 4 and 5 like I love Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST and Reach.

Am I a Bungie fanboy and a 343i hater? I don’t think I would go that far. I came into Halo 4 being extremely excited, just as I was for all of Bungie’s Halo games. And even Halo 5 had me hyped after all of their fantastic advertising. But both times I ended up being very disappointed… At this point, I do not believe that 343i is doing a good job with the franchise, nor do I believe that they are worthy of working on it.

A quote that I would like to point out :

“If you somehow believe that what you do is the greatest thing ever, the greatest thing ever all the time, it’s absolutely not going to be the greatest thing ever”.

I think 343i should think about that real hard concerning what they’ve created, and throw their ego out of the window.

And that quote though I said the same thing is something that 343i needs to take into consideration but sadly I dont think it will help them out because ego is a powerful thing.

They were passionate about halo 4, and I can see some of it coming back but yeah I miss old bungie( screw new bungie). Meh halo 6 will either make or break halo.

Well funny thing is if you didnt know that 343 which created Halo 4 had people on the team that disliked Halo so how honest are they about their “passion” for Halo. I just dont feel it.

Passionate was the wrong word what I’m trying to say is they talked more, did more stuff, they felt more alive than present 343.

They had people who hated halo? I thought they only took people who were fans of other series onto their team to reach a new audience(epic fail there).

If that is the case, people who dislike Halo being in the 343 as employee, that will make everything sense for what happened to Halo 5.

Nope they hired on people who disliked Halo, Frankie stated so.
