I have been looking at all the new info regarding the new Forward Unto Dawn movie, and something about it to me doesn’t sound…well, let’s just say it sounds a bit fishy:
> The story of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn hops in the way-back machine a little bit to take you about 30 years in Halo history before the games you know (Halos CE through Reach) to a moment when humanity was fighting essentially a civil war, an insurrection of the outer colonies against the colonies closer to (and including) Earth. In order to keep the officers flowing for this war, the United Nations Space Command set up the Corbulo Academy of Military Science to teach the children of the UNSC’s elite leadership how to lead the war and, just as importantly, how to believe in that war.
If this is accurate, and let’s just assume for argument’s sake MC’s in his early 20’s in FUD…that would put him close to his early 50s by the time Reach rolls around and close to his 60s by the start of Halo 4.
…but more importantly than that, according to Halo’s timeline CE took place in 2552(source: Halo 2 & Reach intro), and John-117 was born about 2510 (source: Fall of Reach)…so if this about 30 years before CE stuff is accurate, that would put the Chief at about 12 years old for the FUD movie.
Just seems kinda funny, given how 343’s been pretty adamant about wanting to make all of the fiction count.
The Master Chief is about 46 during Halo 4. He is around 14 during FUD.
As to how long Spartans live? I don’t know but I would imagine they would live for a very long time. Superior genes + extensive augmentations mean a life expectancy (outisde of combat of course) of around 90 I would say, maybe 100.

Unless he hadn’t gone through augmentation yet, I don’t see that being feasible. Most people don’t stop growing until as late as their early 20’s…to do any kind of solid structure enhancements to teenagers would leave them crippled or deformed. And I know some Spartan-II’s “washed out”, but to do that to teenagers that are more than likely still growing…that’s just plain dumb…you’d think future scientists would be smarter than that.

The Spartans had undergone their augmentations at that point and had puberty induced early. It is said that in their early teens they had the bodies of Olympic atheletes.

Dont forget Cryosleep. I might be wrong, but wasnt Johnson around 81 when he died? It didnt look like he was dieing of age.

Not quite. Johnson was in his sixties when he died. But yes cryo is going to have an effect on the Chief’s age.

Actually, Johnson could have been anywhere from his 60s to his 80s when he died. Because we aren’t given an accurate birth date, it would be wiser to assume he was in his late 60s/early 70s. And with him still being in active service at that age, I would presume SPARTAN IIs would be fit for service until their 80s, probably dying of natural causes around 100 years of age.
John was born in 2511 according to the Halo Encyclopedia.
*From Halo:Fall of Reach - Bootcamp
In Sept of 2525 John and his team were sent on their first mission to capture Inssurectionist Colonel Watts.
On Nov. 2, 2525 the Spartans on Reach were briefed about the Covenant taking out Harvest.
From Halo:Fall of Reach - Covenant
Nov. 27, 2525 John and his team arrive at Chi Cheti 4, John is given the MJOLNIR armor.
So he did have the Armor and all the augmentations by the time he was 14. At the end of the FoR:Covenant book 4, It is July 2552, John and his team are leaving Sigma Octanus 4. So the Forward unto Dawn would probably have to had happened during the time in between the first book of For:Covenant and the second book of that series. Since it jumps 27 years and they go from Chi Cheti 4 to Sigma Octanus 4. Plus once the next series starts, it is 2552, John is on Reach, and getting MK V armor. So there was a 27 year span where John was using MK IV.
And to stay with the original question, there is no way to know really, all the Spartans so far have died in combat, or were MIA, or are still alive. Look at Parangosky(sp?) she’s in her 90’s. And still serving, which means she can obviously still move fairly well, an has fine mental capacity. So if we are to believe the augmentations would help with that, then Spartans could be combat effective well into their late 80’s. Living outside of combat possibly well into the 100’s, maybe 120.
Which then begs the question from the latest scene from the game. Why would the captain question Johns senses? When at 47ish, he is still well within even todays standards of sound mind.
Not long ago, the average lifespan was 40-50 years. Now with the help of modern science we can live well into our 80’s. This generation of children can be expected to live into their 90’s. Now fast forward 500 years. They also have DNA altering augmentations. Add slipspace and cryo time. I say at MINIMUM 120’s.

Actually Samuel was 14 at the time of the spartan’s first use of the mjolnir armour, which coincided with the spartans first contact with covenant forces resulting in his death, so yes it is feasible
Well seeing as most naval crew and soldiers spend about half their time in cryo and since you dont age when you go into cryo, you would be somewhat right to say that a spartain could live to be well over 150 years old in physical age. However in terms of biology a spartain could most likley to live longer than a normal human so my guess would be around 130 biologicly before dieing of age
I’m not sure which one i read this in but I remember in one of the books it said that much of the time for spartans not spent on missions was spent in cryosleep, and you age way slower if not at all while in cryosleep.

I think more than 120 if we take augmentations into account , since you can basically live for more than 100 with just superior(ossum da grenade possum captain america)genes.

But then you gotta count those nuclear explosions. Those tend to be a spree ender…
