Okay so MAYBE I got drunk tonight, the last night before the weekly challenges reset, and MAYBE switched on one of my ‘complimentary’ 2x XP for 1h boosts before attempting to crank out this final challenge, which was “Return the flag 10 times in PVP” And maybe I kept dropping out of every game because I couldn’t get into a CTF match.
Only… what did you expect me to do? I can’t select a queue for CTF only, and I was getting back-to-back “SLAYER, ODDBALL, ODDBALL, ODDBALL, TOTAL CONTROL BTB” over and over. I had 30 minutes left on my xp boost and didn’t want to waste it on a measly 50xp for participating. Until tomorrow’s reset we were only getting 50xp per match, and I wanted that weekly color scheme reward, but I have to sleep eventually…
So, really? You’re going to ban me for match-hopping when that was my ONLY option to complete these weeklies in an acceptable timeframe?
Shame on you, marketing team, for insisting that challenge swaps be a thing by condensing playlists down to mini-mixed bags of gametypes. Shame on you, for thinking I need to be punished for not wanting to play oddball for the 13th time in a row today, and shame on you for thinking there’s no way this would backfire on yourselves and this community.
I expected more mindfulness from you after all this time.
I don’t blame you because 343i created this problem
If you’re going to give us mode-specific challenges then the assumption is that we can queue for that mode without having to rely on luck, but that isn’t the case, so this problem is prominent
I want to love this game so much but some of the regressive choices dampen the experience.
i343 created a system which foster this.
Players do what they need to do in order to complete their challenges.
Just like weapon and vehicle camping in game.
whiles it is your fault for lobby hopping and thus being banned… i can’t fault you. i infact sympothise for you. i mean, it IS so very annoying having a challenge that requires a specific gamemode, and yet you get EVERY SINGLE OTHER TYPE OF GAMEMODE, aside from that one gamemode. oh and gamemodes you don’t want to play. like, i love you oddball, but i don’t want to play you every other game along side CTF… i just want to play some Slayer
This is gonna sound kinda tinfoil-hat, but I think it even effects matchmaking. If you have a challenge called “Win x matches” it seemed to suddenly stack the matchmaking against me, or at least my teammates, whereas any other time I feel pretty evenly matched especially in BTB.
And yet… 6 losses in a row on BTB queueing looking for both 3 stockpile wins and a single BTB win. Pardon me for noticing the sudden difficulty shift for completing challenges once the challenge is active.
There was in another thread, same scenario, someone who calculated the chance to not get the game type required to be extremely small. While mentioning that other similar occurances had been talked about. I too feel like I get modes less often with specific challenges, as they’re tracking of course.
I don’t blame you for holding me partially responsible. I’d NEVER do this in any other game, because no other game pushes me to this extent.
To waste my time is the ultimate sin, and so my sins grow in retaliation.
honestly? it may just be like coinsidental stuff, but i really did feel the same when i had the challenges. before i’d get a split between the modes, then when i get a challenge saying X mode, i get every other mode but the one i want
wasting ANY players time in a game desined to not waste time and have fun is a big sin. but also, same, like even in CoD where the gameplay is the exact same each match, i get rewarded fairly for staying and trying in the match, so i do so. but in Infinite… i get jack but a simple ‘50 xp’… even if i do good, get tons of medals, still ‘50’… like a spit to the face. like, sure i get something for completing the match… but not off of skill or indurance. just off of tollerance.
Oof, yeah, that’s what it feels like. Being rewarded scraps for “tolerating” the current system.
If Infinite played like Halo 4 or 5, it would have FLOPPED. Immediately. We’ve got a lot of old-timers like me who’ve been playing Halo since we were like 10 years old coming back to the game after practically boycotting 4 and 5 for not playing right, and most of us aren’t interested in buying xp boosts and challenge swaps.
It’s not just that the grind is long, it’s that the reward systems FEEL BAD. During the match you feel great, because it feels like classic Halo gameplay. But every moment spent outside of a decent match is agony for these aforementioned reasons. It feels like they purposefully designed it to be so infuriating that a small corner of the fanbase will cave in and buy stuff in excess of the battle pass itself. They should have just stuck to the $10 battle pass and not pushed their luck any further.
whiles i didn’t mind halo 4 and 5’s gameplay, i will admit, if infinite was anything like them, it would’ve been DOA. that being said… i can still feel that halo 5 gameplay in a few of the vehicles and weapons. AR and Sidekick stand out especially. but i digress…
just reading this… ugh i can feel the agony. like in game, i get a spree, snipe kills, all these new medals, enjoying the fun gun and gameplay. only to then load and see… that i got 50 XP for all my hard work enjoying the game… fun ain’t alloud, just tolerance…
as someone who joined halo at Reach during the time it was dying down 2018/19, just before it was announced for mcc/pc, i felt leagues more rewarded post game. seeing the Cr i got, maybe even ranking up because of how well i did, and then seeing potential future armor pieces that i could get, or even unlock… it felt rewarding
Halo 5 has the req packs, yes. but grinding for the currency and getting a worthwhile nameplate, skin, or armor piece felt 10x more rewarding than infinite… in my oppinion
it really does though! and the amount of people whom have already done that is disheartening… knowing that microsoft doesn’t care about their flag ship series to force 343 to stoop this low… almost makes me loose hope for anything post Infinite… kinda already does
they should’ve just stayed to the 60 of the full game, rather than going the free route only for the multiplayer… and then offerend DLC for maps like old… but big boy company is gunna be greedy and follow gaming trends without anything unique… well i guess Infinite is unique in one way, not feeling rewarding or worthwile playing, despite the sandbox gameplay… honestly i’m debating if i’l even return to the game come next weak. i mean, if the reward ain’t worth, i ain’t grinding… nor playing matches to get nothing weather i win or loose… i’m better off playing CoD or MCC. Per match Xp based on skill oddly does wonders for a game… well odd to companies
If you’re quitting matches, that’s what I’d going to happen.
I don’t sympathise over it, realistically you’re better off using your XP boost when you’re about to complete the challenge rather than at the start of it.
If you’ve got 10 flags to return, doing that in a hour is a big task. If you got to 8/9 I’d use the boost then…just logic really.
Especially since you’re not even finishing other matches to make use of the boost in the first place.
I have only a couple hours left, and I want the paintjob reward for completing all weekly matches.
My desire to complete the challenge is higher than my desire to grind out matches, but not high enough to buy challenge swaps. You are the minority in this argument for wanting to do so.
Sorry pal, you’re still wrong. Quitting matches ruins the game for everyone; the point of the game is to have fun, and by quitting matches you ruin that for 7+ other people. Unlocking stuff is cool but having fun playing the game is the point. Are they wrong to not have good playlist options and to use an annoying challenge system? yeah, of course. But you shouldn’t quit games, no matter what.
Imagen if 343 didn’t implement a system that encourages leaving the match, baiting your team for kills with utility weapons, ignoring the objective, burning yourself out and not having any fun.
Where is this number 7 coming from? Are you counting the 4 people on the other team? If you are, trust me their game is anything but ruined by someone on the other team leaving.
A. Yes, I am counting all 7 other players in the game. Trust me, their game is still ruined, at least for a lot of players who want to actually play the game. There is nothing more dismally boring than stomping another team because they don’t have enough players, wandering around the map for two minutes in between every fight looking for them.
Maybe you’re different, but as for myself, and my entire friend group, it is just as (if not more) annoying to play against a team with less people as it is to be on the team with less people. I like to play because there’s a challenge; if I wanted to steamroll people because I have an unfair advantage, I’d go play against bots. Getting joy from beating down a team with an unfair disadvantage is akin to getting joy from bullying someone; frankly that’s just sad.
B. What, you want to play “unlock simulator?” The point of the game is to play the game lol. If you enjoy the unlocking stuff a lot, great. I’m glad you enjoy it. But the gameplay is still the more important thing; Halo without unlocking stuff is still Halo. Halo without the gameplay, even with unlocking stuff, is nothing at all.
C. Exactly, it’s just a video game. It’s a game to play to have fun, and anyone with any semblance of being a good person will try to make the game fun for everyone, not just themselves. That means staying in games, even just for the sake of not ruining everyone else’s experience because you’re too shallow and selfish to spend a few minutes playing the game that, by the way, you decided you want to play in the first place.
You’ll find that I’m in the overwhelming majority here. 99% are happy when the other team is a man down.
And in all games you get to choose to quit if you don’t want to play with certain people or if you don’t want to be forced to play a game you don’t want.
Ok but how shallow do you have to be to judge people’s character based only on them quitting matches? This is one of the biggest first world non-problems to deal with. Get real.
@Daverex8539 Yeah, having no control over game types sucks. It also makes no sense. The challenges are already enough incentive for everyone to try everything. They really are just making it harder to do anything in a timely manner.
