I know there’s a million and one threads about this, but I just had to make one. The other day I was playing on Settler, and of course I was being destroyed by DMR kids with their -Yoink!--strafe. I happened to pick up the LR that a teammate dropped when he died and it instantly turned the tide of the match. Have a loadout specifically for big team now.
Although I will say it has a steep learning curve.
It’s all about your connection speed and your shot as to the power of the light rifle. If you have bad connection use the DMR, if you have good connection use the LR.

When the weapon tuning drops, I may end up switching to the LR as my main.
Thats assuming it is as boss as I think it will be.
It will allegedly be more dominant from longer range. Note to self, stay far away and use the LR = Win!

I love the Light Rifle. Even on almost any 4v4 map except Skyline you can use your playstyle to give yourself the advantage with it in almost any scenario. Especially if you learn how to land scoped shots during a mid-range fight.
Try using the firepower package with the LR and Carbine. This combo is already deadly and will only become more effective once the sandbox alterations go live.
The Carbine is a beast in close-mid range, and the LR is great for mid-long. My favourite maps to use this combo on are Haven and Abandon due to the mix of close quarters and mid range combat.

I wish more people from the “BR is fine” crowd would realize it. The LR as it is now is a straight upgrade from the BR. Unscoped the difference in their killtimes is negligible(especially when you consider the BR spread). Scoped its no contest and can easily keep up with a DMR.
Learning how to use the scope also allows the LR to go toe to toe with the other weapons by enabling a 4 shot kill(and other combos).
I’ve said it before and I will stick by it: The LR has the highest skillgap of any precision weapon in Halo history besides the CE pistol(and has the second most competitive merit by extension).
Not used the LR in a while now, I grew fed up of not finding any spare ammo on the ground like you can with the BR/DMR/AR as so few people use it.
After reading this post I was on Settler & proceeded to picked up a LR off the ground & got 5 kills with it. So i am going to give it a try from the start & replace the DMR with a LR in my Settler loadout!
Light Rifle has best firing effect, firing sound effect, scope, function (single shot and burst fire), and projectile round.
I just don’t want too many people to start using it and be like, “it’s overpowered”.
I use the light rifle. Since I’m a forerunner weapon user, I go light rifle, boltshot, autosentry, pulse grenade, ammo, AA efficiency.
I also don’t want it to be too overused, you know?

I agree, i use the suppressor in tandem with the light rifle and the pulse grenade, if the LR becomes overpowered and overused, it would be so stupid if it becomes the next DMR, especially since I’ve found it the weapon with the most needed skill in all the Halo’s
I’d maybe use the suppressor but since I don’t have firepower equipped, I use the boltshot. I usually pick up supressors from the ground. Problem with this is that my loadout weapon commendations aren’t going up to much.
I use Battle Rifle on every map. At least for now. Long range guns just got boring for me, personally.
Before that, the LR was my weapon of choice (after getting bored of the DMR). Hopefully the weapon update doesn’t add too much buff to it, as I’ve always found it to be a great gun as it is.
Steep learning curve indeed, but now I swear by it. I’m still working through Mastery for storm rifle and suppressor but otherwise the LR is simply tops. Welcome aboard!
If the DMR becomes weaker than the Light Rifle, i’m gonna cry. Cuz the DMR, IMO has better aim, EXCLUDING AIM ASSIST and RANGE OF FIRE. Yet, i would definitely make my Light Rifle my 3rd loadout.

It should be ok as long as the rate of fire of the unscoped LR still requires you to be spot on.
