Just Copy Reach’s XP System

By now, I can’t be the only one who thinks Infinite should have the same type of xp (cR) system that reach had, right?

Imagine we got actual ranks besides battle passes. Why not have a rank system to work towards underneath the battle pass system? People want replayability, but even now with the beta xp system, it still revolves around the passes. It’s still so basic that it doesn’t drive ppl to perform better. Oh, I’m on the winning team? Gimmie dat extra 50xp. I was top 50% of the team? 50xp more. I was top 50% on the losing team? Still 50xp. Where’s the incentive?

Once all battle passes are finished (and they are with many ppl… these extended seasons guarantee that), where’s the incentive to keep “ranking up”? And don’t even get me started by saying, “there’s weekly challenges to work on.” The fact that they’re now redoing old challenges from both seasons just insults anyone who put in the effort last time. They don’t get rewarded this time around & it’s all just a waste (not to mention lazy).

So why don’t we have an overall rank system to work on? Why don’t we have the extra payout categories like Reach also had; the ribbons that acted like milestones? Some took ages, but not only did they pay out xp upon reaching said milestones, they were viewable by other players! Being able to view a friends service record and see they had an onyx perfection ribbon in firefight showed me how dedicated they were and how much they played firefight. Or seeing that they had an onyx headshot ribbon in PvP made me think to myself, “they hit me with headshot kills every time! no, they weren’t cheating, they’re just that good in PvP!” A simple little system could give so many answers on one screen and deter me from reporting them for near perfect headshot accuracy (even though in game reporting is STILL a missing feature)… it was a great progression system, and I just don’t understand why 343 never did anything like it again!!

I just assume infinite will miss out on a bunch of standard features from previous games since it’s “too difficult” to make certain things happen in a timely manner at this point, but come on… you literally had the blueprint right in front of you to add some of the best stuff and no one would’ve complained! Having legit service records, xp progression & ranking systems are just the bare minimum to ask for/expect at this point in the franchise’s lifespan. I would’ve praised 343 if they copy/pasted the system from reach. Just having that stuff to work on/towards is the difference between doing all battle pass challenges in a day then not hopping back on for a while or playing daily cause there’s always stuff to work on. I’d keep replaying campaign missions if there was a ribbon for “x amount of times missions were beat on legendary” or “get 10k elite kills”, but where’s the fun right now in replaying missions? To get all collectibles or finish higher difficulty achievements? Then what? Drive around the open world and keep killing the same enemies? I’d feel inspired to go for the “100k kills in firefight”…. if we even had a firefight.

There has to be something that adds value and drive to ranking up. There has to be something more than just a battle pass system. There has to be incentive on top of ranking up that pushes us to keep playing. Reach figured it all out and gave us ranks, progression AND an added milestone system on top of everything that pushed ppl to want to keep playing.

Games have evolved and all this stuff (from Reach) was bare minimum stuff we needed in infinite. You obviously know fans wanted the best of Reach (which is why infinite heavily pulls from Reach; cR, the first battle pass wasn’t new armor, it was mainly reach’s content), so why did you leave out the ranking/progression system? Why did you leave out the service record system? Just being able to view other Spartan’s accounts and accomplishments would be a game changer. At this point, I don’t expect it in a future update, but do you really think it’s a good idea not having a version of any of this stuff in future halo games? Come on guys… get it together and start making halo games worth our time! Is it too much to ask for that we get a game that we actually wanna put our time into? Is this idea just lost on you?

Come on… make it happen. For the love of Halo, make it happen!

(And who remembers the daily/weekly cR challenges in Reach on top of everything I just mentioned? Miles better than what we have now)

Edit: as some ppl have mentioned… I’m aware forums aren’t a place the devs come for feedback (seems they don’t even accept it thru normal channels of communication), but throughout time, in various companies, devs have checked out the most popular of forum posts. I don’t expect anything to come of this, but I post it in the hopes that if this actually does get through to someone of importance, maybe we all can finally enjoy a truly rewarding system down the road. Stranger things have happened…

I’ve been wanting the Reach cR system to return since Halo 4. 343 literally has had a blueprint of what we expect from a Halo game, yet they have failed to implement basic features. Halo Infinite has the best gameplay since Reach, but it’s 1 step forwards, 2 steps backward as always with 343.

It’s sad that we got Forge, & Co-Op 1 year later, which is pretty pathetic. These have all been released at launch from previous Halo games, but for 343 it was “too hard” to implement. This game should have been delayed to 2022, as it’s just now starting to feel like a full release.

I was pretty disappointed - even though I should have realistically known - when Reach came to MCC and didn’t have the cR/unlock system the same way.

Oh beleave me we all want the old reach xp system. I’d even take halo 3 at this rate. Unfortunately these forum’s aren’t for feedback. Just discussions.

If they had just brought in same progression system as mcc it would of felt more Halo, and I’d be more willing to buy things as would of played more as still progressing through my ranks instead of doing battle pass and then nothing, should of been hybrid f2p, it would of worked so much better

I’ve been saying so much of this for years now. Adding the overall rank with a skill based rank such as Halo 3 but with better symbols just like Reach. I truly can’t believe that 343 missed this big and changed it up so much with Battle Pass tiers thinking that would help the game. We the community NEED nah, REQUIRE a grind that we can continually log on and work for. I remember back in college getting on at the most random times to keep playing to work towards that Inheritor rank. Man, that was a serious grind and a blast going for it.

Make the change 343!

Hated Reach’s system. No thanks. it was just grind.

Reach’s system is my favorite of all the progression systems we’ve had with halo. Really only Reach, 5 and Infinite. I don’t recall H4 having one, did it?

the reach exp system was the best from then all in the halo serie’s.
since you can farm for the armor parts you wane have and wane use.
and mix that with the challange system it got you get the best combo ever.

from my part there can copy the armor system also from reach that from some parts you need to unlock some achievements from past halo game’s.
like long wolf from halo 5 to get this armor part.
and add the skins also in the system and then you get the best of the best system there is for halo there can use.

halo 4 got a compleet difrend one.
it was more that some armor parts are bound to some challance you need to compleet first like get 50 killing spree’s or with that weapon X kills.
but halo 4 got a max level of 75 i think it was that was easy to get more and it has no point system like reach with there CR system.

that was now the fun part for a lot of people to grind there armor parts there wane have and armor effect.
thats why the halo reach system was good since people can grind for there parts there wane use.

I didn’t say make getting inheritor as much of a grind as reach, ya kno. 343 could use reach as the blueprint but shorten the higher ranks OR add a prestige ranking on top of the reach format, giving us easier grinds but more to invest in.

The fact it’s a loved ranking system that is sorely needed…. And you’re saying no tells me you like the current battle pass system that goes nowhere. Also, I did say to add the service record system along with the ribbon milestones. Was it much easier for you to just shut down everything I wrote or can you not see that there were other elements that were great that need to be implemented?

Keep the long term progression system but then keep specific playlist ranks like there is now.

They mentioned not being able to put Reach’s own system back into MCC at the time due to “staffing problems”, I doubt they even wanted to use it for Infinite given how they used MCC as a test case for Battle Passes and STILL F’ed it up. They want you to need the boosts, so they limit how much you can earn per session, so challenges will always be their fav because they can make them as bad as they want.

Reach didn’t require high ranks to get everything, and a grind being replaced by cash only items isn’t acceptable. A grind is playing, I need a job to “earn” anything in Halo Infinite.

No you couldn’t. It was a linear track. Do you remember the XP soft cap? My favorite helmet was at the VERY end of it, before they allowed further grind. That was awful.

You said the XP system. We all want a career/service record one. They’re building it for Infinite.

i not remember it all and maybe there was something a soft cap for exp so that some people not go crazy with it.
since if you reach the soft lock that means you have grint more to much then somebody that is doing it on the relex side and plays the game more normal.

i know really good that you have always some people that wane reach the max rank first before somebody else do it in some game’s but at some point i think its become more to crazy and a soft cap is a good thing more to slow then down for once.

Yeah, back in the day there was a soft cap
(Remove the spaces below.)
https: //www.wired. com/2010/11/halo-reach-armor/

At the end of that was the MK V helmet but you really couldn’t progress beyond it.

But you had to use the Cr to buy stuff at the time and you could only get it by playing whatever was on playists - not custom games or Forge. (They DID offer things, but like… It was TINY. And very low capped.)

People who remember Reach’s system only remember the good parts, but everything you wanted to unlock was a grind. Armor pieces had prerequisite ranks to be able to get.

https: //halo.fandom. com/wiki/Halo:_Reach_Armor_Unlock_Table

So you could not get whatever you wanted. That is a myth.

Accessing the terminals in CEA so you could enter the codes in Waypoint to get cR was what hooked back into the series.

Compared toooo…*drum Roll PLEASE…Just grind in this Game???

For me, the #1 Progression system, that will forever be my favourite and frankly the best of any game is TitanFall 1’s Generation System, and i want to see it done for other games even halo infinite.

having the traditional XP Path and then a free prestige when you reach the Cap, redoing the levelign process again except this time in order to prestige moving forward you have to complete a set of assigned challenges, was the best thing.
Actually having to fulfill a series of challenges that got harder and harder the higher you go in the ranks, and often times even a Test of youre Skill and knowledge of the game as a player, gave the best satisfaction and sens eof accomplishment when you finally reached the end and made it to the final Generation, knowing youve fought through so many players and commited some serious effort and skill to reach that stage.

A Shame no other game even dares attempt a system like that. i guess nowadays things just need to be handed out to players for showing up. *shrugs

I remember this and it was annoying because playing firefight offline didn’t net that many points and I really wanted to level up and unlock options but not being able to afford a live membership every month prevented that.

I would take anything at this point though because I’m done with all the season passes and the weekly is super quick to finish.

Mhm but see, when you unlock something? You unlock it period. You don’t have to grind cR to buy it afterwards. So, nah. DOn’t even.

Well, Titanfall 1 doesn’t really have a playerbase and struggled then, so, you know, maybe that wasn’t the right move.

I mean hey at this point we can just, play the game for the game’s sake. Forge is here.
