Just copy halo 2’s ranking system for halo infinite already

I’m a bit shocked at how easily they missed this slam dunk. They did all the hard stuff right but only left minimal growth for ranked multiplayer resulting in people getting tired of it because they have reached the highest level, onyx ( a lot even before launch after the beta). Resulting in few people caring. Make a ranking system up to 50 (at least) with different color categories for every three ranks. I still think about how halo 2 had me racing home from college to play and work on my rank. Such a shame for such a good game for such a lazy ranking system. 343 if y’all need more ideas reach out to me because COD has had a stranglehold too long and you have a chance to recapture market share if y’all just reworked a few things.

I mean…Halo 2’s ranking was literally just a simple win/loss system where you gained or lost points based on a win or a loss. It wasn’t anything special.

As it should be. Halo 2 ftw

And did you get to 50? I got to 39 and wanted to put it on a resume

You’re literally complaining in another thread about how you dislike losing points for a loss…Make up your mind.

Uh…probably not? I have no idea what rank I was when I stopped playing that game. I was 18 when that game came out and I was just starting my military career so I didn’t play it much.

No. I said it in the beginning. Wins and losses should be the only thing that matters. Just like Halo 2s ranking system was.

Well thank you for your service but why are you commenting if you didn’t play the ranking system? Please talk about what ya know

I did play it obviously which is why I know how the ranking system worked. It also came out in 2004 and I was pretty young so I’m not exactly going to remember what rank I was.

They do matter, its just your individual performance also is taken into account. If you loss a game you were expected to lose but overall played well you wont lose as much CSR as you would have normally which I think is a good system. You still lose/gain based on a win/loss because CSR is ultimately designed around the concept of ELO/MMR.

My point is that it clearly doesn’t work as intended. It was the same in halo 5 and I ended up breaking the ranking system. It would place me at diamond 3 like it’s suppose to but then when I got out of diamond I went straight to champion. That’s because of MMR. MMR shouldn’t exsist.

You realize Halo 2 also used a form of MMR with its skill based matchmaking right? It was just broken down to a 1-50 level instead of the brackets modern Halo uses, but the concept is exactly the same.

The problem with infinite is their MMR is carried over from social ranks which breaks the entire thing because social playlists are WILDLY different from ranked. Also a lot of players will play some matches of social to warm up before going into ranked which can drastically impact what their CSR is and as we have found out it can be abused by just intentionally playing bad in social to get easy matches in ranked.

Once they fix that problem and separate CSR from social I think the ranking system will be drastically better.

I understand that point of view of different variables from play types but there has to be a broader number of ranks for players to strive to sustain longevity or people will max out and not give a ****. That’s facts. We’ve seen it happen in ever game BUT halo 2. Come one now by your own omission you didn’t play it much. I have played all games and was the only one that had the player coming back

Halo 2 had the best ranking. I believe it was Gears of War that first used TrueSkill ranking, which you could never see your rank in game. This all fell within the whole “every kid gets a trophy if they participated” time. Then games moved onto a level system as the more you played the more you leveled up and it never dropped.

Thank you!! It’s ridiculous

Technically, Infinite has over 2500 ranks, if you look at your CSR number as your rank. Even after gaining Onyx, there are still over a thousand ranks to gain! Go get 'em, Spartan!

Technically you’re right. But realistically there is a lot more ways to incentivize playing by broadening the rank structure. Having tiers of a few areas is lazy and boring. That ain’t it chief.

Exactly, but it did work. It wasn’t great by any means but it did mean something. MMR affects ranked and social including bot bootcamp so you can effectively cheat your way to Oynx. It doesn’t make sense why they’d have a global MMR like that. It just doesn’t make sense.

I agree, and I imagine the mid season reset is because they are changing that design…At least I hope so. Once that is resolved I believe Infinites rating system is pretty good.

It was such an Obvious choice and they went with the Pub-G style ranks which are better suited for Battle Royale Games.

They could have 1-50 ranks and use that like an extra 50 Battle-pass slots with rewards for each and maybe an unlockable Emblem based on which rank you have.

I’m legit going back to Halo 2 and Halo 2:A, Halo CE PC, and Halo 3/4 cause their systems just work

Lmao I didn’t know it was a glob MMR including bots. Wow…
