It is a step back. And I could accept that 343 did it at the request of Microsoft, but it is insulting when they claim it was done to increase player customization. It was not done for player customization, it was done for money.
a better option while still giving money options would be to buy special colors or patterns or earn them through the battle pass instead of fixed armor coatings like we have. while giving players basic colors to start out with red, green, blue, orange etc.

Pay for patterns/camos and special colours like animated ones. But let us pick the 6 colours for each slot.
You should never charge for colors.
Just special ones… you get basic ones for free… I’m trying to give a compromise between the pay only option and the totally free option, while I’d prefer all armor customization be free…
