Just a friendly reminder: Hype can kill games.

Expectations get set high and when release date becomes yesterday, you’re sitting their with your imagination crushed. So instead of leading your people to the promise land, you should take heed that the only promise of life is a bitter death, when you’re blind to the truth.

Many games over the years have been worth their hype. Others suffered from the hype train literally having not breaks and crashing into the station. So to avoid that let’s just list off what we know, we’re getting in Halo 5G.

-New Weapons and maps along with changes to the old. I.E. new SMG and Covie Arena.
-Removal of AA’s and a heavier focus on player abilities.
-Varying Spartan Customization
-a VS story

These are the things that we know are going to be in the game and have every right to go full rage if they lack or were just flat out lies.

Now starts my list of things that have a high chance of being in the game.

-MP Sangheili
After three years of people pretty much warring over the Elites not being in Halo anymore, the MEGA thread and the new developments in Hunt The Truth Episode 10. It would be a large betrayal to not include them in H5G MP. Another thing that no one should be mad about if heads roll after, if this isn’t in the game.

-Human Enemies
A request that has gone on longer than the one for the return of the elites in MP. The only time in Halo where we are ever told to spill human blood is in ODST where the last police officer tries to kill you for helping him find the good Dr. You can kind of count Halo 2 when you’re the Arbiter searching for the icon or Halo 3 just as a marine is getting infected buuuuuuuuuuut no. Not really one to kill over but thinking of a way to shoehorn Covenant into Halo 5’s story makes me feel that 343i might be weak in the knees. The only way I can see Jul or Telcam’s groups getting involved violently is if those reps were their people and they believe that MC was out to kill them. Even then sending in an army wouldn’t be the optimal plan, more like a strike force.

-Assassinations
While in the BETA it looked like old assassination animations were being used. This could mean several things and one of those could be the removal of them. While i personally like assassinations since they are an awesome optional, flashy kill. Many people seem to hate this feature and from my experience it’s because they can’t tap the melee button.

-New and Old gamemodes
From Assault to Firefight, this is yet another feature that I wouldn’t mind seeing flayed 343i members for. Just like Elites the community has asked, screamed and force feed their feelings towards their favorite gamemodes.

If I missed anything for what might be in Halo 5G just place it below.

I think after E3 there might be a trickle of info, but no ARGs and no new trailers until the last few weeks before release. They’ll more or less go dark.
Thats my guess.

When Josh was asked what his favorite weapon in Halo 5 is:

> Currently it’s an unannounced weapon with two modes of fire.

Hopefully they’ll blame it on the anomalies.

There’s a difference between hype and excitement. Like James from IG/Funhaus said, “Excitement is when you generally have an idea of what’s going to be in the game. Hype is 'This is next big IP! You should be aware of this and it’s going be big!!”

Thats the difference there. There’s no hype around halo 5, just excitement. The word hype gets tossed around but that’s some new fad that has caught on recently.

I agree. Destiny is a perfectly good game in its own right but Bungie broke so many promises they didn’t know they could keep so that now it’s considered a massive let-down. I don’t want that to happen to Halo.

In other words, “Don’t make a fanbase a promise if you know you can’t keep it…”
But I agree with the sentiment. 343 has yet to promise anything that we haven’t already seen with our own eyes, other than 1080p. The stuff we see at E3 will also likely be completely confirmed stuff. So far, the claims ring solid.

Being 23 years old and playing games ever since I was a kid, it’s kind of hard for me to even get super hyped for games even if I really do like them.

The last two games that I can remember just being totally hyped for were Gears 3 and Mass Effect 3. Those games kind of marked an end of an era in my life though. As great as they were, I just can’t get as excited about games as I used to be able to. I remember getting an N64 one Christmas as a kid and then several years later my parents set up a little scavenger hunt for me and my brother’s Christmas present which turned out to be a Dreamcast. We were completely blown away that we could play arcade games like House of the Dead at home! I could finally see the whole game! I’ll never be able to replicate the pure excitement and wonder that I had for video games like I did back then.

Someone should invent video game hype Viagra for us gamers who have been around since nearly the beginning :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t get how people can get hyped at things that are unconfirmed. I just get hyped at the things that I’ve seen or at the game in general.

Im exited but not hype for halo 5, I enjoyed the beta very much and will be making a day 1 purchases. But If they made changes I dislike at e3 and don’t change or remove said things then I won’t get the game or at least further down the road.

According to many bitter halo fans who didn’t get the copy paste halo 3 they wanted to them halo 5 is already dead. Hell the franchise is dead to them. The only thing there hopeing for is for halo 5 to fail and to get every person at 343 fired because it’s that serious.

Well dont you know any change is a world wide sin?

I don’t think the Halo fans really need a speech like this right now…

The problem with Destiny was that it was made to look like a huge game and a revolutionary game. The gaming community in general killed Destiny with its overwhelming expectations. They saw the developer, watched gameplay, and made their overwhelming expectations. Any game that doesn’t live up to the huge expectations of the public will be considered trash.

And for the love of God, don’t preorder…

Funhaus!

Anyway, I somewhat agree with this guy.

343 is in a better position as far as not overhyping the game for one reason:

Peter Molyneaux doesn’t work for them!

For certain games (Halo, Fallout, Elder Scrolls) I surrender to the hype. I’m very good at managing disappointment. I hyped myself up for Destiny hardcore and after realizing that Destiny wasn’t my thing I simply shrugged it off and moved on.
I like to hype myself up for game franchises I love. Not only is it fun and makes me feel like a kid waiting for Christmas, but it also makes time go by slower. Like that old joke about the guy with only two years left to live moving in with his mother-in-law.

I can respect that and what AidXcommando said quoted. Certain games to deserve it, but i’d rather be safe than sorry. Atleast now with this post I have a good idea on how the Halo community feels in terms of excitement for H5G and not hype as pointed out above.
