In halo reachs third level “Nightfall”, jun gives 6 “high-velocity/armor piercing” rounds for his s2 sniper rifle and states that it can “take the hat off an elite at xx yards”. First, 6 is an operator that’s operating on a whole other level. He’s seen a lot of things; and I’m sure he’s seen sniper rifle ammo before an knows exactly what they are capable of. He would have had to qualify with it in basic, anyway. Second; the S2 fires ANTI-MATERIEL rounds–by definition I suppose they would technically be “high-velocity/armor-piercing”, but that’s like calling a sledgehammer a mallet. Super inaccurate description regardless. Next, I didn’t notice any discernable difference from the standard AM rounds…if there is a difference; 6 did have an initial increase in cartridge capacity, but that’s it. And finally that “and they ain’t cheap” comment irked me. First, they are Spartans, anything they requisition will be granted by HighCom without question. They could request a Havok tactical nuke and they wouldn’t bat an eye. Idk, just bored right now.

When I first played “Nightfall” back in 2010, I was disappointed by how they didn’t increase the damage of the Sniper Rifle, it was basically the same as a regular sniper rifle & a failed opportunity to have certain variants of a weapon have more damage than another variant of a weapon. It seems they’re going to do something like this in Halo 5 (Kelly’s Shotgun causes more damage than the average shotgun), which I am glad about.
I don’t think the “they ain’t cheap” meant that Jun purchased the ammo himself. Most likely, the UNSC purchased them & they cost more than the average bullet.
To my knowledge, there was not suppossed to be a difference. The comments were made to have something in the storyline and add to the “covert” feel of the mission.

You are correct. It is supposed to be a very secretive, behind-enemy-lines type level at first, and is a kickback to the start of Truth and Reconciliation in Halo:CE

Yeah, i never noticed a real difference in damage dealt.
Ah, snipers…
I think the rounds weren’t different to normal rounds and were just describing Juns specialised weapon. I do understand what u said about Juns coment on the cheapness of the rounds, but it didn’t bother me too much
