Juneteenth - there's a mis-step here. (It's not celebrating Juneteenth, that's good!)

I am so sorry, that sucks. 343i does need to get in gear. Badly.

Well that’s kinda’ it - they don’t. They’re not at risk of losing it because they were made BY Microsoft to make it. So they’re the only devs.

Oh so you got nothing to say to me after you marked my posts as bait?

Alrighty then.

Yo who marked them as bait I’ll :facepunch: square up

 it’s not that serious. It’s just hilarious to me. People like salty unggoy prove my point for me.

Oh I thought they quit the forums, I have them on permanent ignore.

That’s the incorrect assumption to make about me, lol. I’m glad I have you on ignore, nothing you say has value. Of course fascism is a political system.

You’re not even reading my stuff.

My issue with how the UNSC is fascist isn’t the fascism. It’s how 343i has written their stories and the tone that they have established in stark contrast with themselves and Bungie’s stories. Master Chief was a superman figure. He did good things and sought to do good things when he was able to. Instead of telling a complete story, 343i bloated the series by starting another fight. Halo 4 makes up a new Covenant army and retcons the Forerunners to not be humans. Halo: Infinite turned a Brute faction from Halo Wars 2 into a way more powerful Brute army with a vengeance. The UNSC now has two separate existential threats that justify why changing their system of government would be a bad idea and how making Spartans was good. (I want to mention but also ignore Halo 4’s "I pulled strings as an ancient space genius to make the humans do this to you, John.)

If 343i isn’t going to actually use the plot point that the UNSC is doing shady things then it’s extra baggage. It’s not even used as nuance. It just exists in the background. I think the central problem is that 343i is not interested in telling a complete story. They’ve restarted the story 3 separate times in each of their main Halo games. 343i already chose to not make Halo about fascism. That’s not a statement about fascism by anyone, that’s a critique about how the quality of writing is all over the place.

To go back around to how this is awkward: A lot of the Halo media is self-contained. This works when things connect but gets ugly when things don’t. There are unresolved stories littered around the whole series. One of those is the UNSC’s authoritarian regime.

I wouldn’t be surprised if 343 carried over a lot of legacy tools from the Bungie days.

Every developer on the planet reuses old tech for new pirposes. Bethesda is notorious for using Gamebyro for decades because the devs know it and its easy for them to use.

Where this doesnt work, is when new talent isnt being properly trained by old talent, causing things that can go wrong to go wrong. Assuming that 343 aren’t lying through their teeth (as they have no reason not to), this is an example of old tech being used improperly causing issues, like what happened here.

This is a further example of how badly 343’s hiring practices have damaged their development process. Issues like this should not be happening on a well-run ship.

On top of all their mishaps, now this blatant racism? This is a disgusting move from an employee or possibly multiple employees at 343, how tone-deaf are you guys? First, you mostly ignore the fanbase, then you make excuses and gaslight fans because you can’t deliver quality content that is a staple of all Halo games… I’m glad they were so quick to fix the problem, but still. I expected better from 343i, this is just another reason why I and many others have left Halo and will continue to do so.

  1. A bonobo is not a monkey

  2. Halo has used different names like this for unreleased dev stuff since Halo 3. People on here and Reddit acting like they’re racist because of this are clueless.

You’re the one who’s clueless. Bonobo is a type of monkey.

Just accept that what they did, regardless of intention, was highly inappropriate. So many contrarians up in their feels over an issue that isn’t affecting them whatsoever.

Just stay in your lane and quit telling people how to feel.

Oh trust me a lot of what you mentioned there – I have BEEF BEEF with, from a writing standpoint. I think Halo 4 is THE series’ lowest point by far. Halo 5 is a masterpiece by comparison, and Halo 5 isn’t even very okay.

The issue with this is that discriminators are everywhere, what’s important is squashing the environment that lets them breed and get out of hand.

343i are responsible—if I could just say sorry for every bad thing I do —- I’d probably do a lot more bad things!

Where is the apology?

As far as I am concerned there was no apology stated on the official Halo website (Halowaypoint).

Just on twitter…a social media platform mostly used by political and influence parties.

I don’t go to twitter to check for Halo news, I got to Halowaypoint for that.

Really dissapointing.

Not everyone who isn’t the same is an oppressor, saying otherwise makes you just as big of a problem as them.

I just don’t understand how or why it would default to that, and 343i doesn’t deserve any trust after all they’ve pulled.

Like someone else said, they could be trying to just save face for company’s sake and not the person’s, and likely the person responsible has already been let go, knowing how Microsoft and 343 operate with things like this.

It’s certainly a complex issue, and we don’t have all the evidence here to make the correct judgement, I yet to see an explanation of why it defaults to bonobo, and better yet, proof.

If 343 is saying it’s named after a tool then I wonder what the “moochers of reach” tool does lol

This is now the second time infinite has used an inappropriate name

Some people are looking for a reason to get offended.

The rest are looking to join a righteous bandwagon.
