June Event more likely for Infinite

First off, yes, I am aware July will feature Xbox Game Studios’ games and gameplay.

My reasons for believing Halo will be at the June event rather than the July event:

Each Inside Xbox runs for approximately 1 hour.
60 minutes/15 Studios is 4 minutes per game.

While that works for trailers, that is awfully short for gameplay.

I think Halo Infinite needs 10 minutes alone.

I think the following are likely in June to be announced alongside Halo Infinite but not all may come true, if any:

  • Series S - Release date OR price (not both) - Series X has gone Gold - Beta start date - Official gameplay from the first mission - Story reveal - Main antagonist reveal (Guess what? It is not Cortana!) Someone may need to link the twitter post that mentioned this. I forgot who said it. - 4 player split screen gameplay via campaign - 4 player split screen gameplay multiplayer - The new Forge Mode - Misc features such as game modes, UI, HUD, SFX, etc - Multiplayer gameplayThese things will be too much for a simple 4 minutes in July. Heck, even 8 minutes in a 2 hour show is way too short!

If Xbox wants Halo to succeed, it needs a ton of attention. Massive marketing. The game needs to have a standalone stream with other major announcements.

My opinion on the roadmap:
June: Halo and Xbox Series S reveal plus pricing OR release date of Series X and S. Not both price and release
July: All additional Xbox Game Studios’ Reveals and Gameplay plus Xbox Series X and S release date or price (whichever was not revealed in June)
August: preorders open for Series X and S
September: announcement Halo and other Xbox Game Studios’ games have gone gold and a few additional minor announcements from 3rd parties.
October: Beta for Halo Infinite finishing up. Final chance for Halo 5 players to reach Level 152 for bonuses in Infinite.
November: Halo, Xbox releases this month. Most likely on a Tuesday. I expect the Tuesday BEFORE Thanksgiving week in The United States. Meaning a release on the 17th of November.

Note:
I am American. So I do not know about the rest of the world. But the day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday. Everyone shops like crazy on this day. December is too late but October would make Holiday 2020 a false statement. It has to be in November. But before Black Friday so to make the major buying day in the US. It also helps when Cyber Monday follows the Monday after Black Friday.

Another note:
Week one of June is a possible reveal of the PS5 design. Week one of June is never a better time for all of this.

Final note:
Microsoft and Xbox have been very quiet about June. This hints at a major surprise or reveal that even now is not finalized.

While I’d love to see something Infinite related before July, it’s pretty much confirmed that Infinite won’t be featured until the July event. https://twitter.com/ske7ch/status/1258396397172224000?s=20

Lazy link for those who want it.

Or they just don’t have much to share about June. They wouldn’t make a very firm point about “Halo in July” if they were going to then say “Psyche! It’s actually June. Gotcha there didn’t we?”

Microsoft said they were revealing things differently in June so I think the June news will be something like a Xbox Wire article along with a few Youtube videos showing off Series S and the OS functionality for both systems. Then in July that’s when it’s all about games.

They also said Halo is coming to Xbox One. Then one year later said it also is coming to Series X. I said it would come as a launch title. But people provided the links to sy it won’t. Yet who was in fact correct? Just because a company says one thing does not mean it will happen. Look at Bungie. For a long time, they kept saying they are making a Halo Cartoon for kids. They finally said it was fake around 2010. It is called protecting asests and protecting IP from leaks. (Or in Bungie’s case, a complete joke) Every company does it. And yes, you can be right, Ske7ch could be telling the truth. But riddle me this: would a reveal in June or July make you more hyped? I would find one where it is unexpected makes me more hyped than if I know when and what to expect.

As I said, I can be wrong. But I have been told I was wrong and stupid before. Yet, I still managed to be correct.

That’s different though. Telling us that May is for 3rd party, and July is for 1st party isn’t “hiding information to protect assets”, that’s just telling us what they’re planning on doing plain and simple. Believing otherwise because of unrelated coincidences or “BUT WHAT IF THEY DO??!” thinking is what got so many people going into May’s event actually and fully expecting Halo when were outright told it wasn’t going to be that several times. You’re trying to see conspiracies where there aren’t any.

As for your ‘riddle’ - neither. I’d feel the same way regardless if it was June, July, or if they opted to wait 'till August even.

Your logic is predicated on the assumption that Microsoft is going to leave the standard length of time for an Inside Xbox largely unchanged.

This is highly unlikely given that we’re in historically unprecedented times and E3 was entirely cancelled. It’s highly probable, and I personally hope it’s true, that the big 1st party blowout in July will be longer than 1 hour.

Microsoft NEEDS for the July showcase to be impressive. Their marketing up to this point has been great. The Series X is a really powerful console focused on gaming and they’ve acquired numerous studios over the past few years.

HOWEVER, they still haven’t answered the fundamental question of why I would buy a Series X over a Playstation 5. This generation, Sony resoundingly beat Microsoft with AAA-caliber exclusive titles. Microsoft had no answer to God of War, or Spiderman, or Horizon, or the upcoming TLOU2 and Ghosts. We know those same studios are working on what will likely be fantastic titles for the PS5.

So why should I bother with a Series X/S? Microsoft still hasn’t answered that question. You can have all the megahertz and teraflops in the world, but it’s irrelevant without compelling exclusives.

The Xbox 3rd party “gameplay debut” from a few days ago was a bust. It was a bunch of sizzle reels and “in-game cinematics” when people showed up to see actual gameplay. There was hardly any at all. No, a bunch of disparate 3-second clips stitched together don’t count. Those tell me absolutely nothing about what actually playing the game (AKA gameplay) will be like.

Microsoft better show off 5-10 minutes of REAL gameplay for Infinite, Forza, Playground’s RPG, Obsidian, maybe The Initiative, etc. Sony showed off extended gameplay for TLOU2 and Ghosts at E3 2018 and neither of those have even released yet.

Infinite, the “flagship” launch title for the Series X, is a complete enigma. That’s not good. All we know is that it’s a sequel and has a new pilot character. And there’s still no mention of when the beta will even occur. What about all of the controversial enhanced movement mechanics of Halo 4/5? We still have zero idea and it’s likely that we won’t find out until they hopefully show something compelling in July. We’ve arguably learned more about the game from pictures of toys…

It’s Microsoft’s job to prove to consumers that its box is a better investment than Sony’s box. Fans already know why they should by a Playstation 5…sequels or new IPs from all the studios that put out amazing exclusive games this gen. We can’t say that about Microsoft so the July showcase better help move the needle a bit closer to Microsoft because as it currently stands, most of the hardcore gamers interested in compelling, narrative, single-player games are looking entirely at Sony.

Here are some reasons to buy an Xbox Series X over a PlayStation 5 already previously confirmed:

  • Backwards Compatibility from the past 4 generations of Xbox - All of Xbox One Accessories will work on the next gen console - Game Pass will be available on the next console at launch - All Xbox One Games will be forward compatible (I own over 200 games. I can play all of them on day one.) - Xbox has more crossplay compatible games than PlayStation - Xbox is offering a way for devs to opt in to allow games to be purchased on Xbox One or Xbox Series X and get the version on the other console for freeYes. You are right about Xbox’s past. But for me, PlayStation has shown me nothing to go off of other than their games. I don’t know what their console looks like. I don’t know what its its price is, I don’t know how well they can be prepared when it is time to launch. I don’t know how many of their IPs are actually going to have games ready for this Holiday. I don’t know if their console will allow me to play with my friends on Series X or Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. I don’t know if the games their IPs actually look or play well.

All I know is the console specs (Not as good as Series X) and their controller’s functionality and appearance. (A glorified Google Stadia Controller.)

I know nothing else about PlayStation.

I don’t know about likely, but if we are still doing 2020 launch then honestly we are running low on time to having a beta/flights that would be anything more than a glorified demo or stress test.

There just isn’t that much time before the game goes gold so I am holding out a small amount of hope that there will be some multiplayer gameplay reveal in June with the July being dedicated to campaign. Otherwise the only other thing I can think of is that the July event ends with some variation of: “And you can play the Infinite Beta… today.”

This. This is whats got me nervous. Why is Microsoft waiting until JULY to show off halo!?!? That leaves us 4 months max until the game comes out!(unless it launches in December which i very much doubt) we have seen nothing so far other than two horrible trailers IMO. I want game play! I don’t see why they don’t just show us the game in June. We have waited long enough. And to make matters worse its 343, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the game is in horrible shape and thats why they won’t show it off.

The game had to be scratched and restarted in 2018 due to feedback from people on here and other places. I think they knew what was originally being made was not going to cut it.

But agreed. Both with you and the person above. This game needs some kind of showing in June. At a minimum, Multiplayer in June. I can accept Campaign in July as gameplay split between the two months means a shorter need of time.

No. It cannot launch in December. Most people will have finished their Christmas Shopping by Cyber Monday. It wouldn’t sell.

A recent Twitter Post also shows they have something [hot] being created.
Whether that means coming real soon or in July, I do not know.

Notice the Tweet above the linked one also says we need a dedicated event. His response? “Love it!”

That almost can show it is possible and has a small likelihood of happening.

This beta WILL be only a server/weapon balance test.
There’s really no time to make any meaningful changes to the gameplay in just a few months.

> PlayStation has shown me nothing to go off of other than their games.

Thus the primary thing that people use to decide which console to invest in.

You listed a lot of pro-consumer, yet ancillary, reasons to buy a Series X. If Microsoft wants to gain serious market share back from Sony, it needs games. And games that can’t be played on a Playstation.

You haven’t seen as much from Sony about the PS5 up to this point because they don’t have to show as much. They don’t have anything to prove. They blew their competitor (Microsoft) out of the water this generation. Sony is in a privileged position.

Microsoft is the one that has to prove that they’re serious about making quality AAA-caliber titles. And presumably they hope to do that in July.

Honestly, I’m not really impressed with this whole “let’s show something this month, a other thing this month and so on” I’ve always thought reveals in July and August of any kind let it be in video games or otherwise is a terrible idea! People are out enjoying weather, on vacations and so.

Yes things might be different this year, but still. May/June, especially June, is the ideal time I think.

I think if Microsoft keep doing these “reveal events” people will get tired of it. Not to mention, I think people will be confused as to what are they showing now, I thought they showed x last week/month etc.

I wish Microsoft just had one big event and just showed/talked about it all.

And the crappie thing is, Xbox doesn’t really have “exclusives” anymore now that all there games are going to PC and in a lot of cases (if not all) it sounds they’ll launch the same day. So what’s the point in buying Xbox??

I’m actually HEAVILY thinking that I won’t bother with Xbox anymore because of this. All my friends are now Sony/Nintendo now as any Xbox game they want they will just buy it on PC. I actually had two friends immediately sell their Xboxes once Microsoft made the announcement that Halo games are now going to PC.

I love my PC, but I really hate Microsofts decision in this area. I really feel like they are shooting themselves in the foot here. To make matters worst, its not like Xbox console gamers are getting PC exclusives, so they’re getting the short end of the stick BIG TIME! It wouldn’t be as bad if say the game came out on Xbox first and then maybe a year later, it went to PC AND Xbox gamers got PC exclusives too.

To me, I just feel like there is less and less reason to buy Xbox. Which makes me sad really.
