June 4: Free-For-All rotates into Ranked

Hey all,

I wanted to make a post to call out this piece found in May’s Halo Community Update.

> - June 4: Free-For-All rotates into Ranked for June**We’ll be keeping a close eye on Free-For-All’s performance throughout June. If it does well, we may have it stick around for July. For you lone wolves out there, the best way to ensure its survival is to vote with your play time. Good luck out there!

I think it is a real shame not having any kind of Free-For-All playlist in Halo 5: Guardians. It is one of the only playlists that can function without a full population, and should always be present in my opinion. Given that Halo 5’s playlists are constantly being consolidated and shifted in order to adapt to its changing player base, the inclusion of FFA would allow a playlist that is able to function without a full lobby or high player base.

Take this for example: In Team Slayer the lobby size is 8. If for some reason you only had 7 people total online and queued up for Team Slayer at that time, you would not be able to form a fully lobby, as it would need to be 3v4, or not formed at all. Both outcomes are frustrating to players.

The current lobby size for FFA is 6 (a welcomed change reduced from 8 players.) If you for some reason only had 4 people online and queued for FFA, you could still form a lobby of 4 players and it would not be unfair. A little slower of a match probably, but not unfair.

I am happy to hear of its return, and I hope it is not a temporary one. If you love Free-For-All like I do, please play a few games during the month of June. Hopefully we can continue to play Halo 5 Free-For-All until at least the launch of Halo Infinite. If anything this is still all great news as it shows 343i’s response to our feedback for a missing FFA playlist.

I toataly agree I am mostly a solo queue player bc I’m e.g. and often time zones mean I find it hard to find matches

It is odd that it is not even listed and that this is a limited time playlist. I guess it just is not heavily populated at all so it makes sense on a maintenance mode game such as Halo 5.

I don’t think the solo population is that low. I think most people enjoy team based modes more than FFA and will solo queue instead.

As a person that’s not an FFA player, I’ll do my best to play this as much as possible. It DESERVES to be in the game, the fact it’s not permanent is pretty criminal considering the only other FFA mode is something that doesn’t play too much like a FFA, Infection. At least a social FFA playlist or something to give FFA something more if this doesn’t hold up.
