This has, for sure, already been discussed here before, but I’m lazy and didn’t want to search for a similar topic (so sue me lol)
Anyway, I was just wondering what ever happened to Jun? Last we saw, he was getting Dr. Halsey off Reach, and that’s that. He supposedly lived right? Or did he get Halsey to however way she got off Reach (I can’t remember how she got off Reach at all) and then maybe he stayed behind, thus getting killed in some heroic or back-assward crazy way?
If anyone knows anything at all please share it here, because this has bugged me for a long time, and with Halo 4 just around the corner I’d like to tie up this loose end.
He never got her off planet, he only get her to CASTLE Base. In the novel First Strike when the Spartan-II Red Team arrives at CASTLE Base Jun is not there so there is a lot of speculation as to where he went. Most think he died but Bungie and 343i have both said his fate is a mystery. I believe if he was to escape he would have just left with the last of the evacuees. Halsey had said that those who were their evacuated and she volunteered to stay behind. If Jun was to live that would be his best bet off IMO.

Hmmm Bungie AND 343i both said his fate is a mystery? Methinks I smell some kind of appearance in the new trilogy, maybe as a very talkative, unnamed Spartan IV?

Yet he was ordered to do whatever it takes to protect Halsey, would he abandon her?

If there was someone there who out ranked himself as well as Carter then yes I’m sure. Besides that she volunteered to stay behind in order to destroy the base and presumably herself considering the circumstances.

Still, even though she was going to blow up the base, and likely herself, it would take time. Even though Fistful of Arrows isn’t canon, I do think that is the likely route Jun would’ve taken, holding out and buying as much time as he could.

I don’t have a problem with him dying in battle but if he was dead they could just say so. It would be so easy. “He died ensuring Halsey lived.” Instead they chose to leave it open. Who knows, maybe there was only enough room on the Pelican and he had been wounded so she made them take him or something? There are many possibilities which might be why they left it open. We can use our imaginations. Or maybe he will be a Spartan-IV. Who knows.
Its not 343i official cannon, but since they have yet to clarify what happened… I accept the events that took place in the free comic A Fistful of Arrows as the cannon explanation for Jun.
Jun might not be confirmed dead but realistically he is. It would be ridiculous for him not to be. Before I get comments saying “But Bungie said he survived blah blah…”, I’m aware of that. Jun did in fact survive Reach’s story, as in the campaign. However, that does not automatically mean that he survived the battle of Reach altogether. In fact there is no reason to think he did. Let’s look at the facts:
Jun is not present in CASTLE base when Blue Team rescue Halsey, so clearly he didn’t escape with them. Keep in mind they were the only way off the planet at that time.
The Aszod shipyard was the last evacuation point on the continent. By the time the Autumn (which he wasn’t on) left it was completely overrun, the Autumn being the last ship to leave. So he didn’t escape that way.
So based on some simple deductive reasoning it’s pretty obvious that Jun didn’t make it off Reach. Now, for those of you who are going to say “maybe he got in a pelican/frigate etc. etc.”, fair enough, maybe he did. But between him and safety was the largest Covenant fleet ever seen, he would have been destroyed the instant he was sighted.
Jun survived Reach the game, he didn’t survive Reach the battle.
His fate was obviously deliberately left open ended. He could have just gone to ground after dropping off halsey. Flown into the wilderness and sat out the glassing.
Bungie and 343 just want to confuse you guys. Jun is obviously Master Chief. Jun sounds like John and he practiced his American accent so he sounds different.

Oh…yeah, I forgot. Um new hint: He has a way with the ladies in the game.(Why can’t I be like him. OOPS gave too much away)

Your forgetting the evacuation of Castle Base which happened after Halsey and Jun arrived, as mentioned earlier he could have left then

Ok fine the other Noble is Jorge. If you remember how he “died”, it was from a manual detenation of the slipspace bomb. Of course the bomb blew up the middle section of the corvet but it was a SLIPSPACE POTRAL HE MADE RIGHT. So if had good knowledge of what he was doing, he first made a portal and then an exit/ endpoint. So after he travels to the cooridinates he made at first, then he could still be alive when he exits slipspace.

What evacuation?

In First Strike Dr. Halsey said that those within CASTLE Base had evacuated and she volunteered to stay behind in order to destroy the base. I would also point out that the line from the game was,
“The ship-breaking yard in Aszod. The only off-planet extraction point left on this continent.”
Aszod was the last one on that continent, not the entire Planet.
