Jump pack, not Jet pack

(Credit for the inspiration of this thread goes to Tyrant 9, he posted with an idea for a jump pack, but these are kind of my ideas on how it could work)

So, many people agree that although the jet pack is a cool idea, and is awesome for customs, it can be a map breaker. No matter how you design the map, I can fly all the way to the top level, or all the way down. One of the best advantages you can have is a height advantage, and jet pack makes this obsolete. Therefore I wanted to make a thread discussing the idea for a jump pack, or how the jet pack could be nerfed.

Now, I thought for a while, that it could be like a boost upward. That quickly reaches a higher altitude in one boost, and doesn’t allow hovering. However, after consideration, I decided to think of it more like a double jump. If a ledge is too high, I can jump, then at my highest point, use the AA to boost a little bit higher. This would allow for someone to get to a higher point of the map, while not allowing them to be at the highest point on the map. So rather then flying 50 feet into the air and hovering there, I can only really jump up 20 feet or so.

Another way would be a much more nerfed version of the jetpack they had at the PAX build. If someone can fly, they should move slowly, not be able to aim, and not be able to get to as high of an altitude. Imagine in Reach (this is an example, I doubt any of these speeds or distances are correct) I could fly up 50 feet in 3 seconds and hover there for 2 firing DMR down upon my foes. If it were nerfed to my standards, you could get up to 35 feet in 4 seconds and hover for 1, while having extreme shake on your primary weapon.

Do you guys have ideas on the jump pack, or another way the jet pack could be nerfed? Post what you think.

EDIT: The deed has been done

The jump pack was in halo 3 bro.

“Jump pack” sounds stupid.

Yes, I don’t want to take credit for an idea I didn’t invent.

Jump Jet not Jump Pack

like the jump pack from warhammer 40k space marine without the jump attack

This is essentially how it works. Very little amount of time it can be used.

I haven’t played it, but if by that you mean like a boost after you jump, then yes.

I thought the Jet Pack should function like the ones that Brutes use. Once you take off, you cannot change your direction/momentum, but you can alter vertical height (very slowly). Unlike the Brute one, this would not let you get really high altitude, and it would only triple your jump height with max use. This would encourage the Jet Packers to already possess a high point and take off from it instead of from anywhere. Furthermore, they cannot shoot once Jet Pack is engaged until they land.

It’s essentialy a double jump, it works very well.

Ya, I saw that, I was thinking a little less than that though.

Ya, that would work, I think it would be good if you could jump first though, the Brutes in 3 just took off from the ground.

alright i was thinking of multiplayer not campaign.

I understand now, some people should just clarify what they
mean in halo 3 because it wasnt online.

Ya, I probably shouldn’t have called it a jump pack, because the idea (at least the double jump one) isn’t really like the brutes in 3.
