Jump height too low. Every jump requires clamber.

I think my biggest complaint is due to jump height, map design, clamber.

I played Halo 3 doubles before Spartan Level Bots went live. Upon coming back into infinite something dawned on me. The jump height is trash. Even getting onto a basic crate required a clamber. Now look at a lot of the map traversal jumps. From yard to plasma grenade spawns. The ledges in the live fire base. Going from OS to the top of turbine on Recharge. Going from bottom market to rockets. All of these jumps NEED clamber at the current jump height. This means I can’t shoot, or even just scan the environment, and jump sideways/backwards to parts of the map. It seemed like nearly EVERY vertical map traversal path required you to LOOK at the ledge in order to get there. Why? Why is this seen as an improvement?

I think if they upped the jump height it would alleviate a lot of this. I am ok with some jumps needing clamber. I also LIKE clamber itself. I like that it is somewhat of a crutch/forgiveness aspect for missing a jump. I just hate how every jump in this game seems to require it.

Because white men can’t jump?

I actually have to disagree. Not every jump requires clamber but I think there’s a good balance right now. Jump height can be changed probably in custom games and custom playlist. Look at Halo 5 and Halo reach and Halo 4 you can actually change the gravity making it to where your jump height was different and there were playlists that had that. The game’s got to change a little bit just not that much. Right now it feels like everything can be accessible on the map.

By increasing the default jump height that accessibility stays. It just gives you more freedom of movement. Its so much more fluid when you don’t need to rely on clamber.

I actually think its well balanced as well. Some location dont require climb but require the biggest jump you can do… while other areas use the climb function as an intentional slowdown. I dont think every spot that requires jump was designed to require climb because thats not true

did you deactivate auto-clamber? i deactivated it early on in the flight, so i could remember it wrong, but i also had the feeling the spartan clambered, when it wasn’t necessary, until i turned it off, then it was better.

that being said. i’d also prefer much more, if the movement/shooting wasn’t interrupted by an animation

Did anyone test whether or not a slight tap makes you jump lower and/or have faster gravity than holding jump?

Also, are Gandhi Hopping and/or Strongsiding in? How extreme is the head bobbing?

Did you turn off step jump? I felt like it chose to jump not enough making me clamber when I could make it normally.

It was quite balanced, especially in most of their maps.

Disagree. Most places require a well timed crouch jump when sprinting.

I’m not sure about Gandhi Hopping but I believe Strongsiding still works. I did it a lot especially on bazaar with those long sightlines and I survived every time I strongsided but I’d love to hear other people’s opinions on this.

Strongly disagree with regards to Livefire. Agree with Recharge. Not sure about Bazaar.

I never ran into issues flying around the map, clambering and just stud jumping myself where I wanted to go. Definitely at a sweet spot for me and enjoyed it.

Actually seen everyone’s comments about this I feel we are sort of divided on this. Personally I feel it’s good as is and makes you use clamber however there are other ways to get up to where you want to be without using clamber at least on the three maps we played on. I’m sure other maps will have it to where no clamber needed at all. But there is a world for both our ideals.

Hello guys,
I think it would be easier to expose a survey on this discussion, so as to understand what the insiders think of this text; every now and then I had some difficulties in some points of the map with regard to the jump; but perhaps not too little practical, the survey would give us a clearer vision of what we have evaluated and what each insider thinks

So were you able to still get on certain areas without clambering? Bedsides the flight I haven’t played Halo in a while but I feel like the second jump directly after the first feel off.

Also the fact that spring jump’s gone…

you just dont know the movement mechanism of halo5 or infinite, jump height needs the speed. so sprint to get a high speed, hit crouch to slide, then crouch jump to get a higher position.

I agree. I think most jumps on maps should give you the option to either crouch jump or use clamber. Recharge had the worst jumps. You have to use clamber in a lot of jumps on recharge. Recharge is such a vertical map and it caters to clamber. Especially the jump from OS to top mid on recharge. That jump should have another crate there or some way to crouch jump. It’s too important of a jump and it is a major jump where clamber shouldn’t be forced.

Sprint/slide/clamber takes away from fluidity of movement and detaches the player from the overall sandbox. It’s not a speed thing as I see it, it’s more of a freedom of movement thing. Without sprint/slide/clamber I can run. jump, climb all at full speed while engaging my enemy. Whereas 343 make you choose if you want to either run, climb or shoot. It gives the illusion of more skill as people think there’s more choice, but in fact it takes choice away because you can only do one thing at a time rather than everything.

A good common ground we could find for 343 to add to the game, “classic” playlist. With Halo 3 style run speed, jump height and no sprint/slide.clamber. I think this could please both sides of the argument.
