Halo has had many different skins in the past, we could play as Elites in Halo 2 and in Halo 3 we could even customize them. Then in Reach in Invasion they weren’t just cosmetically different it was actually like playing a different species which I thought was pretty neat. Anyways, in Halo 4 they added Flood skins to, well, Flood and that was something pretty cool that I always wanted, although I wish the skins were more like traditional Flood forms.
So my idea for Halo 5 is to have a different skin for the Juggernaut in that game type. In Halo: Reach the Jugg was forced to wield the Gravity Hammer which got me thinking, what if the Juggernaut player model was an actual Brute? He could be easily distinguished and it could provide a new, fun experience. Instead of having an overshield he could just have a lot of health and tons of damage resistance. He could also have a “charge” ability like in the campaign to provide him with more tools at his disposal.
BRUTE SMASH!!!
I believe this could be pretty cool, although a classic Juggernaut variant should be included as well, just for the people who play customs and make unique game types.
Thoughts?
So what you’re implying is that the appearance conversion is instant.
In flood, we die, then we respawn with the cool flood look.
In Jugg, we become the jug, and immediately, our appearance changes drastically.

Well, there could be an overshield-like effect that would cover the player for a second or two and afterwards they would be converted to a Brute model. I’m envisioning it to be a smooth transition, not clumsy or awkward.

Lighten up; it’s a video game, who cares. The idea seems awesome to me. Anyways if you really wanted it to be realistic in Flood your corpse would mutate in front of you, not to mention that it would actually have an infection form, etc. etc.
@OP great idea!

Thanks! I remember around the Halo 2 days on the forums people were talking about playable Brutes, but the idea just didn’t seem to fit anywhere or make much sense at the time. I think now it seems plausible and I could definitely see people getting a kick out of playing a Brute in Juggernaut.

Glad to see I’m not the only one with this idea. I think it would be really cool to be a Brute Chieftain (Halo 3 version please). This would obviously make you more resilient, but also immune to the kill shortcuts, like plasma grenades (bounce off of Chieftain armor), headshots (headdress prevents this), and maybe even disable Assassinations for it.
I feel that this could become its own gametype, where players are given a period of time to be the Chieftain, armed with the Invincibility as an Armor Ability that has an extremely long reload time, but you can control how much you use at one time (similar to Active Camo). Your objective is to kill as many players as possible before you are killed or time runs out, so its basically an inverted Flood/Infection gametype.
When you die or time runs out, it starts a new round (like in Flood) and a different player is selected to be the Chieftain for the next round. After all players have had their round as a Chieftain, the winner is determined by kills as the Chieftain + extra points for killing Chieftains.

I’m not getting after the OP for anything, I’m just thinking on the appearance. The idea has merit.
Although multiplayer is canon, what happens in multiplayer isn’t canon.
On topic (and one of those few times I get this interested): Hellz yeah!!!
I’m in favor of OP’s idea. A Brute form would be pretty intense in Juggernaut.

You’re absolutely right. They have yet to give a viable explanation to the Flood gametype, nor do people really care for them to do so. The same could certainly be said for such a similar “fleshing out” of another of Halo’s gametypes, especially one such as this.

To train Spartans-IVs to face Flood infected spartans and if they can face spartan combat forms they should be fine against marine or elite forms

Granted, the inconsistency of not having an infection form protruding from the chest, the fact that we have never encountered Flood that look like that (maybe its a pure Flood strain?), and the fact that the Flood in multiplayer don’t have shields, it doesn’t seem like a good training exercise… I would say the reasoning for the way they interpreted the Flood was to maintain the same hitboxes for gameplay purposes.
That aside, there’s no reason not to have a training simulation for taking down a Brute Chieftain. That would be something equally as likely/unlikely for the Spartan-IVs to encounter.
I want to see this happen.
> I want to see this happen.
Yeah, it would be really awesome.
It could be cool for machinima as well.
I like this idea! It’d be cool to play as a Chieftain. Swinging that gravity hammer, sending my foes flying off into the distance… sounds awesome!
But yeah, how would the transition go? Your idea of that overshield effect sounds good.

If killing the Juggernaut ended the round, with the next round having his killer as the new Chieftain, there would be no need for any awkward transitions. It would work similarly to Flood (you don’t see anyone actually becoming the Flood, only respawning as it).

Well, the overshield effect could be opaque (non-transparent) then your character would transform into a Brute in a few seconds. In first person your hands would disappear and then reappear as big ape hands and it would say “You are now the Chieftan!” and you would make a grunting noise upon becoming a Brute to signal the transformation is complete.
GHOST of MA1NE has an interesting idea too. I’m up for all suggestions, I think this could be a real killer game type that people would get excited over and draw in a lot of players.
I agree. I think this would be an awesome inclusion to the Juggernaut gametype.
…Ha ha, for some reason all I can imagine is a Brute Chieftain smashing spartans to the ‘Brutes’ theme from Halo 3.

Yeah, 343i introduced, “Ambient music” in Halo 4 MP, maybe they could do something like that for this game mode? I wouldn’t want it to be too loud and overpowering so you wouldn’t be able to hear your surroundings, but if it was mixed properly I think it could add a lot of tension and really immerse the player.
